Lyrics:
Lay your hands into my head, I've been rude
I don't care what you do
So much heart is not enough, I've seen few
Who treat me like you do
My foolish friend
Don't try to live my life
Upon this weary line
My foolish friend
Don't tell me if I'm right
Teenage tears the saving grace of this fool
But no one's watching you
Save this mirror for your face where there are two
No matter what you choose
My foolish friend
Don't try to live my life
Upon this weary line
My foolish friend
Don't tell me if I'm right
When my chameleon mouth
Is already studded
My foolish friend
Don't try to live my life
Upon this weary line
My foolish friend
Don't try to live my life
Mark Hollis, RIP. What a smile. What a performer. Most importantly, what a father. Why do the good ones always die too soon?
БОГ ИХ ЗАБИРАЕТ К СЕБЕ ПОБЛИЖЕ
Excellent thought.
They had such a unique sound. You can hardly compare them to other bands of the New Romantic scene. Their songs are instantly recognizable whilst having complex harmony. Each album is a masterpiece. I hope that generations to come will not sleep on their music.
Who in 2024?
Thank you Talk Talk, for me you will always be one of the best bands that have ever existed
Right here! What a great band they were.

Here, 80’s music is my favorite genre.
😊❤
I doubt there was a better produced band ...ever. The songs and vocals are magical but the fact that you can hear every instrument without them clashing or overpowering each other is what I love about these classic tracks ....soulful, tuneful, full of emotion ..they just grab you and never let go ...RIP Mark Hollis, truly an underrated singer from such an underrated band.
Lost treasure found... Talk talk 80s legends
SENSATIONAL!
R.i.p mark rest well
Carissimo Mark, quanto mi hai insegnato in questo anno e mezzo che conosco la tua grandissima anima e la tua musica! Mi hai dato e continui a darmi così tanto, nessuna persona intorno a me mi ha mai insegnato tanto.
Perfecto
After DM they are my 2nd best band of all time
I discovered this band more than 30 years ago. Because of the little known here in Chile, I lost sight of it for more than a decade. With the massification of the Internet I was able to listen to it again and they still seem wonderful to me.
I thought all there was aboutTalk Talk was "It's my life" but they are far beyond this song only. They are outstanding musicians and Mark Hollis a fantastic Singer!
ABSOLUTE PURE EXCELLENCE!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Muy lindo video muy inglés ke linda esas calles inglesas my amor mark
Além do Mark Hollis. Toda a banda Talk Talk é sensacional. Dificilmente existirá algo parecido. Eu amo demais
I really miiss you Mark

Top voice n poet of the 80s along with Fish of Marillion.... "when my chamelion mouth is already studded"
The world doesn't make songs like this any more cos, putting it simply, the bloody 90s happened, and then every ever worsening decade after that. And who'd have thought you could suck worse than the 90s? Well all that follows can, continues to do and forever will be so. Always room for disimprovement I always say.
I'm shure it's Alan wilder @ 1:30 !!!
The song is not about social injustice, this is from abandoned concept album "A Chameleon Man"

What's the story behind this music video ? Seems like a reference to the miner strikes in Engeland during the tatcher era,but beside that i can't come up with anything elss
Like talk talk listen to low moon
The child actor looks like Hollis.
my polish friend. The guy had a friend from Poland and he wrote a song for him. But for some strange reason he was shy to say it and he wrote in the title my foolish friend. Still in the song he says my polish friend. But why hide it? If you dedicate a song to your friend say it in the title and cut this foolish stuff. What's the use to say one thing and write an other? This way you dont honor your polish friend that you wrote a song for.
Peakey blinder song hay

It's really quite simple: the deeper I dig into Talk Talk's archives, the more I'm blown away by their musical genius. Lucky me
I will never never forget you, RIP Mark. 😢😢❤️❤️❤️
Me too. Great band. "It's my life" is only a little introduction.
10 years listen to Hollis and I just see this clip...thanks UA-cam!
So True, same here ❤️
Totally agree. Not sure why I didn't appreciate their genius back in the day
RIP Mark Hollis. This song is hauntingly beautiful. You will be missed. 🌹

