Played it near 8 hours straight with 3 random guys and we all loved it.
All have it with gamepass... hope it improves. Updates. After every mission our party is disconnected on Xbox.
Game is laggy. Merchant is even laggy.
A map would be nice.
I wouldn't have bought it and probably will not play solo at all.
Was It necessary to show the final boss of the game whitout any spoiler alert?
I also have this on Xbox Game Pass and I think it’s just fine on that service. Definitely wouldn’t pay $40 for it but it’s a solid game if you have it on Game Pass and absolutely worth a play through.

I hate when they make bad games involving iconic characters. If you want to use such legendary characters in your game then it should be on point.

This game isn't one of those. Maybe you're just too picky. Many UA-camrs are I understand where they're coming from, however they're not really that warranted as well.
They would run up to you and wait for 5 seconds coz they had to use dash to reach you. They're just waiting for their turn

It boggles my mind that when playing single player the other characters aren't controlled by bots. That would make solo play much more viable. Have AI bots control the other characters and let you swap characters
I played through this game with my older brother, we both read all of the Drizzt books (all 40 of them yes including Cadderly) and although this COULD be a good game, there was always something letting us down; whether it was random disconnections an hour into a mission, extremely laggy and buggy hit detection, or down right unexplainable missing lore pieces and enemies spawned under the map. I’m sorry, I love the Companions, but this game is a disservice to them in terms of sheer ease to play, lore accuracy, and content as a whole.
Yeah that's why they took Baldur's Gate off the title just called it dark Alliance it can do nothing but hurt the brand

I've been wanting to play this for a while. I'm happy to be playing it now and glad they released what they did. Next 2 planned updates seem to address my only issues. I can't believe how many dudes with beards are on the rag right now.
I agree it could have used a few more months. However the level design and cut scenes are some of the best I've ever seen. The combat is fun enough. They just need to rework the ai and add more levels and some more classes and the game would be a certified banger.
Also should not I played via gamepass so it didn't cost me. Which affects my opinion, if I had spent 60$ is be annoyed by the bad ai.
@@tw00zy61 it isn’t man, people like you wouldn’t push developers for a solid launch. The gameplay? Not bad, world design? Not bad. Even the characters? Not bad. What’s bad is the networking issue, the cross gen issue on PlayStation.
i imagined a Dark Alliance 3-kinda game with "next gen" gfx, nice physics and at least as interesting as the old ones gameplay and insted we get this......?!

Already had pretty low expectations for this game, just wanted to beat stuff up with my D&D friends for a couple months. I don't hate the game so far but it's definitely undercooked.

its actually quite good and fun it has a few issues but looks amazing on series x on a 4k screen. just lazy time poor pc and PlayStation stans reviewing multiplats that started the whining online and nobodies got an original thought their head so thay just bleat out the same shit for clout and likes. enjoy it its fun with friends.

"No one's playing this game to get a good story" I think this is a pretty disingenuous assessment. I think tons of people playing a game that is based on things brought to life in novels would be expecting at least a decent narrative. I know I was expecting a decent story, and finding out it doesn't have one is a bummer and not something I can really just ignore like that. At the very least, hand waving away any criticism of the story under "you shouldn't even be expecting a good story" is lazy and lame. The previous dark alliance games had perfectly good stories, why not this one?

why do people have this idea that making games is easy? You clearly have no idea what goes into developing a game from start to finish. You could be a veteran of industry and still struggle every day for years and years.

You clearly have no idea what constitutes a well oiled and functional company. You could be a brand new business entrepreneur and still have a better production time line than these older companies.
Point is the consumer shouldn't be criticized for expecting a functioning and decent product that's sold as finished. This game isn't being put out as Early Access after all. People have all the right in the world to not buy it because it's not finished.

@@linop2 Unfortunately these companies are managed not by developers, and rarely even by people with concerns for a good product, but rather a board of executives that influence developer choices such as the release window and budget. If you need more time on development you're more than likely screwed as the board wants their money now (especially off of pre-order sales) and would rather release a buggy product than put off their millions. These people are only in it for the financial gain. They do not care about a 'well managed company' or 'releasing finished products'.

I totally agree. It seems like 9 games out of 10 come out rough or unfinished these days. It's a shame, really. Let's hope that the devs don't let this game sink. I was really hyped for it, having read the Crystal Shard and all when I was young.

