Dave -- I use the Klien CL600 and my back up meter is another CL600, they are pretty good. I used to use a nice fluke meter, my first one. I ended up loosing it and it was just to expensive to buy again. Thing with the Klien is I find my self not trusting it as I did the Fluke. I hear great things about the UEI and hope to own one someday. Thanks for your vids! Keep up the good work!

Dave I use a Fluke as my main meter and a Field piece as a back up at the moment.I purchased the UEI DL489 50th anniversary meter about 18 months ago. I kept it as a good back up and my fielpiece started to act up so I started using the UEI as my primary meter and it only lasted around 5 nonths.....the amps just go up and down irracticly.....so U purchased the fluke as my main meter....in 3 years in the field of commercial AC and refrigeration in south Florida I have not had much luck with a deownda league meter ..2 field piece, 1 UEI & now on the Fluke....😤😤 could be the operator .Thanks for all the helpful Vids really appreciate your experience..keep them coming Thanks.

Used two FPiecers until Florida humidity killed them. It’s condensation from cold walk in freezers and the Florida heat and humidity . 429 is now primary with an old folks 323 as backup.
Thanks to you and Knoth for the 429 recommendation.
    Good video!

Good video. I presently run my Testo 770-3. Great great meter with wireless- which for the newbies, is so handy when doing blower motor amp readings. And your totally spot on. You need to have a back up in the van. My back up is my FLUKE 87V. I honestly believe its one of the best meters made. Only reason I don't run it daily is no amp clamp on it but for accuracy you cannot beat it!! Cheers

Question for you Dave. I took your advise and bought a back up meter. I bought the Supco CPH100. when I turn the meter on to check AC it automatic comes on to DC. Is there a way to have it come on to AC? Afraid one day I'll miss this and either fry the meter or curry my hair, I hate curry hair!!!!
    Thanks

Dave I found a uei meter stuck to a rtu. It had been up there 2 weeks and still worked. I returned it to the tech that left it and he couldn’t believe it was still working.
I am using a fieldpieace hs36 and is has got wet twice and stopped working. Only to come back to life. I also have a Milwaukee one it’s ok but sometimes it’s hard to get the amps with the forks. My main meter right now is a fluke 587 which cost way to much to use everyday. I am currently looking for a new everyday meter and I am thinking about getting a fluke clamp style. 30 years doing this and can’t have to many meters

Thanks Dave, you go above and beyond on your vids. I have been using the fluke 902 every since my fieldpiece crapped out on me. I've got 2 or 3 back up meters. I keep a fluke 789 on the van for a backup and process calibrations and an old amprobe clamp meter in my shop. I also have a couple home depot cheap meters for junk work. It's hard for me to get away from the Fluke meters. I've been using them for over 30 years and have acquired a certain amount of trust in them.

    Hey Dave,
I dont need to go Black Friday shopping, you got it going on right here 🤙.
Due to your review video you uploaded here. I got this Uei DL429 as my 1st meter in this trade. Been loving it. I never thought about a back up meter so thanks for another tip for us rookie's Lol. I love to win this giveaway. I think having 2 of the same meter as a backup will be much easier then trying to figure out or remember how the other meter works. Plus if one has a dead battery, you got back up.
Also Uei have pretty good customer service. Thanks for the great idea again Dave!

Hey Dave! I'm a new tech. Love your videos!!! Learning a lot! THANKS!! Just finishing school in Ohio. I sunk all my $$ in a Fieldpiece 660. I don't have a back-up. Hadn't even thought about it til you just said something; Yeah. Makes good sense, but I went broke on the Fieldpiece!! The money it takes up-front to get started is depressing! I could really use this meter!!! I'd like to try it and compare it with the 660 which I like so far; they look like twins. I would have never thought of using the UEi brand til I saw your success with them, would love to try one for myself. Wish me luck! :-)

    Hey Dave,
I love my Amprobe ACD14-Pro, that thing is awesome. Backlight stays on for 20min. & it has the fastest capacitor checker i've ever seen. My favorite backup meter is my little "mini-meter" the Uni-T UT210E. That little sucker is extremely accurate & it ever does DC amps thru the clamp, which not alot of meter do that. Thanks for the opportunity to win Dave 🤙

Hi Dave. My primary meter is a Fluke T5600. My backup is a Fluke 117. I am not necessarily partial to Fluke although they are good meters. Usually when I loose a meter or it gets broken I find a deal and will get that one. Sometimes my supply house will have a sale and I pick one up then.

