@@DeathnoteBB Teen Fiona could be meant to be a preteen. Theaters usually cast kids a little older than what they actually what them to be for reasons involving rehearsal, what children can actually handle, and skill. So, if you see a teenager on the stage, they are often meant to be a little younger. So, if we assume that Fiona is an older 7 year old and hits her 8th birthday a month or two after the tower, and round 2.7 years to 3 years, then that puts the second actor around 11 years old. Which… actually would make a bit of sense. 11 is a tricky age for child actors, so the director probably just went for a skilled teen actor, figured no one would do the math anyway, and called it good enough. Basically, usually when a script calls for a non-main character to be a preteen, it’s probably going to be a teenager. Or even an adult that can pass for a teenager. Might not always be very authentic, but authenticity doesn’t matter if your child actor gets overwhelmed and quits in the middle of tech week. You’d be surprised how hard these rehearsals can be on little kids - no matter how experienced. Having a teen or adult play the role is less risky and healthier. That first girl probably didn’t go to as many rehearsals or left early a lot of the time. She likely had someone checking in on her frequently and a parent backstage during rehearsals. Also, children need separate dressing rooms and a very different approach to rehearsals. Also, if the play goes on tour they have to set up education for any kids and bring parents. It’s a whole thing.
