Yeah, Poppy switched to her new rock-ish/metal-ish style of music in the last 2-3 years. Back in 2017 she was doing "art-pop" music and back in 2104/2015 she was doing songs similar to Taylor Swift. BABYMETAL has been making fans headbang for 10 years (2010), long before Poppy uploaded her first video in 2016. Poppy has even said she aims to be like BABYMETAL.

That number has only grown over the years, with people still introducing people to BABYMETAL with it...for the inevitable WTF?! Lol. It is still a fan fav, and one of my favs as well! Lyrically its pretty simple, about a girl wanting some Chocolate. But her weight worries her, so maybe she should wait a while. But she worked hard, so maybe just a bit of chocolate? you were right about the kawaii aspect, they birthed a new genre of metal, kawaii metal, hance the name babymetal, and it's also a pun since babymetal and heavymetal look almost exactly the same when written in japanese
"Almost Kawaii" lol. They established the genre Kawaii Metal. It better be kawaii. :) This song is the most commonly reacted to for the shock-factor to Western audiences who are not used to Japanese Idol or Kawaii culture. Just about every song in their catalog is different, or highlights a different sub-genre of metal. All of them are worth checking out. The Kami Band (not shown in this video) who backs them are all world-class musicians.
The lyrics talk about girls struggling with the pressure to maintain their figures, or as Nakamoto Suzuka aka Su Metal explained, "[The lyrics of the song are] about girls and women who love to eat chocolate. But they are […] afraid about putting on weight." Their songs are quite different from each other. This song is taken from Legend 1997 concert (2013). 2 other song i recommend from this concert is - Headbanger ua-cam.com/video/QEsOaMbNFww/v-deo.html - Death ua-cam.com/video/VE34mRpi6Qk/v-deo.html The band's name is a combination of "baby" (ベビー, bebī) and "heavy metal" (ヘビーメタル, hebī metaru); Heavy metal: ヘビメタ (romaji transcription: hebimetaru) to Babymetal: ベビメタ (romaji transcription: bebimetaru). Yeah Japanese like puns. The band defines its style as a new genre called "kawaii metal" and clarifies that it is "a mix of J-pop idol and heavy metal". The band was formed in 2010, with the original lineup of Nakamoto Suzuka aka Su Metal (Vocal and Dance) (DOB Dec 20, 1997), Kikuchi Moa aka Moa Metal (Scream and Dance) (DOB July 4, 1999), and Mizuno Yui aka "Yui Metal" (Scream and Dance) (DOB Jun 20, 1999), with the concept of creating a fusion of heavy metal and Japanese idol genres. Originally a sub-unit of the Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin which also was formed at the same year, Babymetal became an independent act in 2013. The band is produced by Kobayashi Key aka "Kobametal" from the Amuse talent agency. Original concept of the band was to introduced the new generation of audience to metal music especially females. On October 19, 2018, Babymetal announced that Yui Metal had decided to leave the band due to undisclosed poor health, following her absence from live performances since December 2017. Gimme Chocolate went viral around Feb and Mar of 2014, with support of BabyMetal fans the organizer booked them for a smaller stage at Sonisphere 2014 (UK). Then online flame war ensued arguing if they are worthy to be there. The flame war grew so intense plus their sold out for The Forum, London concert tickets (7 July 2014), that the organizer bump BabyMetal to main stage by May. This is a stage where people throw bottle of piss towards bands they don't like. So when BabyMetal went on stage, they are definitely worried. After this performance, UK became their biggest market in Europe. BABYMETAL - Ijime,Dame,Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014,UK (OFFICIAL) ua-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/v-deo.html

Gimme Chocolate has somewhat of a bad reputation among many BABYMETAL fans (which in my opinion is blown totally out of proportion from their side). I think the one less than ideal aspect about the song are the very simple lyrics, especially the verses. They are (probably) what makes many first-time listeners think that BABYMETAL are just a gimmick and not to be taken seriously, which is completely wrong. The song IS very playful and you are meant to have fun with it, and so are most of their songs, but that doesn't mean that they are not to be taken seriously. Most of the lyrics have pretty strong messages, and they are often quite sophisticated. And even Gimme Chocolate's lyrics, which are about girls (?) liking chocolate but worrying about their weight, can very well be interpreted as a metaphor for social pressure. They are very unique, there's no doubt about that. But to me that's 100% a positive thing. The incredible musicianship, great vocals, energetic dancing, contagious smiles, cool stages, awesome stage presence and amazing crowd interaction make them a complete package of fun like no other. To me they are simply the epitome of entertainment. To get the full picture, please check out a real live performance with real live audio. The official music video for "Road of Resistance" would be a good choice. It's less playful than this one and more straight Metal, but the show is fantastic. If you do a video, you'd be well advised to pause a few times and maybe don't display the full video, otherwise you might run into copyright problems. ua-cam.com/video/zTEYUFgLveY/v-deo.html

