My old br8 was giving me troubles with zip drives so I ended up giving the lot away, I was really looking forward to purchasing one of these only to find out they are discontinued!!! So ended up with a zoom r20 instead. I miss the old boss features like punch in and out and stuff. But I only use the zoom to put ideas down and import tracks onto the DAW these days.
Hi Funky James! Let me see if I understand what you want to do. You have an audio file on a Mac computer. You want this on the BR-800 (maybe to jam along with.) I do this all the time. I usually plug in the USB cable. You need the USB driver. This might work.. www.boss.info/global/support/by_product/br-800/updates_drivers/ed330ece-f61d-4020-a207-ad8f808849e7/ More in a moment.....
Then set the sound output on the Mac to go to the BR-800. Set the Input Source to be USB on the BR-800. Record on the BR-800, and play the music on the Mac. The music is almost certainly in stereo, so it is best to record on a stereo track or a stereo pair like Track 1/2. You CAN set to record in mono if you really want. More to follow.... Actually I feel a little video might help.
You can play the music on the Mac with anything. I use the Music app most of the time, but Quicktime will do. My Mac is getting a bit awkward about recording sound from Safari, like UA-cam. It glitches a bit. I think that might be deliberate by Apple.
Here is another way. If you can export the file as a WAV file, transfer it to the SKETCH folder (use USB BACKUP to connect the Mac to the BR-800.) Then Track, Edit, Import Song Sketch. The USB file transfer is pretty slow, so be patient. It works brilliantly. Again, remember that a WAV file is stereo. Best to rename it to only 8 characters long too.
Mine doesn't, but let me think. PC means Windows? I have a Mac but I expect there is an equivalent in Microsoft. Couple of ideas. When there is a guitar cable attached but not connected to a guitar, the input picks up static from carpets and so on. Headphones attached to the BR-800? What sort of connector? Is there a switch on the cable? I found dodgy connections with adapters. Is this feedback? Microphone on the PC picking up sound from speakers attached to the BR-800? Is sound received on the PC being sent back to the BR-800? USB driver installed properly? Dodgy cable? Do you have a different one to try? My Mac only has USB-C connections so I have to use an adapter to the cable, but that seems OK. Maybe your adapter is rubbish. Type C ones can be turned upside down. Try that. Is it the BR-800 that makes the noise or the PC? Is the PC broadcasting noise from its inbuilt-microphone though the USB cable? There are so many things to think about. Give me a bit more information and I will try to reproduce the problem.
pencil hack immensely helpful
Might work on other things that have recessed screw holes too.
Awesome! I Will use some of them, for sure!
Very good tips. Some are funny aswell. You are a very creative person. Thanks for posting these hacks.

And if you can't get a USB driver to work, import via an audio cable and use LINE in as the input source. That's not the best way though.
Hello friend, how are you? My Boss BR800 makes a lot of noise when connected to USB on my PC, do you know how to eliminate the noise?

Great hacks, cheers Andy.
