2:28 in this video was when I became a Vikings fan. I was watching cartoons as a 6 year old. Something happened to the tv and I changed channels and this was on. Randy caught that pass and weaved his way around 3-4 guys. From that point on a was hooked to football. Love Randy and all he did for us.
Cunningham regressed for a few reasons in 99: the biggest probably being the departure of Brian Billick. Teams started playing a lot more zone however because they studied the Vikings offense in the offseason. They were afraid to blitz Cunningham the year before because he would just lob it to Moss, but after forcing him to make quicker reads without blitzing, he wasn't the same.
O I remember this game.. Vikes went all boom boom the first quarter and the offense took the bus home after that. NFL had to send them a memo that the game is played for 60 mins, not 15 mins 😂😂😂
I would put that on their new OC at the time Ray Sherman. Sherman was intent on making the offense a west coast style offense, The offense and especially Randall Cunningham struggled with it, when George was made the starter Dennis Green dusted off Brian Billicks old playbooks and the offense became explosive again. This was Shermans only season with the Vikings, was let go after the playoff loss to the Rams.
In the 6 games against Tampa from 1998-2000. The point totals were the same. And the home team won every game. 1998: Vikings win by 24 1998: Bucs win by 3 1999: Vikings win by 7 1999: Bucs win by 7 2000: Vikings win by 7 2000: Bucs win by 28
I know it may not seem like it in this game, but Cunningham wasn't the same in 99. When George came in, all he had to do was chuck it deep. They were 2-4 With Cunningham in 99 correct? And 8-2 with George? I wonder what their record would've been if George started the full season.
Jeff George was great for us in '99. I was hoping he would re-sign but apparently there was a money dispute and they decide to go with Daunte. George had a cannon!
Dennis Green was also trying to get Dan Marino for the 2000 season, Dan seriously considered the offer but ultimately opted to retire because he didn't think his knees could hold up in the North (at that time NFC Central). Dan Marino as QB of the Vikings with Moss Carter and Reed, imagine that, wish it happened.
@@Skazellino It would've been insane With Marino, Moss, Carter and Smith. But Daunte was great in 2000. I wish they would've had a defense during that era.
I mean I’d argue you could see it in this game even. We go up 21-0 early in the 2nd and did absolutely nothing the rest of the way, having to withstand two late TB potential game tying drives.

Thank you for the upload, I hadn't seen the first two Moss TD's before

This is in addition to the fact that, since he was older, Cunningham was less likely to run

These highlights don't really show it, but the Vikings did so much dink and dunk in 1999 until much later in the year. It was so frustrating.
Yea sadly Cunningham lost the magic in the offseason and when given the chance Jeff George came out firing and saved our season.
@@Skazellino Cunningham didn't lose the magic. The OC was an absolute joke in the early going of the 99 season.

Vikes should have won the road game in 1998.. Dunn and Alstott gashed Vikes rush defense too much otherwise it would have been a perfect season.

Yea Daunte did really good in 2000 but maybe with Dan we could have gotten a couple more wins and had that NFC Championship game at home.
