My favourite grey knight is Castellen Crowe. He’s a grey knight (believe it or not) and he has literally a near chaos demi god as a sword. I gatdam love the Deathwatch. They're the single coolest group of Space Marines there is. There are so many things about them I love that it couldn't fit into a reasonably-sized comment. Highlights include: - Their starting lineup was comprised of Traitor Legion loyalists (something they share with the GK) - Their members are taken from chapters across the Imperium (though I forget if they're volunteers or a tithe system) - They're the single most practical, pragmatic SMs in the Imperium Their induction process begins with strapping the new member into a VR system where they're forced to watch their chapter get slaughtered *specifically* because of that chapter's hangups, *repeatedly* until the point is made. To repeat, they PURGE SMs of their Chapter's flaws. Black Templars learn to be snipers. Raven Guard learn CQB. Space Wolves learn patience. Blood Angels learn to take cover. They learn everything there is to know about 'Nids, Orks, Eldar, Tau, Hrud and every Xeno the Imperium knows about. They're as monstrously effective against Xenos as the GK are against Daemons. They become flawless, omniskilled generalists capable of doing any job competently and *still* retaining their strengths. I love Deathwatch.
One of my favorite parts of the Grey Knight video game, is that this Ordo Malleus Inquisitor comes aboard the ship and they make a video call to the Grandmaster of the Swordbearers brotherhood, and the Grandmaster literally hangs up on the Inquisitor because she commanded him to do something. So we're getting a little bit of progress in the whole narrative of the Grey Knights just bring the lapdogs of the Inquisition.
to be fair, the inquisition isn't one big unified entity. The inquisitor wasn't sure the grey knights existed before she met them and her demanding he send more forces was, although 100% a thing she was allowed to do, a slight breach of etiquette. The only reason the chapter master even let her call was because other grey knights vouched the mission was important
I adore Custodes. Listening to the books “Valdor: Birth of the Imperium”, and the two Watchers of the Throne books, it gives you a true feeling of dread when you look at them. Like when a single custodes starts hefting up a 5 ton elevator by pulling the cable *hand over hand*, gets within arms reach, then *throws it* with a *single arm* across an entire warehouse floor. Or when a mercenary is looking on with awe as he sees a custodes *kicking over a tank*
Technically not a planet; Malcador moved Saturn's moon, Titan, into the warp for the fledgling Grey Knights to train and mature into a battle-ready chapter.
Ill only maake 1 correction. Malcador found 10 space marines to be chosen for the honor of being a grey knight. Gavriel loken and nathaniel garro both opted out of the final selection becuase they wanted to stay and fight at the siege of terra. Otherwise you guys are doing awesome job breaking down lore. Please carry on.
Custodes without sisters of silence are a bit "fragile" against psychic powers, so I think it would be quite a fair fight. Obviously a Custodes is much stronger and faster in combat, but a Grey Knight can just snap his fingers and turn the Custodes into pulp inside his armour.
I think the terminus decree is the Killswitch for the emperor. Either it kills him and allows him to ascend into godhood, or it just outright kills him and opens the hell portal onearth and snuffing the galactic imperial lighthouse. Either we are saved by a new god, or the emperor(the literal foundation of the imperium) gets killed.
Fun fact the chapter paster of the minotaurs once gave a custodes pause because they didnt know if they could take out a fully kitted out chapter master of theirs
Honestly, doing an episode on the Deathwatch would be a cool partner episode to this. One does purges on heretics, and the other does....pretty much everything else.
if I remember the story with the sister they thought they needed virgin blood to not get processed by a demon despite them being immune from both possession and corruption from chaos
In my last rogue trader game, and me, an arch militant guardsmen foughts on a choas controlled planet. Random ship guy talking to me. "Hey, did you get to see any of his angels while groundside?" My character: flashbacks of a gray knight 2 man kill team fighting a greater demon. "No, I didn't see any groundside, just a lot of corpses and blood" _'don't have a panic attack, don't have a panic attack, don't have a panic attack'_
There is a single grey knight that was corrupted by chaos. His mission was a little bit TOO ambitious and his failing is still pretty cool. They sent a grey knight to END Slan'esh. The fact that they thought he just MIGHT succeed says a ton. There was a possibility. They sent a grey knight to battle a Chaos god and thought it was a longshot but it was worth the risk.
In the Watchers of the Throne series, some Grey knights team up with the Custodes and sisters. The presence of the sisters just turns off the psychic abilities of the knights. They’re still terrifying in melee, but just without their psychic wnhancemenrs
Next in line (I hope) are the golden gods of the Adeptus Custodes and Sisters of Silence. BTW love all your vids its fun to hear you talk about anything really, also if you see this Isyander or Koda what's your favorite faction.
