Shrek the Musical is a musical with music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. It is based on the 2001 DreamWorks Animation film Shrek, along with elements of its sequels: Shrek 2, Shrek Forever After and William Steig's 1990 book Shrek!. 3:22 "And carry her away" gives me chills all the time, so goooddd
I so love Donkey's lyrics. So much friendship for Shrek
1:38 this perfectly timed voice break is what cements this as my favorite version of shrek
It’s so good! I keep replaying it!!
You don't have to dream of being a hero, Shrek...you are one. 🤗🥰
Yes so shrexy
I’ve watched this musical too many times, but not enough
my favorite song in this musical i cant.
2:52 My favorite part of the musical.
I played this pit for a big local production of this, I had a blast playing trumpet!
One of my absolute favorite musicals. This cast was perfect!! So glad Netflix picked it up a few years ago and its getting new attention almost 10 years later 🙌🏿🙌🏿
You said it
I love that they gave him bushy eyebrows as Brian has those. A little bit of Brian showing through 2:09
I would sit on nails as long as I could listen to brian sing.
I listen to this song all the time, I swear this video is both slightly sped up and has distorted audio
It definitely is sped up cause on the album you can hear Brian D’arcy James rich baritone voice and here he seems to have the brightness and lightness of a tenor voice
i swear to god i cry every time i hear this song
I do too!! I'm weeping right now!!
I'm incredibly excited to be doing Shrek Jr. (especially since I'm playing Shrek), but I'm a little upset that this song was removed from the Jr. version, as i think it adds so much to Shrek's character. It's also just a really good song.
ARE YOU FR? ITS THE BEST SONG IN THE WHOLE MUSICAL 😭😭😭
My favorite song from this musical ❤❤❤❤❤
Is the fourth one I love Shrek musical and I've watched it about 14 times
I love this song, it gives so much depth to Shrek.
God, I hate the studio version of this, I wish the live version was on spotify!
Imagine how much more significant this song would have felt if Shrek didn't actually sing because his characterization as a grump who doesn't go along with the genre was kept intact until this moment.
I personally think its better like this, mainly bc the point is he's opening up or letting go of that grumpiness to tell his dreams
Love that idea tho

Shrek: the talkical
@@idontdovarioustasks
Are you suggesting a play or like a play where the characters are talking with music playing in the background where the characters don’t actually sing the songs?
i can't stop replaying 2:52
If Shrek hadn’t sung in Act 1 until now, this would’ve been better
I 😂❤
1:32
Its a shame that this song isn't in Shrek the Musical Jr.
Why would they skip this song
@@pink-a-palouza7888 I guess they want to shorten it.
@@pink-a-palouza7888I think it's mainly because if you compare it to other songs like I know It's Today and Forever, Who I'd Be is not AS essential to the plot as those other ones (as in, it can be cut from the musical with little consequences). If I know It's Today and Forever were cut, we wouldn't get to see Fiona or the dragon's key characteristics and motives, and the story wouldn't make sense anymore. Meanwhile with Shrek, we can still understand his character without Who I'd Be, even if it's more simple than in the full version.
😂😂😂
Shame you can’t really hear the majestic brass fanfares! But other than that, a beautiful version of this powerhouse act one closing number.
I don't know if I should be impressed by the cosplay or laugh(not in a bad way). I'm having mixed feelings
Cosplay?
It's not cosplay if it's live theater, dude. It's just a costume.
@@Allycat-VA182Someone who doesn't know the difference between Comic Con and live theater, apparently.
@@etcetera1995 It's laughable
Shrek singing about him being a hero is the most UnShrekiest thing I could imagine.
hes singing about WANTING to be a hero
If you watched the full musical, you would understand
Let's explore that claim.
Shrek never wanted to be the bad guy he was forced into that life by a prejudiced society.
As an ogre he is destined to be the bad guy, it makes sense that the alternative would seem so attractive.
you... you didn't watch shrek 2 right?
Not so shrexy of him
The only good song in the musical lmao
I thought morning person was pretty good
honestly all the songs are really good, some of them just don’t compare to others. like the opening title is probably my favorite just cause of shrek’s run at the end
Bull. This whole musical is beautiful
Agreed
@kaiumeda6341 wrong. This whole show is beautiful
