    HEADS UP. This video was recorded before the current ASUS drama. It doesn't really change anything about this video nor this particular product, but I know some of you will ask so here goes:
    My take is simple: Everyone makes mistakes, but ASUS really handled this one badly and they absolutely deserve some flak. It's disappointing that time after time big brands keep trying to hide issues rather than just own up to them and try to do better. But I'm not going to blacklist them and pretend their products don't exist, because with that reasoning almost every big brand (including MSI and Gigabyte here) could be blacklisted for handling mistakes poorly at some point as well. So I'll continue to keep my videos focussed on the products... and Lego 🥰. Enjoy!

      Sorry, by current internet standards, this reply is far too reasonable, rational and dare I say it...adult! :) On a serious note, a good reply to a real foul up by ASUS, without going "over the top". I think ASUS is going to get punished by consumers for a while. I hope ASUS and other companies can learn a valuable lesson, and keep a real focus on keeping consumers happy by providing the best possible hardware and support.

    I've used the Gigabyte Windforce cards for year's and have never had a problem with any of them. I have the new 4070, 3080, 2080 and a white 2070 Super and they have worked perfectly. They even gave me a 4th year on my warranty on my 3080 for registering it online. They make great products. Plus the new 4070 Windforce looks great with my ASUS Creator motherboard on my 5900x workstation. Plus decoding video with Handbrake works even better with the 4070 over my older 2080. I highly recommend these card's. I love ASUS as well, I try to always use their motherboards. But they had the recent quality issues with the Ryzen 7000 series processor's and boards. I almost got the ASUS 4070 Dual until that happened. Great video as always.

    Thank you for this comparison/review! This was exactly what I was waiting for when the RTX 4070 was released, as these lower-tier models are the only ones usually available and ones that fit my budget (the Gigabyte Windforce OC in particular, since that was what was readily available from a local trusted retailer). I did eventually bite the bullet a few weeks back and got the Windforce OC, and though some other reviews I found didn't really praise it, the noise and thermals seem fine by me.

      One thing the Windforce has going for it that Asus Dual doesn't, the backplate has a squarish cutout so the 3rd fan can blow hot air away from the gpu, I think this is why it has the best temps of the 3 cards here.

I decided on a Lian Li Q58 with the Gigabyte card in this video and just finished the build. Wish I'd seen this first because the Gigabyte being "only slightly" thicker isn't ideal. If I were to go back to the H210, I'd definitely try to get the thinner card.

It is often much easier to catch the 'budget' variants on better sales also. Okay a few points regarding the RTX 4070 somehow being a "terrible deal"..
    1.) The RTX 4070 cost $599.99 and is OBVIOUSLY optimally utilized via a 1440p monitor NOT "4K" and certainly not "4K max settings w/ ray tracing" GPU, this is a "mid-tier" GPU - It you want "top-tier" performance there is the RTX 4080 / 4090 which cost well over 1K so it is NOT rational to expect even remotely comparable performance for a GPU that cost 1/2 + the cost of a "top tier" GPU.
    2.) Prices like it or not don't remain STATIC indefinitely - this is just a fact of how markets work, so this notion that the RTX 4070 is "overpriced" because in the past you got this % gain in "rasterization performance" vs. "X" GPU isn't really a rational argument and ignores many other variables.
    3.) The RTX 4070 represents a ~ 30% rasterization performance leap vs. the RTX 3070 - 8 vs. 12GB VRAM - AV1 encoding - Far superior power efficiency/ ray tracing / DLSS / etc.
    4.) Believe it or not GPU's aren't made for JUST 'gaming" - Nvidia basically has a monopoly here as it offers GPU's that work FAR better in general when it comes to production work, etc. There is "value" here like it not.
    Finally, when you factor in ALL relevant variables, the RTX 4070 is simply NOT a "terrible deal" so the asking price of $599.99 isn't "out of line". I think the over the top commentary over the RTX 4070 somehow being a "rip off" is a perfect example of the "Bandwagon Effect" warping reality.
    Of course this comment will be unpopular because people generally want something for nothing but sorry reality doesn't support this notion that the RTX 4070 is "overpriced" - it's simply not. The amount of blowback the RTX 4070 has been getting is simply bizarre / makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. You don't have to "love it" but it's not a "terrible deal".