BABYMETAL is one of Poppy's major influences. This song leans heavily into the 'pop' side of BM. Most of their songs are a lot more complex and the vocals are more geared to rock. This one is just a fun 'wtf' moment. Also, this is the music video, with studio audio over a live performance. Which is stupid, because they're much better live. But that's Amuse (the production company) for you. You'll come to hate them for all the copyright strikes if you continue doing BM songs.
Brave of you to react to Gimme Chocolate first.. it can be a hit or miss song for a lot of people (myself included). Yuimetal and Moametal’s vocals can be very offputting and shocking at first, especially in this song, and that shock can be enough to scare people away from the group. What I will say is that every song is different, and I hope that you guys continue the Babymetal journey because there is a lot of incredible music to discover from them.
TC - if you want the REAL OG's of the Japanese Rock and Metal scene, you need to go back to the 80s, to the likes of X-Japan, early Ningen Isu, Vow Wow, Shonen Knife and Show-Ya.
Headbanging and Pits with BABYMETAL? READ FURTHER... Glad you enjoyed this song, but no fan would ever suggest it as a first reaction because most people do it for the "WTF?!" aspect that most people have while watching it. That said, even the girls know that this happens and love that it does because it has actually caused more people to say "What else do they do?" and dive deeper into their catalogue, or down the "fox hole" as we fans call it. You do side-to-side headbanging? Funny enough, so do they! Check out their song "Headbanger" Live and Legend 1997. It's actually the same concert as this video, but the difference is the backing band. In this video, the guys in skeleton costumes (known as the "Baby Bones") are just actors pantomiming playing. In "Headbanger" it is actually their real backing band, the Kami Band, playing with them. The Kami's were phased in gradually over the first couple years as the girls were getting their feet under them and people were discovering them in Japan and Asia and it was shaking out if they would be successful or not (they weren't expected to be AT ALL!). They would typically come on during encore's, the rest of the show was backing tracks with the Baby Bones out there. You also want to see how pits works with BABYMETAL?? Check out "Road of Resistance" Live in Japan. It's an amazing performance of a song that sounds like an anthem of sorts. A couple important notes on reacting to it: First, yes it sounds like DragonForce because Herman Li and Sam Totman from DF wrote the guitar parts of the song and performed the studio version for the album. Second, it tends to get blocked a fair bit. Some UA-camr's have had success getting around that by putting the BABYMETAL logo over the video where it's translucent enough to see the video, but obscures it enough to get it by. Others have just popped it up there every little bit and blocked the video content briefly to get past, or they pause it...a lot. The other song to check out their mosh pits is "Distortion" Live at Download 2018. When the Queen wants circle pits, you give her circle pits! This one will throw you off because of a few things, which will be discussed in the comments when you get to it. Looking forward to more!
Your comment about them reminding you of Poppy is going to get a lot of Babymetal stans very angry. Babymetal has been doing this a lot longer than Poppy has and Poppy herself has cited Babymetal as someone who influenced her music. Babymetal is the band who invented this style of music.
Side to side headbanging is actually Babymetal's unique style of headbanging. Check out their live performance of Headbanger from their Legend 1997 concert to see what I mean.
I back this suggestion and guess the link may be of some use: ua-cam.com/video/QEsOaMbNFww/v-deo.html