Put my UEi DL429 in my diagnostic bag. Use it for heat pump maintenance. Like the dual display for checking voltages and amps without having to push buttons. I have a Fluke 87 V, UEi DL 429, Fieldpiece SC640, Redfish iDVM510, Fluke 374, and an Amprobe AMP320. I use the Flukes in my VRV set up, due to their lower operating temperature specs, the UEi in my diagnostic bag, due to the dual display, the FP SC640 in my RTU bag, along with the AMP320 (it has the ability to get accurate amp draw readings with the tip of the clamp, good for RTU start up readings with those tight wires). I even have a Reed megohmmeter that will act as a backup volt meter if needed. Not to mention my Fluke 116 I keep at home. I’ve got backups for my backups. And I don’t want to be entered in the drawing, just commenting on the gear I have. Let that meter go to someone who could use it.

thoughts on dl429 vs dl429b? Seems the B does DC amps where the 429a doesnt. Then you have the dl489 it is not wireless but it has dc amps and ac micro amps. Is the wireless feature worth 100 dollars i guess in the grand scheme of things having the feature is worth a 100 dollars since it can always come in handy. Working mainly residential and light commercial i rarely will ever use dc amps.

Just got the uei 599 and really like it. From all I’ve seen uei is a solid meter company. Fieldpiece seems to be more tailored for hvac, and not the whole spectrum of electrical testing. Some of the fluke meters seem to not always have a broad range of capabilities in their hvac meters as well.

I’m currently running the field piece sc640 but my back up is a fluke amp meter.

Fieldpiece SC440 for the last few years with no back up...amp setting has been a bit funky lately, fingers crossed!

Nice video man and a very good tip, I've had my meter take a crap on me in the worst possible time. I'm currently running the Klein CL800 which I like pretty good does everything I need plus DC amps cause I also work on generators. I keep a HS36 as my back up and a cheaper southwire just in case... #hvaclivesmatter 😂🤣keep up the good work brotha.

Great video. I have back up meters thankfully. Just lost my hs36, chicken stock and all the leads I had. Problem is I have junkie back ups. I narrowed down to what I want. I want a clamp meter. Don't want to carry 2 separate clamp and multimeter. Its between dl429b, fieldpiece sc660 or sc680 and the Extech EX623. The sc660 says it's a retired clamp on their site. Not sure what that means and why they are moving on from it. Kind of worried about that. Sc680 just came out so I may go with that one. It's just really pricey. The backlight on the selector switch and the flashlight is a huge plus on sc660 and sc680. What are your opinions on these 3 meters.

Thanks for the review Dave. Using fluke 224 right now, got it used and no current back up meter. Ifnim not fortunate to win that bad boy id probably buy a cheap back uo meter from home harbor freight.

Hey Dave, I have a UEI 379 and a cheap $50 Klein as my backup. Unfortunately the Klein pooped out on me so I'm in the market for a new meter 😁.

Fluke 89 & FP 640. Backup: fluke 10 and , I think it’s a 32. I even have a wooden case analog meter from the 1940’s that works, but I don’t keep it in the van. Thanks Dave

I started out with a uei meter similar to your older unit. Got it with the 1st tool pack they gave me in school lol. I have both the uei and an older fluke clamp meter for back up now since i just upgraded to a feild piece hs36 just last week lol

got the Fieldpiece HS36 as the main the backup on the truck UNI-T UT210E. always have a backup especially handy when you are getting a funky number out of something you can check it with the other meter. i love the fluke stuff i keep a 117 and 83 at the house. I think Norm Abram was right about clamps and multi meters you can never have to many.

Thinking of getting the dl429 after your vids n reviews (which i think is the reason the price of it shot up 📈 🙄) got 3 fieldpieces hs36, sc76, and the backup was sc 53 but its my favorite compact fits in pouches easy gets used most !

Got some bad advice when I started and got a FP 260. It’s a good solid meter but doesn’t read Micro amps?! So it needs to become my back