June 15, 2024 age 70 still loving Mark Hollis songs, songwriting abilities. R.I.P. my friend. You left us far too young!
I’ve recently just discovered talk talk. I’ve always known “it’s my life “ and “ life what you make it” we are two of my favourite 80s songs, but what I didn’t realize is how unbelievably Great their discography is. I start listen to other songs 4 months ago and I haven’t stopped..
Im just about to , its gonna be epic im sure
Hi I recommend an indie song called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix
@@redskies4530 spammer.
Yeah their lesser known more obscure songs are hidden gems
I've known them for months too.
I really like them are 3 first albums. Little by little I will continue advancing in their discography, with the change that they experienced later in their style of music.
Never got the full recognition they deserve, cracking band, lucky enough to see them in Italy many years ago. RIP Mark, pure class.
That voice and that face. God, Mark was adorable and what a voice... God speed, Mark. Thank you for keeping a suicidal kid from killing herself. You’re still keeping me alive thirty years later.
Such a powerful words...rest in peace dear artist 😔😔😔
without words, at the age of 45 I met this wonderful band! I was a rocker for 13 years and always saw this band in the record store, but had never paraded to listen to the band. I just met this pearl of sound!!! has helped me a lot against depression. grateful talk talk!!

Saw them play in Hannover around 1985, touring with their It's My Life album. Great concert. Perhaps the best concert I ever saw. Warm-up band didn't show up, so the boys came out at the beginning of the concert when the warm-up band was supposed to play and told the audience that they were sorry about the warm up band, but would it be okay if they just played a longer set... I just remember Mark coming out with long hair covering his face and a pair of dark sunglasses, singing those long drawn out notes which he did best, and wondering where the new wave image from their previous All you wanna do is Talk Talk video had gone. Then the long keyboard intro on Such a Shame with all of the re-historic animal sounds played at volume 10 throbbing out before the skidding sound brought keyboard back down to a simple drum beat and Hollis bellowing out the opening with the line "Such a Shame". When it's happening in front of you, sometimes you don't even know how great it is until it's far into the past...
OMG, you are so lucky😱🙏 I 've loved them from beginning, always will❤️💎
man, I envy you!
Thanks for describing your experience.
Też zazdroszczę 🙂
Wish I’d got to see them 😞
No airs, no graces, just people enjoying themselves while making music, unlike 2 days prima donnas
Talk Talk should be in Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame.
I think they deserve better than that.
Mark would never have wanted that. Talk talk and Mark were incredible, and his voice was mesmerizing. Mark was a very private person and even after we lost him, it was a very quiet moment. The best we can do is look back at what he gave us. Sing with the Angels Mark. RIP🙏
@Lisa Surlie I know what you mean Lisa, they should be in there easily. I don't see that's what mark or the others would want to happen. Some of them that are there are dreadful. Mark would not want to be associated with that. If it ever did happen, I don't see it being accepted by them.
I totally agree!!!!!
They are/were beyond Rock n’ Roll! A glimpse of the Divine! Something very special that we have been blessed to witness.
When you and the boys get fired from the factory, the only logical thing to do next is walk around the town sadly and sing about your problems
Hi from Scotland a massive talk talk fan God bless you Mark you had a beautiful soul a beautiful heart and they both showed in your beautiful music you will never ever be forgotten RIP Mark
Really one rare unique soul penetrating voice, along with Fish of Marillion. These two were probably the best voices and poets of tge 80s.
You mention Fish, and i agree that he had a poetic approach lyrically. As for his vocal abilities, i have to disagree with you, as his replacement Steve Hogarth has a far superior voice with an emotional range well beyond that of Mr Derick Dick!
You right!

Did not leave his house? Wow! Who bought the groceries? His family or friends? Strange but he had the right to live his life his way so it was his choice. I appreciate the music he left behind!
Thanks for the insight anyway. Take care!

