    Coil Whine
    1. Power supply Platinum rated PSU more likely to have whine also use use higher watt ratings. Please comment what PSU and rating.
    NOTE: Big differences in price points might be greed; Asus isn't being greedy, this is indeed good value! Nvidia is involved in the higher cost.
    2. There is a physical GPU switch OC mode and regular performance, system needs reboot for effect.
    3. Easiest methods to reduce whine:
    a. Set a "Max Frame Rate" this reduces fps spikes which reduces whine"
    b. Set Max power limit a little lower to like 90% to get some noise reduction with very little fps change
    Notes:
    Platinum PSUs tend to have less power filtering to achieve their rating. Higher rated PSUs have larger Capacitors that should do a bit better for filtering larger loads to reduce whine.
    12 pin power had melting issues on initial launch and low margin products aren't likely going to risk a connection that adds extra cost on a new not mature connection type.

      Nvidia charges the huge price so yes it is cheap by the standards of what is left after Nvidia takes their HUGE cut. This is one of the cheapest 4070 cards which means likely the cheapest components.
      The problem with the prices is everyone keeps buying the overpriced cards and that tells Nvidia it's okay and AMD also increased their GPU prices as a result to make more profits.

      I understand the point, but the logic of this is a bit off, if they were just charging a premium and overpricing everything with complete disregard for the unit cost then it would be impossible to know the relative quality of components used one way or another. Instead of just saying "likely the cheapest components" what are the actual differences between this card and a more expensive one components wise?

    I just swapped an older GTX 980 to the RTX 4070 non OC card. Totally worth it! Smooth card, great for Adobe software stuff. If you're upgrading older hardware, the value is definitely there. If you are upgrading newer hardware, probably not worth it. My power supply is a Corsair RM850 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply. Good power supply with plenty of headroom. The card has very cool temps around 36*C - 45*C. Not too noisy either.

    Odpowiedź Wsparcia Technicznego
    Szanowny Kliencie ASUS,

    • @sparketech

      Thank you for your message, translated to English:
      "Technical Support Response
      Dear ASUS customer,
      We kindly inform you that electric current flowing through electrical and electronic devices produces sounds of varying intensity. This phenomenon most often occurs when the resonant frequency of the coil turns is close to the resonant frequency of the electronic system. Very often it concerns coils placed in graphics cards, motherboards, power supplies - it is not a defect but a feature of the product"
      This is a truthful response from Asus. Resonant frequency can be corrected but PC are not custom made with a certain PSU and motherboard and CPU in mind. To correct would require correcting after purchase and would require a more expensive solution with capacitors custom fit to the load with variable banks turned on and off with the load. Expensive? Yes, in a price sensitive environment like the PC it makes little sense.
      Easiest way to reduce coil whine is to use Nvidia control panel lock a max FPS to reduce peaks. Under setting "Max Frame Rate"
      Other easy method is to Reduce power limit by 8-10% should make a "Fair" difference with little change to performance.
      I still use this GPU, and the fan noise is on the very silent side and runs cool

    thats actually crazy because I had the 6750xt dual oc from asus a while back and it had the EXACT same coil whine issue. its funny seeing it pop up again on another asus oc card (maybe dual fan design is an issue too)
    interestingly rnough when i went to return it the store rep said a bunch of people complained about the same thing and saw it on reddit as well (amd platform users also would have the gpu crash in games myself included).
    long comment but i hope it helps someone out knowing that the coil whine may be a dual oc asus card pattern.

    • @sparketech
      @sparketech  Рік тому +4

      The issue is component use not how many fans or how large or small the card is. I should have made it more clear the 3 fan edition is the Asus higher end card that costs a fair bit more. In my 3rd year electrical training we discussed the matter of coil whine which can be completely stopped with sealing the coils without air gaps in a strong resin. I purchased some resin so I might in the next months or 2 rip the card apart and I got a thermal interface pad that works better than thermal paste that is meant to last for life; very expensive stuff.
      better coils would mean higher cost and solve the issue. These Asus dual cards are the cheapest models which means cheapest components.
      If this Asus cards are similar to the Founders edition the coils would be housed in solid cover shell 😳

      If people want less coil whine the 4070ti Super 3 fan design is better. Some people do worry too much... People like me enjoy near total silence. This OC card isn't going to get you 2 to 6fps more in OC mode try 0.5 to maybe at best 1fpa more. It is only. 30hz overclock of core speed only.

But in real world comparisons it got on average 2 to 6 fps more then any other dual fan gpu on the market from sites that test them. Again though not the evo model that has smaller fans aka 90s not 100s like the normal dual does. It also utilizes older fins they need to get rid of so they threw those on. Luckily none of that is on the none evo edition. I hate how sneaky asus is with that stuff. So anybody buying a dual should always get the none evo oc edition. Not the evo!

      I might one day tear the card apart to stop the coil whine. I learned about such things when doing my year 3 electrical and how to solve the issue. It is high frequency vibration. The key is to make those wire coils solid and avoid any air gaps to stop the vibrations. I don't want to return my card after I already returned the RX6800 but if I would have known I'd of either tried the MSI RTX4070 GAMING X TRIO. "No Coil Whine" mode shows you it's going to restrict power to 50%, it shows it right there in the software you used. Obviously that's going to drastically reduce the performance of the card. Makes more sense to just manually drop the power target to maybe 90 or 95% to reduce coil whine. Or reduce max FPS in windows global settings (nvidia control panel) to something reasonable, maybe 240fps or something.

