TSA Keys... A Great Addition to Your Carry-On

  • It is a substantially non-zero number of times where I've been fortunate to have a set of TSA keys in my carry-on luggage when traveling.
I've had friends and associates whose personal travel locks have malfunctioned (combination codes failing to work out of the blue is the most common failure mode) and I've also helped out in situations when the TSA has broken into someone's luggage and then applied their own locks before sending luggage on to its destination.
In all such cases, having some TSA keys in your luggage (either 3D printed or metal, factory-produced keys) can come in handy. This is a short video with an example of such a situation!
NOTE: The winner of the super pointy tactical pen has been chosen. By random selection (viewable here... • Winner Drawing - "Steak" ) the winner is Usty. I have replied to them below and we'll hopefully connect soon. Nice work, everybody!

For a country so concerned with personal freedom, it amazes me just what kind of shit the TSA gets away with. There's no way anyone in Europe would be fine with something like this.
1: Your baggage should only be accessible by you. There's what, 7 different TSA keys? And most are available online. There's zero security there
2: The whole if they need to search your baggage they'll just cut the lock.. They could also just fucking call you over the intercom and have you come open it.
3: Things like in the video. They unlocked the lock, and didn't relock it, so for an average user it's now unusable, just like if it hadn't been a TSA-approved lock. And they also didn't lock the baggage up again.
The TSA might do good work, or they might not, but the lock-system needs to be done away with, because it's awful for security and flyers in general.

Yes, but how does one exactly go about defuckulating a steak? I suppose if it came out still mooing, you could ask them to knock the horns off and give it a suntan, but if it's already been turned into a piece of shoe leather, there's no defuckulating it -- Unless of course you have someone who can cobble some new shoes for you.

We occasionally get field service techs at my work that have to fly in. Almost all of them complain about TSA opening their tool boxes and dumping things out to search, and then just throwing it all back in.
I've made the same suggestion to each one. None have tried it though.
I tell then to buy the cheapest piece of crap pistol they can find. Raven 25 or Jennings or something. Strip it to just the serialized frame (so it's non functional). The frame is LEGALLY the gun. Then declare the gun and use a standard non-TSA lock. Then they can't mess with it without you present.

Really love your channel man, Your hacker conf video "I'll Let Myself In" got me interested in security/tech again for the first time again in 10 odd years, and I started learning lockpicking and more mechanical skills and now am an avid locksport enthusiast. Have been watching your videos for a while and learning a huge amount, all the stuff on key biting and impressioning has been fascinating, especially.
As for steak, I've been cooking 2-3 a week now for the last year, light medium rare/rare, almost blue, and usually I pan fry with oil for a sear first and then baste it in butter and crushed garlic clove, and then (other than seasoning of salt, a bit of pepper) a very light sprinkling of Fleur de sel on top whilst it rests, and that just melts right into the outside after a few minutes. Absolutely delicious and no fancy treatments needed or sauces or anything extra, just a good cut of meat.

I just breathe on my TSA locks. They come right open. If you want to really piss off the TSA use a beefy zip tie. Then they have to find something to cut it off with 🤣🤣🤣

Fun fact if you buy steak in blended up pineapple and leave it for around 10 hours it depending on the thickness it will tenderize the meat and make it better.

It is said that Lord Peterborough supping one night with Rich in his private room, was so delighted with the steak the latter grilled him that he suggested a repetition of the meal the next week.

I love a nice meduim-rare steak that has had a full day in the sous vide, though considering I usually don't have too much time to properly finish it, adding just a little liquid smoke seems to bring out the proper color and smell you'd expect from a steak.

i personally enjoy me a dry rub steak, get some salt, black pepper, garlic and onion powder, get a cast iron pan spitting hot and throw some bacon grease in that sucker, throw in some chives and let 'em fry, deglaze with some water (or red wine if possible) and sear the hell out of both sides of your chosen cut, 3 mins on a side or until the color creeps at least halfway up the side so it meets in the middle (sear the edges if it's overly thick so as not to burn either side. remove just before optimal doneness and it'll cook with residual heat. cut across the grain and served with peppers and onions grilled in aluminum foil with butter and garlic, there's nothing better to fill you up.

Stake! Defuckulate is an awesome new word! I also despise the TSA and security theater in general.