After playing it so long yesterday, I wouldn’t expect you to do a long in depth review. Thanks for your opinion on the game. After watching you play for so long yesterday (minus the kasino problem) I was already at the same opinion.
Playing it for 'free' on Game Pass Ultimate. It makes me happy to play a game as Drizzt but agree on all of the cons. Maybe a big patch will save it with further development or player feedback ala Biomutant. There are supposed to be 2 FREE DLCs coming but I wonder if sales number will impact that post launch support. It's sad we can't get a GOOD AAA licensed D&D game these days other than BG3 and that's not until 2022.
Yeah, before launch I had hoped that it would be successful enough to fuel some big expansion to the point of adding Thibbledorf Pwent, Jarlaxle, maybe Cordio Muffinhead, etc.
Now I just hope for some basic fixes to the game play mechanics to at least make it worth the money I spent on pre-ordering it!

I still love the dwarven architecture the way the lighting reflects off the polished granite and marble revealing the etched runes makes me happy. I love the characters. The AI was ....well we've all seen the AI, so I'll leave it at that. I'm hoping the 15Gb Day One patch addresses the AI and that poor old Granny Dragon with Parkinson's.

I remember when I was underleveled the first time I beat the dragon and was completely unfit for that first encounter at the bottom of the pit
I was trying to play this on pc through xbox game pass and I could never get through a dungeon without the game lagging out. I tried so many different settings and cant get this game to run...suck a shame!

Hard to say because this game overall regardless of 3rd person or isomeric is still very different from to one ones in the past. The company did have plans on doing an isometric one at first though, and the little gameplay we got to see looked pretty sweet. And yea, even in its current form it can be fun with friends, but better to wait for some patches.
Well mate this is how I feel about super buggy very much with the traps and having other in with me they would do more damage to me then the monster and I did come to play for the story and loot hopefully they will fix the game
You could always read the books, I hear they are good in the story department.

Wolfheart, did you play the dungeons in the first level or did you try the upper level difficultyfor the dungeons (for the IA problem). Its possible the Ai is more active in harder mode.

The jittery stuff has happened to me in EVERY SINGLE boss fight so far. -_- We're also experiencing a glitch where whenever you die on a boss, the fight breaks more and more, which has led us to having two fights that became literally unwinnable after a couple deaths. And by unwinnable, I mean stuff like 'most of the fight played out while we were still on the loading screen'.
We actually DID win it, by eventually knocking the boss through the level by pure chance in a few hits (it was the second boss, we made him stumble into that battering ram thing and he just fell through it and despawned, causing us to win).
The beauty of this game is to get in there and smash it out, have competitions with your friends on who can get the most kills and how fast you can finish a run. Get that loot and min max your characters. A less serious approach does wonders for the experience.
Waste of time, you could literally just play somethign that isn't buggy and unfinished
So basically you have to make your own fun with your friends, because this game is not fun
I totally agree, I went in with zero expectations and found myself spending hours having fun with people grinding dungeons and even made a few friends to do dungeons with. Hope they manage to fix the bugs and add new dungeons soon!
Or you can play literally any other game, that might even be free, and have a better experience

I generally agree with your findings. It's not as terrible as a lot of people are saying, but it's definitely not a finished game and I hope the devs fix it.
From my experience with most cheap hack n slash games I never would expect a story focus haha That's just me though :-D
@@WolfheartFPS I'm a long time fan of the Drizzt series, specifically because they have terrific stories in addition to the cool action. And a big fan of the Baldur's Gate games. I wasn't expecting this to be a cheap hack 'n slash. I was expecting it to be the first time I'd get to play a modern-era quality video game with this set of characters who've been among my all-time fantasy favorites for about 20 years!

Most cheap hack n slash games aren't part of a big IP. You also should have had a pretty good idea about the story, considering the fact that you have 35 hours played and all. Just seems kinda lazy to ignore it and assume everyone would do the same, again, knowing full well it's D&D and has lore tied to it.
It's not perfect but I've been enjoying the hell outta co-op with my D&D group. If you notice all the negative reviews are from people that don't have a playgroup So keep that in mind
no, I have one and it's a bad game. if you like it cool but it's not great at all. I notice ppl who like D&D shit just seem to be giving it a p[ass because it's D&D related. so there's that too.
Playing with 2 buddies and having fun. Yes there are issues but we are getting around most and having a decent time. Fixes are definitely needed though
@@GamerSingularity it's bearable with friends/family. I agree. It's def a mess though. I wouldn't bother playing solo, personally. I actually tried it on gamepass after having a good idea what I'd be getting into and after a good day of playing with my peeps I uninstalled it. Oh well I guess.

