I needed a new meter for performing maintenance around the house because my old one died. I looked at lots of meters but based on your videos I decided to buy the UEI DL389B TRMS Dual Display Clamp Meter It is still in transit to me so I decided to watch this video again and I am even more happy that I got this meter. It is not the Pro + model but since I am only using it around the house so I am OK with that. Until I become fully comfortable with all the features of this new meter I will likely be watching this video again when the meter arrives at the house. I watch all your videos and am grateful you explain them so well. Thanks for another great video!
I finally went to this video again to learn how to use my meter better. I read the instructions but forgot you made this video so I am back again many months later. Wow you did a great job explaining everything and I learned how to correctly use my meter. As I already said I do not use it often but when I do I want to know what I am doing so thanks! I have one question though: When you were testing the capacitors shouldn't you have advised to drain the capacitor by crossing the two terminals with a screwdriver before testing? Keep the videos coming! I watch them all.
Thanks for the instruction on how to use the meter for boiler testing. I have been doing my own boiler repair with the help of my brother-in-law who is 250 miles away by phone. After watching your instruction on how to test the different functions of the boiler with your meter I now have a better understanding of what my brother-in-law is talking about. I also understand how to use my clamp meter which is a Klein CL 390. Thanks for the help.
Funny, I’ve had the UEI G-2 PRO:DL379 for about 10 years, same as yours really, I see no difference at all, I’ve never known how to really use it, I’ve had life long electricians get pissed at me because my meter was better than theirs, I’m just a lowly heat guy lol, I’m glad you made this video with this meter, I could’ve been checking flame rods the easy way all his time, and I didn’t know about the voltage tester either. The max/min button is going to be great to use, 38 years in the heating and plumbing trade, I’m just starting to do AC, you’re helping a lot, for me to learn, I have to understand the Why first, then it all comes easy because I know how it works, the rest is simple, your videos are helping me a lot. Thanks Jay, you’re doing a great job. 🇮🇹😎🇮🇹

Well worth the 42 mins. Thank you. I have learned more about a Meter and Furnace than I knew. I have to clean the flame sensor on my Furnace every year.
Trained by the Air Force in Basic Electronics tech school Keesler AFB right after Basic Training. Those were 8 hour days with block exams every week. Pass the exam with an 80 and move on to the next block or don't and repeat the week of training with the class coming up behind you. This was called getting washed back and was an ever looming threat as these skilled job slots were competitive. Wash back twice and you lost your guaranteed tech job and got put in a new specialty. Maybe fuels, security or as a cook. You're a good teacher. Hope you'll do more on actual component testing. Maybe spend some time using a white board to explain troubleshooting with a schematic. Now, explaining what an Ohm and a Farad and what Capacitance is, now that's an idea.
That schooling is tough. Sounds very rushed, doesn't give enough time to fully grasp what is being taught. Glad to hear the videos were somewhat helpful. Thank you for the video suggestions for the future!
The answer to the puzzle is 30! The video helped me understand the meter. I am a homeowner and have some electrical issues. My light bulbs in the kitchen keeps going out. These are LED which should last some 13 years. It does not happen in any other area in the house. Also each time the HVAC come on, the lights dim.
I bought one of those meters. Directions weren't all that detailed. Now that I have watched your video, I am very comfortable with the meter. Thanks for a great video!
Thanks so much for the complete overview of the function of a multimeter. I have one similar to yours and a bunch of those cheap 10.00 ones but am so frustrated because I know so little about how to use them other than continuity and volts. Well done. This is the type of video that is needed to really understand your meter. Not throwing out words and showing you something without an explanation- as if a lay person understands meters and how to apply. Very thorough explanation as if I were doing it myself. Good job.
Excellent video! Two additional things that you might want to point out to your viewers.....the clamp and non-voltage contact setting usually only work on AC current, not DC direct current so the user still has to be careful when touching the wires as DC current may still be present and not detected by the tester. Also, may capacitors can still hold a strong charge several days/weeks after being charged so they should be shorted out by touching a metal screwdriver across the leads to bring the charge back to zero so the user does get a shock before testing them. All in all, a great and helpful presentation!
I’m new in learning this , and my first language is Spanish , I’ll give 5 stars for this excellent explanation of how to use the multimeter functions,l’ll be following you for the next videos & l am going to watch this video over again to refresh the functions one more time. Excellent video and explanation. I just bought a different clamp meter, the Klein CL900, but the same principles apply, so very useful video. BTW, the resistance symbol for ohms (the upside down horseshoe) is actually the Greek symbol Omega. The same symbol appears on Omega wristwatches.