    • @TechTesters
      @TechTesters  Рік тому +3

      "There is value here, like it or not" is a good summary :P

    • @lkz
      @lkz Рік тому

      The issue is that each model down is cut down more and more to not endanger the incredibly expensive halo cards, and to not be too interesting for commercial customers who are also expected to pay ridiculous prices.
      If you take Pascal: a 1060 6gb, 1070, 1080, 1080 ti all aged in a similar way. Only the 3gb 1060 is absolutely useless some years down the road.
      The Ada cards are specced so that you "have to" replace them much sooner due to just having insufficient VRAM, plus the cuts to memory bandwidth are pretty steep too. The 4080 has ok VRAM but a crazy price, while anything below will age poorly.
      I'm writing this as someone who is pretty likely to buy one, in the expectation that the 16GB 4060 will be either too slow or too expensive by comparison, and the 4070 Super refresh or 50x0 is too far off.
      (Can't buy AMD because I'm vendor-locked by GSync.)

    • @erickelly4107
      @erickelly4107 Рік тому

      @@lkz The performance tier of the GPU's with 12GB's of VRAM isn't so high that VRAM should be an issue so dire that it makes the cards a "terrible deal" even if some AAA titles in the coming years force the owners of these GPU's to make "compromises" here and there like lowering the settings, using DLSS and so on. Also game developers can and should better "optimize" their games to run better on lower spec'd hardware.
      There are always "compromises" one has to make when it comes to gaming on hardware that isn't the "top of the line" and newer games will naturally require more powerful hardware for the best possible performance. Not being able to "max out" every single game on a "mid-range" GPU doesn't somehow by default make the GPU a "rip off".
      Also, I think this notion that a "mid-range" GPU having "just" 12GB of VRAM being such a catastrophe is unfounded and massively overexaggerated. I'm not saying no AAA game in the future will present an "issue" here but at the same time it's not likely to be an issue so dire as to make these 12GB mid-range GPU' "absolute crap" as so many reviewers have been making them out to be.
      Now if a GPU like the RTX 4080 and above came equipped with 12GB of VRAM this would be an issue seeing as these cards can justify having 16GB+ VRAM giving the performance and associated cost of these GPU's.
      On the contrary, one who spends just 1/2 the cost or less on a GPU shouldn't expect to see performance really even remotely comparable. Sure people would naturally like to but this is unfortunately not how things work.
      Lastly, the price per performance matrix has only improved going from the RTX 4080 > 4070Ti > 4070 > 4060Ti > 4060 and yet the "outrage" has only gotten worse.. It's quite bizarre IMO.
      Now Nvidia did screw up by not just giving BOTH the RTX 4060 / 4060Ti 12GB of VRAM - Giving the 4060Ti 16GB makes no sense and 8GB is actually "boarder line" when it comes to this performance tier.

    Just a heads-up, a nit-pick with the GIGABYTE card is that practically all 30/40 series GIGABYTE GPUs have PCB cracking issues if you have sag. A crack will form on the PCB and completely kill the card rendering it unusable and GIGABYTE are refusing to RMA said cards which is very scummy especially considering it's a fault in them using low-quality PCBs. It's all over the internet if you look for it, if you currently own a GIGABYTE 30/40 series card, PLEASE make sure you eliminate that sag by using a bracket or holder of some sorts, otherwise your card is eventually going to kick the bucket.

      I've also specifically asked that the Quiet mode works identically.

The EU average is .28/kWh, so a 10W difference *at full load* (the difference between the ASUS and the MSI) equates to EU2.80 over 1000 hours of gaming, or roughly 20 hours/week for a year.