I've been playing ps4 version of it I got the 39 $ one zero bugs on mine so far I know not mutch of story but lovd it so for I'm hopeful that this will open there small studio and limited people and I'm ok letting this be game to build on for a greater d&d for us
Also, forgot to mention, when my brother and I played, we would play at the recommended difficulty. And I played as Drzzt and a normal enemy would hit me once and take my health down like 90%. Makes zero sense.
Some enemies hit really hard, just don't get hit. Learn to block/parry and completely dash away when the enemy has a red outline. Keep an eye on the arrows around you showing where the enemies are, when it's a dark red they are about to attack you.
@@MAKExEVIL lol a normal ad shouldn't one shot. Also, most times, they dont highlight red, since the game is so buggy. The game is honestly too buggy and trash. They knew damn well how shitty it was when they playtested it.
@@MAKExEVIL id say this, but you haven’t played with a cross gen friend, you will get hit and the enemy’s animation hasn’t started. So no, it isn’t as simple as dodging or blocking, it’s mostly praying that the game doesn’t lag terrible
I like it so far. It’s like doing a dungeon run on a MMORPG with cool action combat. The AI could definitely be better. There needs to be a place for games like this. Not every game can be AAA God of War quality.
I will say this makes me really want a PS5/XBSX upgrade for Neverwinter. I’d be playing that game a ton if it didn’t look like a Xbox One launch game

@Glockjaw Such as? How ccould you make a statement like that without giving any examples? This game is a long cry away from a dumpster fire. Every issue is minor at best and it's something easily fixable. Honestly, the only thing that needs fixed is the slight delay during multiplayer and some mobs' AI needs improved. Not every mob in this game just stand there.

Everyone is quick to blame developers but seem to forget in most cases, there is a publisher forcing a game out before it's ready. In this case, it's Wizards of the Coast. If you want to blame anyone for this unpolished, seemingly lackluster mess... direct your negativity at the greedy publisher who didn't give the game the extra time it needed.
Even had they gotten more time and resources, this title is nothing like it should be. The story is made up nonsense and writes over Salvatore's work, which is unacceptable. Such a beloved IP should have been done right, and thats both the publisher and the devs that messed up big time. And besides, Larian has been given 4 years to finish their game. The content they put out, and were honest about it being unfinished from the get go, is phenomenal because Larian understands the importance to sticking to lore. I disagree with their rollout, but they prove that WotC is not some evil publisher that rushes titles out of development. Tuque is just bad.

@@hv5175 no, WotC is a company with a terrible track record with electronic media. They historically pick people/companies that can’t program their way out of a wet paper sack. Doesn’t matter if it’s in house or licensed. DnD Beyond is the only decent electronic thing to come from the WotC era.

Damn. I have an itch to play a multiplayer game with distinctive roles to play with strengths and weaknesses similar to D&D. Does anyone have anything to recommend? I've played Overwatch and most MMO's already but I'm not hooked. I love feeling "useful" in roles people can't otherwise fill.

Wasn't a fan at the start, but found myself playing it all day today. As soon as I leveled up my Dirzzt a bit and learned new combos it became a lot more fun. Haven't played single player yet but the cut scenes and stroy throughout my multi player experience have been entertaining enough to keep me coming back. I don't think it will have much longevity however.
Same here. Im playin thru on “medium-ish” difficulty just for one playthru then uninstalling. I cant see repeating the levels over n over.
There is, in fact, variance between weapons and gear. Gear/Weapons of the same name will look different at every level of rarity with legendary being the most elaborate.
you can only enjoy this game if you have read the books about drizzt and his companions.
I hope they don't abandon it to itself but work on it, because it has potential.
Gonna be honest, I had so much fun with my 2 cousins. Us 3 played for 6 hours last night and we laughed at our failures and celebrated boss wins on higher level difficulty. Honestly on a technical side of things, yeah this game is straight trash. Servers are straight trash. But we made it work and had a blast and are looking forward to doing it again sometime soon. If the game doesn’t seem like it will be fun for you, then that’s okay, don’t buy it and move on. If you and some friends would have fun together with this, go for it and don’t let others dictate what’s fun or not fun for you.