Every time you take a dip into the catalogue of Talk Talk you find something surprising.. You also begin to realise in the grand scheme of things how lost they were in an underrated sense, and how much more we might have had from them. RIP Mark.
very well said and so so true
An outstanding band band, even their early stuff had so much substance!!! Criminally underrated. The last three albums were pure genius
Love the 80s music and love the Talk Talk sound. A while back, one of our most favorite songs was It's My Life, and up to this day, it still is. But then I had an album and listened to it all the time, great music and great sound, this song included. Amazing and timeless.
I wonder how we ever got through that depressive time... at least we could sing and shout out everything while dancing. Today's kids are not allowed to do anything anymore... they can't go anywhere anymore, everything is totally supervised and tackled...
This video always reminds me of an old job, standing there all day on a fly press. God your feet would be killing you by the end of the day.
I have always loved and been fascinated by this man’s vocals and I don’t understand at times what he is singing about, but I will use the words of John Lennon when he was talking about Bob Dylan he said, it doesn’t matter what he’s singing about,it’s how he sings it, which really is absolutely fantastic, but I have to say I am delving into this man’s work so much and I am unprepared for this, what this beautiful mind blowing gentleman is doing to me at this moment, I cannot take it in, I am reduced to tears,His voice, is delivery of notes, his music, his key changes, this man was a total genius 👏👏👏👏🌹🏴🏴🏴🏴
And i will use you, who uses the John Lennon's words ! A very good point !,
Mark could have been a film star. This portrayal always makes me teary.
i say he wouldnt. acting isnt creating Music he would say
Same here. He did a PERFECT job.
He has a very distinct and memorable look.

The song was written by Hollis and Brenner but finally recorded with Phil Ramocon (appears in the video as the black guy in the factory) who was intended to become the new keyboard player. The song was planned to be lead singel for LP "A Chameleon Hour" which was never released because Hollis met Tim Friese-Greene and Ramocon was pushed aside although he continued as a session and tour musician.
Things happen in a rare way
I first heard this around 1980 while checking out an old Marine Corps radio set tuned to Noumea Fiji shortwave broadcast station. The song absolutely knocked me out then and it still does in 2024.
So many bands I would loved to have seen in their prime and these are right up there. Absolutely amazing band. Get me a time machine!
2019 STILL AMAZING ❤️

In the 1980's, I don't know why other bands even came out of their homes. Talk Talk had NO competition 🎉

We need your help in Italy come to the square in Rome tomorrow and sing for us for the cause of the whole world it is a request for help to stop a dictatorship that wants to dominate in our democratic country
Talk Talk were never seen as part of the New Romantic scene, but they were the definition of the New Romantics... pure class.. the songs are relevant today, but they were more heart wrenching during the 80's when the youth of the time really suffered
great comment
just love that bass line and synths, and Mark's vox is amazing, probably one of the best bands ever many thanks
Everything about this band is just amazing. Their bass lines, drumming, vocals, and even the aesthetics in their videos are all beautiful. I'm glad this band was able to leave this piece of art behind. Not one album that I have listened to has disappointed me. Thanks, Mark and Talk Talk

Boy, the 80's bands were far more serious then they seem at the first ear-glance.

Mark Hollis' height was supposedly 5 feet 9 (Google) but he looks taller than that in this video. I'd say 6 foot.

Recently heard and became a massive fan of Mark Hollis and Talk Talk. I wonder why I never heard of them before. Such an underrated band.
Same, just ordered few albums from ebay. I noticed band when i was teen, but now i understand Mark Hollis is genius
They initially got big on the new wave and new romantic movements, before intentionally getting very avant-garde and anti-radio with their music. Mark Hollis didn't care about mainstream appeal. He was in it for the art of songwriting and making great albums. The trilogy of Colour of Spring, Spirit of Eden, and Laughing Stock is one of the greatest transformation periods of any musical group. They became more than just a pop band. They became a truly unique, singular band.
This band has an otherworldly sound to them.
Truly
my top 3 of all times.
There is no digging required, the brilliance of this band hits you like a sledge hammer
