Hi I'm Aldo of denver Co. I'm in hvac working 4 month's.... and I see you videos... I learned a lot from your videos, I want to say Thanks and you explain so good because you show step by step you make so easy to lerning and I love more what I do for live..
I have the DL 389 and it is one of the best meters that I have ever had. I had a difficult time finding a meter that could measure DC amps, but this one does, and with all of the features, I simply love it!
I just ordered the 369 only because the way I was trained I don’t really ever use the temp setting on my bosses meter so and the magnet and screen light up don’t bother me , but being relatively new to the trade I couldn’t afford a high end meter but for now the 369 will do just fine.
The reason why I like fluke is due to their reliability. They are well built and they and solid state pieces of equipment. I tried those you are showing right there and no luck. I remember trying to read a capacitor once and it would take forever compare to the fluke, the technician that was showing it to me told me to be patient. They might have improved now and they are better. However, I prefer the Fluke 902FC, has all those features plus Bluetooth, I use it for diagnostics of pieces of equipment that need to the data recorded in order to figure out what is wrong with the equipment. I don’t have a light or a proximity tester, no even a magnet, but for me it is more safe and reliable. I can even test ohms on live circuits with no problem. Just don’t leave it in there for too long, you might blow a fuse on your tester. I respect your opinion but remember, it is your life you are trusting to these pieces of equipment. To me would be like comparing a $5000 dollars smart tv to one of those droids tv that run for $500, sure it does the same thing and more, but does it do it better?
Fieldpiece is my personal choice the fieldpiece detachable accessory heads can also be used on the UEI meters . Own the Fieldpiece sc640 love it just a lil to big going to be getting the sc440 soon
Thanks man May God bless you and your family with prosperity , good health, and happiness in New Year. praying that you and your family have happy and healthy New Year!
do you have any videos explaining the proper way to use the dl379b? I keep my 24 year old Bryant furnace working fine because of your shared knowledge on HVAC issues and videos. I'm an old man with a little experience in every craftsman trade you can name. You have a gift and you are a good teacher!
I get a little impatient at times! I came across your Detailed Instruction video on the 389. I saw how it could and does apply to the 379B as well. Thank you!
Great video. Thanks for the explanation. Saved me lot of reading. I'll get the 89. I rather just spend the money. And that looks more like a wolf than fox over the gaggle.
Wesley Edwards hey man. Have you ever had problems with any uei meters? I have a uei and considering getting a fieldpiece. But not sure I should. What problems have you had with UEI?
Hi Jay, Does the DL379 and DL389 have an audible sound mode/function for testing continuity? (like some meters have). Thanks and hope things are going well in your new location with your move... Phil
Thank you Dan! To be honest, I know as much as you do about that one :) I have owned all the models in this video at one time or another but never had a DL479 yet. Let us know how it goes!
You may read this after 4 years. My question is I am a DIYer I looking at the DL369 for the cost, however I need to know how to set to MicroFared uf . The short instructions are not clear and I am not trained HVAC or Electrician bt I just need to test my AC/HP capacitor. Or can you recommend another brand that the settings are easier to understand.
The uF or MFD setting should be auto ranging. This means the meter will automatically adjust the measurement according to the component being measured.
@@DavidMoriconiM3inspect My apologies, I misunderstood the question. On the DL369, you would set the dial to the MFD setting which is the same thing as uF.
@@WordofAdviceTV So you are saying if I want to check an AC/HP capacitor I turn the dial to MFD on the DL 369. The last time I watched the video It looked like you got uf when the dial was set on ohms.
Looking at various meters. Interested in capacitance reading. One unit has this spec---> ± 4.0% of rdg + 5D. I get that the accuracy is 4% of reading......what does "+5D" mean?... Up to 5 decimal places readout?
Thank you for the suggestion! I will try to make a video like that later on. Since neither myself or anyone in my family has a heat pump, this makes it a bit more difficult to find my test subject :)
Yes, thank you for pointing that out! All 4 of those meters have a lead holder on the amp clamp. I talk about that and show it in my detailed meter tutorial video: ua-cam.com/video/zr4Ow1JT9jU/v-deo.html
Would you know the difference between the UEI DL389 and the DL389B models? Looking to buy a TRMS meter, but I cannot find out the difference. Thanks as always....... Philip
Do you know which one would measure dc (clamp on measurement) current up to say 15-20 amp?Dc current clamp on seems to make this meters get very expensive!
To be honest I am not entirely sure but I always thought that these meters can measure both, AC and DC amps with the amp clamp. I don't remember the last time I checked DC amps though, so I can't say for sure which meters can or cannot.
I tried to order the 89 from your links but the delivery to Canada is much longer compared to me just buying straight from Canadian Amazon. Just saying. Otherwise I would.

When I researched RMS my understanding of it is that you get a more accurate DC reading. Fieldpiece comes with RMS but I'm a UEI guy myself.
Wesley Edwards hey man. Have you ever had problems with any uei meters? I have a uei and considering getting a fieldpiece. But not sure I should. What problems have you had with UEI?
@Wesley Edwards Yes, RMS is accurate for DC readings but TRMS (True RMS) is accurate for fluctuating or pulsating AC readings.
So far so good. I wouldn't switch if I were you Rob Brown.
I am kinda curious why they would give us the DL379B for school, now, instead of something with the True RMS.
Also if you didn't know you can use the fieldpiece heads on the uei like the duel temp, and manometer.
That's good to know! Thank you for pointing that out.