    • @sparketech
      @sparketech  9 місяців тому

      Restrict power a bit for sure helps. The FPS locked to 240fps wouldn't help here whatsoever. My fps maxed around around 170fps if I remember correctly. But locking fps when at higher fps certainly helps. Removing fluctuating fps smooths the power draw and removes most coil whine in the process.

    *I bought this card...*
    After more research I decided it SHOULD be a good card. I bought it and have ZERO issues. I leave the fan switch to "Silent Mode" and haven't heard coil whine yet. My performance is barely below maximum (Silent Mode has the Power Draw at 90% by default but it doesn't drop the FPS by more than a few percent). Also, I cap the FPS below the average it can hit because NOISE matters most to me and my PC is pretty much SILENT most of the time. There's a HUGE difference in fan noise by capping a card to 80FPS if it's averaging 90FPS uncapped. (BTW, I have a global FPS cap set to 250FPS in NVidia Control Panel to avoid those high-FPS loading screens you get in games that are highly prone to coil whine. But again, no whine that I can hear at any time.) Anyway, I started God of War which can hit 120FPS average but I had capped to 60FPS because my room right now gets HOT. The GPU fans were not even spinning at first.

Coil Whine is influenced by the power supply used, so how bad it is depends on your power supply and how noticeable it is depends on your fan noise, my computer is nearly completely silent when gaming so for me it is 100% noticeable. 2) I modded my EVGA GTX1080 and that made my coil whine much WORSE. Doing so for an Asus RTX4070 may or may not make a difference to coil whine. BUT... I fixed my coil whine by moving the 2nd fan (not sitting directly over the GPU processor) connector to the MOTHERBOARD and then I used "FANCONTROL" software to control that Noctua fan based on the GPU (not CPU) temperature. My Noctua fans are pretty much silent when gaming with a carefully tweaked fan profile (I ramp up LATE so the fans still only spin at 40% max at 76degC, and then I ramp up sharply after that to address any worst-case... STOP running GPU fans higher than needed simply to keep GPU temps low. That helps performance by maybe 2% max or whatever and won't prolong the life of the card. If you're running at 1500RPM to hit 65degC then go educate yourself. Get it to something like 800RPM at 80degC or whatever is optimal for your GPU max temp)

      Every 4070 is within 3-5 frames of each other, so "better" isn't even relative when we're talking about framerates this high. You literally won't notice the difference, so just get the one that matches your price and aesthetic preferences. There's no point in paying $70 for 3-5 frames per second. The Dual was middle of the line regardless, so it's even less difference considering this is priced at the bottom of the stack outside FE. My Dual doesn't have coil whine for the record, or my case has enough sound dampening that I can't hear it regardless. These "problems" can be fixed by putting on headphones or using a box fan in your room.

    • @sparketech
      @sparketech  Рік тому

      Unlikely to damage the card unless your power supply isn't good enough. Use the Q mode switch to reduce the coil whine and the fan noise when gaming makes the coil whine less obvious. The power supply can make a difference for coil whine. Sadly all power supplies themselves appear to have some coil whine but some have more than others and sometimes it is luck of the draw. This card likely would have little to no coil whine IF the card had Two 8 pin connectors (or 2 six pin) for power.

      I discussed this in my discord chat with someone else that had an Intel system till I found there are 2 or 3 voltages that have to be boosted in regards to the CPU in order to have a stable system... Which caused a big stink on the internet about Intel voiding CPU warranty when running overclocked memory since it requires boosting voltages, temps and possibly reducing CPU life span.

      Not sure if that'll be any better. The power supply used in your computer and the power connector on the GPU effects the coil whine. if you want reduced whine you are going to get a GPU with more than 8 pin connector, like a 12 pin option. Also the OC mode is going to have more coil whine, the more you saturate the power connector the worse it is.
      Otherwise other solutions are locking down the max FPS. Lowing power draw to the GPU to name a few.

      The 7800 gives the best performance to power draw being 8 cores. The 5700 is most efficient using the old B550 but be careful because there is zero upgrade path for B550.
      The newer B650 boards are finally getting better bios support and you'd want to immediately update the bios. The B650 CPUs are about 15% faster for gaming. I didn't think the 7600 non X draws more power, I'll have to check this. The 7600x draws crazy power for little performance difference

      Bottlenecks are overblown, the issue only pops its head up at 1080p, 1440p and 4k have less and less bottleneck issues....the higher resolution the less of a problem it is, that being said if you are gaming at 1080p then the 5600 is more than plenty unless you need your games to have 400fps instead of 200....in most scenarios cpu bottlenecks don't really matter too much unless you are pairing a 10-15 year old cpu with a brand new GPU.

      tf? Don't understand... Reduced coil whine with zero loss in performance would be dual power adapters or the new 12 pin. The issue is power through a single rail. The next issue that can be controlled at the user level is the Power supply, it appears platinum rated is more likely to have coil whine due to less power filtering causing more ripple into the GPU... which goes back to the GPU having more power connection reduces the whine. Oddly a cheaper power supply that is silver rated might actually be better at preventing coil whine all together.
