This video was super helpful for me. Managed to do it myself today. Took a while to get it out but putting the new one in was much quicker. Thanks again.
That A LOT! For this video. Im no mechanic at all, but friends told me this job wasnt too hard, watched video 3 times, and managed to replace it perfect.. One issue, i didnt realise how awkward getting the old one out past them pipes was, maybe u moved them out the way bettet then i managed haha, but all in, engine starts straight away, so thanks for the video, great help
My break down man diagnosed a faulty starter motor after checking the original in situ,....so I fitted a new one. Thank you much for taking the time and effort. It helped that I didn't have to 'go in blind'. Unfortunately I'm a hundred quid down and my van still doesn't start😢. The breakdown man tried jumping it with a power-packed so it's not the battery and the solenoid sounds OK. Not sure what to do next
You could try the earth strap from the engine to the chassis. If you have access to jump leads then put one onto the engine block somewhere and a good bolt on the chassis - they’re a common fault too.
Hello, I also have a problem with the Citroen 2007 van. In the morning, it starts after an hour, but it doesn't start anymore. I have to wait an hour for it to start, what's the problem?
My Berlingo 2010 sounds the same starting, Initially thought is was the battery, got a new one, still the same. Dont think its the alternator as no dimming of lights or dash lights etc. Im not sure though if it is the starter as i am able to jump it off the old battery i carry around everytime it won't start, not very practical but i dont want to have to put a new starter in only to realise it could be a relay or someting else?
I’d start with getting your battery checked. If they’re no good then it can’t provide enough power to crank the engine over. If the van turns over while being jump started then even more likely that the battery isn’t any good. Other things to check are the earth strap between the engine and chassis - you can try a jump lead from the engine to chassis to check.
hi bud, i have had 3 starter motors installed....they all have gave up.......is this acommon problem? where is the relay that controls this located? maybe mine is banjaxed...i cant see it in the wiring diagrams anywhere :( thanks for video
Hi Muskymcg, mine lasted about 80k miles each. In the end I just bought a Bosch one and it seemed to last much longer. I’m not sure where the relay is I’m afraid.
@@Affinity12321 Thanks. Not sure the starter is the issue actually after watching your video. I'm just getting a click. Battery is fully charged so not sure what else it could be. Thanks for responding 👍
Double check the battery connections are tight. Even take them off, clean them and put them back on really tight - sometimes even just wedging them on without doing them up can make a huge difference. Over time the start motor will need more and more power to crank the engine over, once they’re knackard then the battery isn’t powerful enough to get the starter to crank. Try the connections first. Try a jump start 2nd (to see if the extra amps helps turn it over) then decide if it’s battery or starter.
Put a jump lead from the engine block to the chassis somewhere too, it could well be the earth strap that goes from the engine to the chassis. Test with a jump lead first, if it works then you know what the problem is.
@@Affinity12321 You've just baffled me with science, lol. Someone mentioned the earth strap might be an issue. I just have to find it. I did try jump starting it but nothing happened. Not convinced the connection from the other person's negative terminal was great and he was clueless. So when you say use a jump lead from engine block to chassis, do you mean the negative one? Cheers
I’m not sure if it’s the flywheel or release bearing. There’s a rattle from the clutch when at idle until you put slight pressure on the clutch then it goes away.
What a load of crap, nothing to do with the starter. It was turning fine. Its your heater plugs. If a starter is turning it over why change it? Why the smaoke? Its heater plugs
It’s a good job you’re not the mechanic then. If you watch the video I change the starter motor and the problem was solved along with many comments on here with the same problem thanking me after them changing theirs too. If it was plugs and I changed the starter motor then I’d have still had the problem, no? Thanks for watching though, helps the algorithm 👍🏻

Great information bro I changed my on starter motors after watching this video.
Thanks for your time for us
I’m so pleased I could help!
Thanks Man ... I just did this to my Van here in Ireland ... I owe you a pint ;-)
Excellent! Pleased to be able to help. Nothing is as hard as the garages make out, having a go with some common sense can save you a heap of cash.

Doing mine today hopefully it fixes the issue
Helpful video. Only thing I would suggest is disconnecting negative from battery first, before touching positive end.
Thanks dude. I'll do mine tomorrow.
Great video thanks 👍
Great video thank you for taking the time
Thx mate!!!
Thank you so much, staggeringly helpful
Thank you! Pleased I help.
Just about to do this job, thanks for doing the vid 👍🏻 🔧
You are very welcome!
How did you get on?
Thanks , was a big help
Tienes algun vídeo como se cambia el elevalunas del mismo coche?
How long did the job take? My local garage quoted me 2 hours labour! looks simple enough

what does is mean if the starter makes one click when you turn the key, and discharges the battery simultaneously?
I’d start with getting your battery checked. If they’re no good then it can’t provide enough power to crank the engine over. If the van turns over while being jump started then even more likely that the battery isn’t any good.

@@Affinity12321 ta bud, I get to the bottom of it...cheers
Mine lasted 310.000km and gave up on a chilly morning. This tip to move the water hoses was great!
What about smoke from exhaust after you changed starter motor? Is still same?
No, it starts on the button now so no excess diesel being burnt off from attempting to start like before.
Which engine is this? 😎
It’s the 2.2 Diesel.
Do you know if the starter motor is in the same place on a 2001 peugeot boxer? Thanks.
I haven’t done one on a 2001 but all starter motors are the similar principle so have a go!

holly fucking shit. I did it, thanks to your video.
When you start the van I hear a noise/vibration/kick. My van do the same. Can it be the dual mass flywheel?
I’m not sure if it’s the flywheel or release bearing. There’s a rattle from the clutch when at idle until you put slight pressure on the clutch then it goes away.
Affinity12321 mine does that too.
I don't believe there is a dual mass on these
I believe they are. This vehicle is on its 4th clutch now, it's done over 500,000miles.
So was the starter still turning when the motor started in your vid? Was that the noise?
Struggling to understand why you changed the starter motor, starter was turning fine. Your starting issue appears fuel related.
I’m not sure if you’ve watched the video from the start to the end but it was definitely starter motor and starting on the button till this day.
What a load of crap, nothing to do with the starter.