I have had zero glitches in the game as of yet... Oh well maybe I am just lucky :) But glad you at least have an honest review and aren't just on the hate train :)

There are parts of the game I can admire, but it's clear it's not for me. Even though BG Dark Alliance games were very action based like this, they did have an immersive story (albeit fairly linear, like IWD1/2 PC games) and interesting NPCs you interacted with, and an intriguing setting. While this game looks to have virtually no story, and the characters here seem to exist in an arena-like setting for no other reason than to "go kill gobs for loot". And thus this game has no heart nor soul; nothing meaningful to convey emotionally which is pretty bad for a game focused around Drizzt and the Companions, whose stories are in essence about their deep friendship, and their willingness to overcome great obstacles together and tackle the threats that loom over the lands of Faerun.
Though seeing Forgotten Realms in modern 3d graphics and a 3rd person perspective (rather than isometric) does kind of make me imagine how awesome it would be to have D&D RPG game built like Dragon Age Origins, which imho is one of the best RPGs ever made (while the sequels are either quite crappy or mediocre in comparison).
Agree with what you said. Touching on the lack of story yet still implementing the companions, I think if they had just a small character customization and Classes as opposed to Heroes with history behind them, they could have done a better job reaching a casual audience instead of hoping the fans who know the stuff would just be fine with what they made. A lot of potential here, and I'd love to see a more fleshed out 3rd person RPG experience akin to Dragon Age or even Kingdoms of Amalur.

A reasonable, sober review - appreciated. Frankly, some of the 'reviews' for this game have been embarrassing. Yep, this game, unfortunately, has issues and that's a real shame. I hope the developers fix stuff and at least give it a fair shot at realizing its potential. We'll see.

The worst part is that they knew way before releasing the game and still, they decided to do that. That is why they chose to release this triple a game on day one on gamepass. Only b tier indie games devs do that. Gears 5 belongs to xbox so that does not count. Dark alliance reach top seller on steam. Everyone is hyped about that game ( dnd fans and coop game fans in general). They dont need gamepass. They chose gamepass since it will be their lifebouy in case it flops on steam ( which has become true).
@@quangthuyoan9576 To be fair to the Devs here: Typically a lot of these decisions are made by the publisher, and even though the Devs want to spend more time fixing major issues they were probably forced to release it to appease Wizards of the Coast. Still a damn shame though, in a year this'll be a great game.
I mean it was informative but it's weird to assume that fans of a best selling series wouldn't want a decent story just so he can brush past the story. And it's funny that he rationalizes certain flaws by calling it a casual game compared to Diablo of all games. I get that people like Diablo more but it's not a complicated game either. But point made that it's not worth the money. That's what I wanted to know.
@@rorschach775 Yea I didn't think out the story part too well (I have read the books myself). I have always assumed that with a cheap hack n slash games most people don't expect a good story, therefore don't look for one. I assumed wrong!
I like it but the camera and lock on suck. It's satisfying to level up and try out the loot. Online has been decent for me, only a few bugs so far. I've played about 5 hours and plan on playing alot more. Level design reminds me of the recent God of War and overall it reminds me of Darksiders. 7 out of 10.
Camera is fine other than needing the turning speed increased. I never use lock on at all, there's just no need for it.
So I played the first act of chapter one and it took me two hours to finish act one 😭 it’s a lot harder than I thought it was going to be lol. And I was only on difficulty 3 💀.
don't play on 3 if you don't have the gear. the scaling is really bad. tanky enemies and you get bodied easy. I'm assuming they really want you to farm hard before doing anything past 3. I had a full team and we did difficulty 3 on 1 stage but it was way too tedious.
Now do it again as cat...😅😅u will have to go back to 1. 🙄

It's really not. Most of the people that say this probably never even hit level 5. The combat gets so much better and much more involved/complex once you unlock your moves. This isn't some childrens game where you can just come in and spam buttons to win. If you want to do the harder difficulties you have to understand your moveset, what it does, and when to do it all while keeping track of enemy's attacks so you can nuke them down after parrying. It's not too difficult to master, but it does take some dedication and practice.
WoTC have the money to make a Legendary game but they really dont know what they are doing, I guess they only know how to rent/sell there IPs lol

I'm surprised you didn't mention the lag and frame drops while playing co-op. It's pretty bad
I didn't notice that too much, but it seems like many are experiencing issues of those sorts
There is a slight delay in multiplayer it seems, but I've never experienced frame drops. The game runs really smooth.
It still too early (for me) they can fix the main issues in the next patch or update, it has potential!
I got it for the ps5, and the long load times and lagging response to controls feels like I am playing on a pc that just barely meets the minimum system requirements. Also it is nearly unplayable on anything but easy if you are playing solo.