By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too. 🦊🤘
Gimme Chocolate is certainly their most viral UA-cam video. Best? Ahem...
My opinion, hiphop fans will probably say BxMxC, conventional metalheads will probably say RONDO OF NIGTMARE, hair metallist will say AKATSUKI, technical musicians with TALES OF THE DESTINIES, dubstep likers may say UKI UKI MIDNIGHT, J-poppers may say SYNCOPATION, bollywood lovers with SHANTI SHANTI, etc etc...
Babymetal are just one of those bands that you have to see live. Here are some other songs for you. Road Of Resistance, BxMxC, Pa Pa Ya.
As for Japanese bands, there is so much tallent coming out of Japan at the moment, it's unreal. Try :
Unlucky Morpheus - Black Pentagram
The Gazette - Ugly
Fate Gear - Headless Goddess
Nemophila - Oiran
Blood Stain Child - Del-Sol
They created what we call Kawaii Metal like 10 years ago.
you were right about the kawaii aspect, they birthed a new genre of metal, kawaii metal, hance the name babymetal, and it's also a pun since babymetal and heavymetal look almost exactly the same when written in japanese
Headbanger and/or Megitsune for the true Babymetal experience. Trust us on this.
"Almost Kawaii" lol. They established the genre Kawaii Metal. It better be kawaii. :)
This song is the most commonly reacted to for the shock-factor to Western audiences who are not used to Japanese Idol or Kawaii culture. Just about every song in their catalog is different, or highlights a different sub-genre of metal. All of them are worth checking out. The Kami Band (not shown in this video) who backs them are all world-class musicians.
BABYMETAL LIVE best BABYMETAL
BABYMETAL FOREVER
10 years and still Legends
🤘🤘🤘
All hail The Fox God
The lyrics talk about girls struggling with the pressure to maintain their figures, or as Nakamoto Suzuka aka Su Metal explained, "[The lyrics of the song are] about girls and women who love to eat chocolate. But they are […] afraid about putting on weight."
Their songs are quite different from each other.
This song is taken from Legend 1997 concert (2013). 2 other song i recommend from this concert is
- Headbanger ua-cam.com/video/QEsOaMbNFww/v-deo.html
- Death ua-cam.com/video/VE34mRpi6Qk/v-deo.html
The band's name is a combination of "baby" (ベビー, bebī) and "heavy metal" (ヘビーメタル, hebī metaru); Heavy metal: ヘビメタ (romaji transcription: hebimetaru) to Babymetal: ベビメタ (romaji transcription: bebimetaru).

Good reaction! Thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL universe!
This is "just" a fun song about wanting to eat chocolate but being worried about weight. But, those instrumentals are very, very metal. Those guitars are tuned sooo low, almost on drop Hell hehe...
It's always nice o see new faces wandering around the Fox Hole. I'm glad you enjoyed your first time and hoping you do more BABYMETAL.

Good reaction... Babymetal is experimental metal music, fusion oldskul and new wave, Jpop and heavy metal, idol and band, cute and badass, tribute for Metallica (Song : DEATH), and collabs with metal musicians :
Chris Amott - Dark Tranquility, ex Arch Enemy (Ijime Dame Zettai)
Dragon Force (Road of Resistance)
Alissa White Gluz - Arch Enemy (Distortion)
Tim Henson & Scott LePage - Polyphia (Brand New Day)
F. Hero - Thai rapper (Papaya)
Tak Matsumoto - B'z guitarist (Da Da Dance)
Joakim Broden - Sabaton (Oh Majinai)
And collabs live perform Chthonic, Rob Halford (Judas Priest), RHCP, KORN...
Next i hope you can react to Babymetal

React to more BabyMetal songs. I'm not recommending any song, because whatever song you choose it'll be awesome😁 Make sure to watch their live performances, it's the best. I started listening to BabyMetal songs after Kingslayer. And now I'm a BabyMetal addict. I learned most of their stories within a short span of time, that much I got into them. Metal Goddess Queen Su 😍 Moa😍 Missing Yui 😟❤️Kami band🔥🦊 Fox God 🤘 #notacult
Babymetal Ijime Dame Zettai next😎🤟🏼
Brave of you to react to Gimme Chocolate first.. it can be a hit or miss song for a lot of people (myself included). Yuimetal and Moametal’s vocals can be very offputting and shocking at first, especially in this song, and that shock can be enough to scare people away from the group. What I will say is that every song is different, and I hope that you guys continue the Babymetal journey because there is a lot of incredible music to discover from them.
Please check out headbanger 1997 live by babymetal
as cute but imho crazier; Awadama Fever

Check there new album new stuff, if you don't like the old stuff..
headbanger live. and road of resistance live are better. dave from the uk
Your comment about them reminding you of Poppy is going to get a lot of Babymetal stans very angry. Babymetal has been doing this a lot longer than Poppy has and Poppy herself has cited Babymetal as someone who influenced her music. Babymetal is the band who invented this style of music.
This song is a bit controvertial, its right in the middle of their transition from idol group to metal.
Love the react! My Fav. KARATE, but all of them are really good