Thanks so much. You are a natural teacher. I believe You are the "best thing" going on UA-cam for HVAC learning, and now, Electric Multimeters. Because of you, I was able to fix the capacitor in my Rheem HVAC almost effortlessly and for only $20. I should send you the $500 I saved. I love your easy and attention to detail explanations. Again, You are the BEST.
Thank you, this really helped me understand a little bit more about how to use my meter. Hopefully I can troubleshoot and fix my dryer that isn't heating.
Nice video I guess 40 on the teaser. (probably wrong) In the Alarm business I have used my meter for just Voltage, mainly DC, I was happy to learn about the other functions of my meter! good job on this video I loved it. We use Diodes in access control to prevent reverse voltage on electric strikes and Ohms to just check the Resistors used in EOL devices like horn strobe NAC circuits. One tip on measuring Resistance - don't add the resistance of your fingers. Holding the resistors with your fingers will change the resistance measurements. And did you know you can stack resistors to get to your desired resistance, but you have to watch your AMP load is not higher than the resistors capability. After your video I may be in the market for a new meter! Keep up the good content!
Have you taught about teaching in community college or trade school, you are very good instructor and may God bless you for always sharing your knowledge
Glad to hear you like the videos! 😄 15 is incorrect and 35 is closer but also incorrect. I think besides the shoes you are still missing something else. It's a tricky one
Diode feature: I use to check diodes. When connected to the diode it will display the voltage required to make the diode conduct. This can be from 0.5 up to 2 volts depending on the type of diode. Hook up backwards and make sure you do not get a reading. This can also be used to check Bijunction transistors.
Hello, it is my great pleasure to congratulate you on a perfect video on using the meter. It was a pleasure to watch this informative video. I see due to you youth and intelligence you will do very well in your chosen field. Let me speak for all who will watch your video with a loud and truthful-THANK YOU.
I was looking for a new meter - and I'm going with this one. Looks like a good product. Great presentation - but just so you know... the "upside down horseshoe symbol" - is an Omega.
Video and explanations were great. The "upside down horseshoe" is the upper case Greek letter Omega. (Long O...OOOOmega...OOOOhms) The "backwards U" is the lower case Greek letter Mu (like Moo...what a cow says). It is the equivalent of an English M and being lower case it stands for "m...icro" in electronics terminology. I think the answer to the puzzle is 14. Thanks for the excellent teaching. I just got this meter although I have had another for a long time and only knew how to use some of the functions.
Jay, just another phenomenal explanation of using a multimeter with amp clamp & troubleshooting a typical modern furnace! Really super detailed & instructive! Thanks for your time & effort that you put into these videos, truly appreciative!
LOL If I don't have any thermometers left ! I feel that ! I usually find mine on the next seasons furnace or AC service …. I like your vids well done !

3 Duty Cycle uses that came to my mind quickly... Duty Cycle is used in HVAC for testing: 1) PWM blower motors (Constant Air Flow ECM). 2) PWM gas valves (Modulating Furnaces). 3) Simulated 3 Phase AC (Inverter compressor in mini-splits for an example)
Great video! Keep them coming. I got my career diploma in HVACR and by far you make more sense than the school that I learned from did. Thank you much. As for the riddle, It took me a little bit to notice his little shoes and flowers. HAHA!
Nice one , I am really grateful, my answer to your question is 15 10+10+10 =30 or (5+5)+(5+5)+(5+5)=30, 5+5+10=20, 4+4+5=13 or (2+2)+(2+2)+5=20 and 5+5*2=5+10=15

@@bradpeterson6193 Sorry, that is incorrect :) Pay close attention to that bottom row and don't forget that multiplication comes before addition.
ANOTHER AWESOME VIDEO WELL EXPLAINED THANKS!
Following the Order of Operations the correct answer is 43. I enjoyed the video too. Thanks.
43 is correct! Glad you liked the video, thanks for leaving a comment!
Thanks It helps to actually know how to read the multi reader thanks is good advice
You are indeed a Great Teacher too,
And we like hear your expert solutions.
Thanks
Thank you. Just starting my hvac class and this helped alot.
Very educational for non-electricians. Keep up the good work!
Excellent tutorial! Clearly explained all functions/aspects of the unit. Thank you.
Thanks for the great job , you should be a teacher . You have a way of teaching that is very easy to understand .