I think it's a fun action slasher. It's not a legendary game, but it's serviceable, ticks the right boxes for the most part, and is a good diversion from other stale titles for the time being. I think the matchmaking however is pretty poorly implemented. Quickmatches disconnect on mission completion, so playing on with a group you enjoyed is a lost cause. I found that playing solo provides a better experience in that you can choose your mission and difficulty, rather than be at the mercy of some group leaders picks, which you may have run more than once and need progression rather than repeated lower loot opportunities.
If I had to put a number on this, I'd give it a solid 7 out of 10. There's good replayability, and what's here is entertaining.

I love the game and my cousin & I rock it a lot but it’s definitely laggy/glitchy and a bit frustrating when you get killed by a flame pit with no animation or poison that you’re 2 ft from but it effects you anyway

He already said in the comments that his playthrough was BEFORE the patch. Personally I think it's unprofessional to make a review before the day 1 patch and complain that it's unfinished and has bugs. Now all the fanboys are bashing a fun game.

I love the game. At its core gameplay is awesome, characters are all different and playing as a team is sooooo fun. Once patches come to make it less glitchy gonna be A tier game for me
From all the reviews i've seen about this game, this one feels the closest to my own opinion. To me, the game feels like something like Devil may cry skill progression, darksiders 2 combat and loot, linear level design only focussed on combat, no long and random puzzles.
the difficulty (on solo) is really weird, difficulty 1, enemies hit like wet noodles, while on difficulty 2, they 1/2-shot you, while having a 1500 gear score
Most of the bugs i've encountered did not impede my enjoyment, granted i haven't finished it yet , just beat the lich boss, but the bugs i have had were things like your checkpoint selection not registering and the ai bug everyone is raving on.
To me, this feels like playing the d&d 4e boxsets for the first time, for example enemies not moving is the person that forgets they have enemies that need to move on their phase, or the small lag spikes being putting a new tile in the exploration phase
The thing that suprised me the most, is the performance, except for the few lag spikes mentioned above, i am always consistently at around 40-50 fps, while playing on a1 year old 500€ Medion pc
All tings considered, is this a masterpiece? No, not at all, but is it so bad as alot of people claim? also no. it feels like Wolcen on release, but Wolcen had worse bugs (deleting file progress, bricking missions, etc), a buggy mess but with some time and effort from the developers, it can become a pretty good game, to play on the side from time to time.
just a last thing: i hope they keep the ragdolling enemies, it's so much fun and over the top, like d&d.
edit: one thing i cant get out of my mind: anyone know who Drizzt's voice actor is? sounds really familiar, but i just cant place it

In all honesty, the ONLY 2 gripes i have so far, the amount of time to get up from being knocked down (which happens way to easily lol, and the button combos like ill try and hit Y+B for team stuff, but ill use my Y skill, or ill just dodge lol.

It really isn't slow and clunky when you get all your moves and learn how to use them. It takes some time, but once you get it down it's really fun and enjoyable. The AI does need some improvement.

Definitely a nostalgia buy I really hope the devs do better with multiplayer matching that’s been a nightmare every match takes awhile plus dc’ing when the match ends is upsetting would much rather return to camp with party option combat hit boxes and I frames could exist and some help with auto targeting but the combat flow when it works is truly great… lore well I wasn’t expecting a full retelling of this at all it’s a lot but I freaking love the little conversations between the companions and the callbacks to events in the series I really want to see what this game brings in the future but work still needs to be done before dlc drop
It reminds me of LOTR: War in the North, even that was made by Snowblind who made BG:DA. I wish this game had AI companions for those who want to solo sometimes. Great review though, you gave the game a really fair perspective.

Looks better than Cyberpunk LOL. I've heard worse for a 40 dollar game. Gonna try it hoping the AI gets fixed. Since that's literally the only gripe that even mattered. Everything else is really forgivable.

I recently was offered gamepass at 1$for 3 months. Played this for 8 hours straight and enjoyed it- minus load screens ( I have BF1 Xbox so not the new fancy one haha) and party disconnects at the end of every mission. Fun game for 1$.
Something with a D&D title shouldn't feel like a glorified Gauntlet Legends.

I thought this is pretty much what you would say. I'm older probably your oldest follower (64) I've run radio stations all my life still do. My motto, under-promise over-deliver. game companies forgot this golden rule years ago but it wasn't always like this. I game a lot probably too much but F I it like it ;-). As for games like this, they know damn well what they're putting out and if they can get enough desperate people to buy and then wait for the preverbal patch or patches, they're ok with that. I buy nothing until I've watched your reviews, do my homework and then make a choice. You right last night during your playthrough, until gamers stop buying half-baked games it will never change.
