  • How I removed the auger assembly from a Yardworks Snowblower to paint the inner auger housing. In the process I learned a little bit about removing the impeller bearing which I pass onto you.

    called it!
Got one of these snowblowers hauled apart right now, trying to figure out what way the auger bearing comes out - this answers it. Thanks!

Thanks for the video. I have the exact same blower, and I have mine dissembled to the same level as yours. It needs some welding and a new paint job to fix all the rust. I was wailing on that shaft with a piece of wood on top to try and get it free from the bearing and it hasn't budged an inch. I didn't even think to use a wheel, or bearing puller. I'll have to give that a try tomorrow

Make sure to watch part 2 ua-cam.com/video/THet3fs9hXc/v-deo.html as I correct myself on the shape of the bearing and shaft after I was able to dis-assemble it later.

39knights thanks. I saw that shortly after my comment. I managed to get it off with a killer no problem but there is no way in hell I am getting the roll pins out holding the impeller to the shaft. :(

I just removed one that had been in place for 10 years. I cut it off. A dremel is sufficient to cut it. A few whacks with a chisel also to crack it free once you've cut most of the way through. I tried soaking it with penetrating oil for hours, and I tried heating the inner race with mapp/oxygen torch. No luck. If you could let penetrating oil soak in for several days, applying repeatedly, it may help.

      - Good tips! Most of the time, just cut it. I too have my fair shares of trying to get things off... But if the " Parts " is an interchangeable part, just cut it off. It will be a lot easier and faster as well.

Thank you for posting this. Have a Craftsmen machine that has the same bearing and was stumped on how to remove it. Your video helped me a great deal and I will probably be able to fix my machine now - Someone put NAILS in where the shear pins go(?!?!).

Couple years behind you on this... but how the heck do you get that bearing off?? I am stumped!

That bearing and what looks like a separate spacer next to it are all one piece. If you watch part 2 here ua-cam.com/video/THet3fs9hXc/v-deo.html I show you how I tried a bearing puller but it still wouldn't come off. I used a mini grinder with a thin cutting disc to cut down through the race but stopping just before the shaft (that is guess work so go slow). Then I used a cold-cut chisel in that cut which well usually force the bearing race to split and become loose enough to pull off. In either case try and cut or beat the outer bearing case and bearings out of it to reveal the bearing race on the shaft. If you have sufficient heat and a puller it might work; if not you can do what I did. Hope it helps.

I have a similar snowblower. The bearing was seized. I heated it and soaked it with penetrating oil each day for 3 days. After that using puller did the job
