It's view count, viewer retention, ad placement, demographics, upload frequency, and algorithmic luck that actually determine how much money a channel makes. The torque rating of drill motors is at zero RPM. Even infinite torque @ zero RPM = zero horsepower. I think the motor in most cordless drills is about 300 Watts - So 300 * 48 = 14,400 W = 14.4 kW = 19 HP

I'm sure there's only a few bazillion amps running through that contactor switch of sudden death next to the driver, lol. But can't really blame you all for going the simple route on that. As neat as it would be to make a proper controller setup would be pretty darn expensive and a heck of a lot of work. These guys are a little nuts, but they're never boring. No doubt about it, lol... Might not be the fastest ride, but it could probably drive straight up a wall if it had the traction. Enough torque in that thing to pull a reinforced concrete building down, lol...

The average 18v drill makes about .5 hp. Multiplied by 48? I only count 48 drills. 8 rows of 6. So that would work out to about 24 hp. Minus parasitic loss, so maybe around 18-20 hp? 😅 Torque is dependent on the gearing of course

_"The average 18v drill makes about .5 hp. Multiplied by 48? I only count 48 drills. 8 rows of 6. So that would work out to about 24 hp."_ Horsepower is measured as a rate of change. If you have a 5hp motor on a go-cart, that is 5 hp. If you add an additional 5hp motor to the go-cart, 5hp + 5hp still equals 5hp but you now can carry two people on that go-cart instead of one.
.5hp x 48 drills will still only give you only .5hp.

I live in the UK and I remember about 30 years ago I used to occasionally get picked up and dropped off by a taxi driver that owned a lada and all I can remember about that car is how comfortable the seats used to be Baywatch so thick and spongy compared to all the other cars on the roads at the time

    Cool!
Im thinking you could have tied these in parallel to a few 12volt batteries that are wired in series giving 24volts (assuming you use 24v drills). This ensures qual load to all the drills.
As far as drills go, use brushless and make a long shaft that goes throughout 10. Use a pulley in the middle to attach it to a cvt tranny. Use the pulleys from 5 other set ups to deliver the power to the cvt.
I could be wrong but I believe it would be more effective, a simplier design, and give you far more control

This is awesome and I really love that switch you guys made. One thing I would do differently would be to add power rails to each shaft so you would connect each drill with the shortest amount of wire possible. It adds a lot of resistance with the length of all those wires and would probably get pretty hot. I think you guys are using 14, 12 or 10 gauge hard to tell from the video. But I'd wire up each drill for 10-8 gauge connected to that power rail. Then an additional power rail combining each shaft. I'd use 6-4 gauge wire to run to an high amperage electrical contactor and control the contactor with a switch. That would ensure you are running at the most optimal power, with the least amount of heat.

This would work even better if you ran separate all drill motor wiring in a group of four, used four DC golf cart controllers to control the throttle. 48volts

Love the content guys. Keep it up!
So what will you do with all the batteries now that the project is complete? You likely have around 200-400 18650 cells inside those battery packs. These could be salvaged to make a fairly massive battery pack or they could be connected in parallel and plugged into a higher voltage source (120-240v from the wall, etc.) to make a fairly spectacular light show. Just don't do this in the house... or the shop... or a dry field. The pack cannot be extinguished until the polymer is exhausted, so it may be best to do this on a pad of concrete somewhere.
Also, recommend picking up a large switch or contactor that can take between 100 and 1000 amps. This way you'll be able to make and break connections without playing with hot jumper cables. If something had gone wrong, it may have lit up like a lightbulb in your hand. It'd have been a good scar that'd you'd be able to show off for the rest of your life.

You should set up the lever that turns the drills on and off as if it's a pedal, if you put it where the throttle pedal usually goes and then you could put a spring that pushes the contacts apart so that when you stop pushing on the pedal it disconnects, it would allow you to shift the transmission and drive with both hands like you would in a regular car