Thank you! I try to "speak in English" as much as I can ;)
I am In Senegal looking for job and school to complete my class I am so happy for you thanks so much
Very good job of covering the capabilities of the meter. Thanks
As I am a current student of HVAC/R trade. I Am following your channel, and your advice on tool, and how to’s.
Thank You
Great, Great Video. This is the best tutorial about Multimeter. Thanks for all the efforts.
Awesome explanation good teacher you are ...keep those videos coming thank you an ( God bless you)
Thank you for commenting! God bless you too!
Nice video I guess 40 on the teaser. (probably wrong)
In the Alarm business I have used my meter for just Voltage, mainly DC, I was happy to learn about the other functions of my meter! good job on this video I loved it.
Very new to hvac and this helped alot definitely will re-watch and share with my classmates
Have you taught about teaching in community college or trade school, you are very good instructor and may God bless you for always sharing your knowledge
Great You Are A Wealth Of Information Thank You Sir.
Thank you. Your videos are the best out there! Really appreciate your time!
You're welcome! Thank you for commenting! :)
Best video I’ve watched on meters thank you , i just bought one of those meters
Thank you! It's a great meter, I'm sure you will like it!
Currently trying to get my HVAC certification right now, very helpful video!
You have the best videos, I'm binge watching all of them.
The answer to the teaser is 15
5+5*2
I just saw he is wearing red shoes
That means 5+15*2 is 35
But it's not clear if wearing red shoes is added or multiplied
Glad to hear you like the videos! 😄
15 is incorrect and 35 is closer but also incorrect. I think besides the shoes you are still missing something else. It's a tricky one
@@WordofAdviceTV43
You’re very correct while explaining in detail ,.......god blesses your good intentions....thumbs up 120% good
I have the same multimeter, I thank you for the tutorial and teaching me!!!
Diode feature: I use to check diodes. When connected to the diode it will display the voltage required to make the diode conduct. This can be from 0.5 up to 2 volts depending on the type of diode. Hook up backwards and make sure you do not get a reading. This can also be used to check Bijunction transistors.
Thank you for explaining insylem!
Great video. Thank you. And answer is 15. 5x2=10+5=15
Thank you! That's good for the first try but 15 is incorrect.
Is it weird that your sidetrscking actually helps me learn what your teaching
Not at all! :) Glad to hear that the sidetracking was worth leaving in the video!
thanks for the very infomative tutorial.
thanks man. i’m starting hvac school june 4. wish me luck 🔥
Thank you for explaining what I didn't in the video! I am sure you will enjoy the new meter but as for the puzzle, 14 is incorrect. It's a tricky one.
Haha good to know that I'm not alone :) Thank you for watching!
thank you for your videos they are the best, we appreciate your time
You're welcome, glad you liked it! Thank you for commenting!
This is fantastic!! Thank you so much. My school never showed me out the class what this meter is capable of🤦♂️😐
Great video and information thanks for taking the time and sharing your knowledge with us viewers I’m going to use the link you pro and order mine! 2Shoes =10 1boy = 5 2dozen =4 1shoe = 5 1boy = 5 1dozen = 2 answer 5+5x2=20
Thank you! Glad you liked the video! Unfortunately 20 is incorrect though.
You sound like a tech who really knows his stuff! :) Thank you for explaining the uses of the duty cycle!
Yes.
This is the only way to that I know of to measure the output of a Pulse Wave Modulator (PWM) device. Big help to me. Thanks !
I really like your videos! Thank you! Shoe =10, Boy=5, (13-Boy5=8)/2=4.... (Fry4XBoy5)+Shoe10=30...? I like how many different answers there are!
Great video! Keep them coming. I got my career diploma in HVACR and by far you make more sense than the school that I learned from did. Thank you much. As for the riddle, It took me a little bit to notice his little shoes and flowers. HAHA!
Thank you! Glad to hear you liked the video and the riddle! Thanks for watching and playing!
I believe the answer is 12. Great video. I just bought the DL379B and your video explained everything about how to use it. Thank You!
Awesome! Glad the video helped! And that is not the correct answer :) That bottom row is tricky..
Nice one , I am really grateful, my answer to your question is 15
10+10+10 =30 or (5+5)+(5+5)+(5+5)=30, 5+5+10=20, 4+4+5=13 or (2+2)+(2+2)+5=20 and 5+5*2=5+10=15
Thank you for playing! That was a good guess but 15 is incorrect.
