  • In this episode we cover what a Tyranid invasion ACTUALLY looks like from the perspective of an Imperial Governor named "Poor Stooge" and his planet of "Megaded". Each phase gets worse and worse and we will break down all of them.
We also cover why every faction fears the Tyranids, how they could be the end of everything as we know it, and why they really want to have Guilliman for lunch. Literally.

Funnfact. Both chaos and tyranids tries to invade catachan. My favourite bit of Nid lore is that Genestealer Cults sell the belief that the fleet is a sort of messiah coming to liberate them from the Imperium's tyranny. Tzeentch, at least, feels conflicted about the Tyranids. Because, on one hand, here is a race of creatures who CONSTANTLY change and improve for WHATEVER they go after.

the new Tyranid lore that came along with 10th Edition and the Leviathan book is insane. Whole segmentum gets sandwiched between 2 new tendrils of Hive Fleet Leviathan, one from above and one from below the galactic plane. A couple of Imperial ships manage to escape by the skin of their teeth and get far back to one of the main worlds where Lord Solar Leontus happens to be, they get word to him just as the Shadow In The Warp begins to fall onto the planet and Lord Solar rushes to Terra to muster a defense force (which costs his Navigator and Astropaths their lives). They create the "Solblades", rapid strike forces consisting of Space Marines, Custodes, Sorroitas and whatever other forces they can get, and they start hit and run attacks on the 2 tendrils while evacuating less defensible planets and fortifying the stronghold worlds. This works well for a while until a THIRD tendril comes rocking up and gets to the main core planet in the sector they're defending. This place is a fortress beyond measure, there's an asteroid ring full of ships and battlestations and even the Imperial Fists' space station fortress, the bugs force their way through, there's even a VERY graphic description of the crew of one of these stations being digested alive when a massive hive ship just swallows the entire station. On the ground they hit SO hard, but Leontus and the Captain general of the Custodes are holding out, until a trio of Norn Emissaries show up, one wrecks a major command station but the last living guy insdie blows the place up and kills it, another tears a hole in a defensive line after going up against 20 Dreadnoughts by itself before fleeing (after killing most of said Dreadnoughts). The third one sneaks up to the mountain top above the fortress, waits for Leontus and his half-mile long retinue of guards and attendants to come into the courtyard as he makes his rounds directing and inspiring his troops, and leaps down onto them and is only blasted aside by a Custodian gunship mere feet from crashing down onto Leontus. It STILL manages to smash Leontus' retinue to a pulp, tear said gunship out of the sky and kill most of the Custodians that it dropped off before Captain General Trajann Valorus deals a killing blow to it, the 2 leaders BARELY survived this. At this point the tide seems to be turning, the Imperials are driving back the Tyranids. Then the story cuts to a Solblade led by a Raven Guard Shadow Captain, who is caleld to the bridge of his ship and the navigator points him to the viewscreen, coming into view between them and the core fortress planet, is what at first seems to be a moon, but the Captain is confused for a moment as his carts show no moons in that area, and then he sees it begin to move, and writhe. It's not a moon, it's the biggest Tyranid organism ever seen and it's heading for the planet.

in one book, i think it's one of the ravenor ones iirc - baseline humans (albeit of the inquisitorial type) encounter ONE tyranid. ONE*. and you see them from a normal-ish human perspective, and its like having to fight a fucking xenomorph. it's bigger than them, it's got all the tyranid gnarliness, its faster than them, its absolute nightmare fuel.

Eg, battle with necrons vs tynarids.
The current 4th tyranic war has already began. And the high lord of terra, lord Liantus managed to repel 3 hive fleet tendrils. Barely. He made the tyranids so angry, they sent a norm emissary to kill him. The norn emissary killed 6 custodians on its own.

Or 10000 years, or 100000 years. We have no way of knowing when or if we were safe when the enemy comes from far outside the galaxy and we can't leave that Galaxy

I could see a movie doing that. Except it would need to have scenes with the tyran. But you wouldn't be able to understand what they're saying. It would just be hisses clicks gravely roars and body motions. You'd have to interpret from their body language what they are trying to say. But given the setting of the movie, it would be obvious that they were just talking about IG Troop movement, gaunt supply production, and of couse, the location of more biomass. But it would be done in such a weird esoteric way. Only the most dedicated fans of Tyranid army would be able To interpret. Like the scene in the first jurassic park movie when the raptors were communicating with each other. If that's the way I see these bugs behaving when they don't have access to the psychic link network. They are reduced to a permit of state. But as soon as they have that link, they become as intelligent as the average imperial guard soldier. Which isn't much but better than just being an idiot bug

      1. It can't actually be confirmed since the Nids aren't talking.

If they aren't around a 'Overlord' style unit they slowly loose moral, and when they hit zero moral they become a natural mob. As when not around the hive itself, or a strong enough connection to it the smaller units actually do loose connection and then fall back on instinct.

The swarmlord is essentially 682 Every time that it's killed when it gets reborn. It has all the memories It accumulated over its last time alive. So it not only remembers what killed it it also marks it for death. And also the swarm Lord has been around for a very long time. It has the accumulated knowledge of countless battles, not even taking place within the milky way galaxy, but possibly a different galaxy that the tyrant is came from. Its intelligence is to the point where not even the most intelligent life form in our galaxy can possibly communicate with it. It shows an understanding of emotion and how to use it against other creatures. And the supreme understanding of mass battlefield tactics. Even the emissaries bow and acquiesce to its commands.
If there is a representation of what the swarm is. It has to be the Swarm lord itself. A living icon of infinite combat knowledge Able to appear at any time wherever it is needed and take full control Without a single piece of effort. Commanding countless millions of insect soldiers, weaponry and living battle machines just with a simple essence of a thought. Well at the same time bodying space marines left and right like it's a Competition sport. If trying to see if they can chuck the next one farther than they chucked the last. Because it has been shown to actually revel in the aspect of malicious behavior In times of victory. Actually, showing an aspect that could be considered similar to a emotion that we humans would understand. Enjoying the defeat of your enemy. No other tyranid hive tyrant has ever shown this behavior.
So it does not Bode well for humanity. That the tyranid have decided to make something that is equal to the human commanders in terms of not only its intelligence but also it's behavior and understanding of human emotion.

The fact that death watch has access to so many different kinds of these rounds is what allows them to be so effective. If they just kept using standard type a eventually, the tyrants would develop a way to defend against. So they also have type b type c all the way to type g.