Woo. Loved seeing my name at the end. The Grey Knights are interesting as a group. The chainsaw against the demons. I think a Sister of Silence would depower a lot of things with a Grey Knight however they would still be space Marines. Like, the Sisters of Silence have been said to see the Emperor in his true form. I cannot recall the book but they described him as being like "a man who carries the pain of humanity. He looked small and tired." Also, Idaho people represent!
I think there was a Custodes who fought alongside Grey Knights, with Sisters Of Silence in tow. IIRC they thought about how the Grey Knights, even without their psyker ability, are still more effective compared to standard Astartes.
I discovered 40k about 3 months ago. Ever since then ive dived hella deep into the lore. Gray knights are officially my favorite chapter out of all of them. Even their armor is the coolest.
My "favorite" thing about the grey knights is that they just now decided to make figures that show their true size just when they made primaris so now they still look to be the same size
I'd love if the Tyrannids that are getting all demon-fed and evolving from Chaos end up within the purview of the Grey Knights just to get to see even a small offshoot of them fight the Nids. It would make sense that Nids taking on more and more Chaos traits might eventually lead to them falling under what Grey Knights are supposed to handle. Just getting enough Chaos traits and features that its basically just Chaos bugs.
Guys… this is THE BEST 40K lore content out there. Congrats on the well deserved success. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Adeptus Ridiculous but Brickys ego and controlling nature gets tough to listen to. You guys are perfecting their formula. Well done
When Gilman fought Magnus for the first time it was also with sisters of silence. I'm sure if the sisters did go against them it would affect them a lot more heavily than it did Magnus.
Hello from Costa Rica. 1. Fun fact about Costa Rica is that since we don't have a Military all money that would go to it instead goes to health care and education so we have the best health care system, that is also free, and the best education system, including free college, in all of Central America. 2. Will we get an episode dedicated to the Iron Warriors and Perturabo? Because they HARD carried the heresy. Iron within, Iron without.
Really love the content! Found ya through the shorts, but I appreciate that the long form is here too! I've never played, but the 40k lore is so meaty. Thanks for the deep dives with charm!
I love the Grey Knights, and I love the way you guys do this info. Lots of data but in a nice, conversational manner. Wish you had more on their homeworld of Titan! One thing you missed that I think is hella cool: upon officially becoming a Grey Knight, each man is given a name that is _literally anathema_ to a particular demon. Like if you named a Knight Michael, his very name would be painful and repelling to a demon named Satan. Names and words have power, as you said about the words of banishment; so in a way, every single knight becomes the dedicated antithesis to a particular demon. So damn cool.
Just found you guys. So entertaining. Love your perspectives. Even after already knowing everything you covered. You make it all sound so fresh. HORUSY is now a Warhammer word for me.😂
The terminus decree will probably either summon all Grey Knights to the emperor to defend and protect him or will be a NUKE EM ALL type deal. Just my fun take :)
Or better yet: the same ritual that created the Emperor. And Grey Knights are all psykers like those several hundred shamans were, just much much stronger.
For the squad of Grey Knights, let me correct it. It was not a squad of Grey Knights but rather a squad of Deathwing Terminators. *The best of the Dark Angel’s best*. And they fought a Dark Cells Warden Custodes (basically WH40k’s pocket version of the SCP foundation) and struggled *Immensely* The Warden cut through those Elite Deathwing terminators like butter, killing like 3-5 of them iirc, and they only won because the Librarian they had with them was *basically killing himself* with the amount of exertion he was committing to his warp spells to restrain the Custodes, just for a few seconds,in order to let another terminator let a missle fly and hit the banana boy. I can’t remember if they actually killed the Custodes or not but that’s basically how strong Custodes are. This was when the Dark Angels picked up a trace of Cypher’s location in the Dark Cells in the Imperial Palace, and sent unmarked Deathwing Terminators to try and get him. They damn near all died to that Warden and most likely would’ve if they hadn’t had that Librarian since Custodes only really have one weakness and it’s *extremely* strong psykers, which is why they have Sisters of Silence with them to negate any strong psykers. Reg psykers would probably just implode trying to stop a banana boy,and even one of the best Librarians the Deathwing had, damn near failed to keep the Custodes still.
10 thousand gentlemen, there are a thousand us Brazilians and the damned Aussies we were part of this glorious quest for the 10 thousand congrats boys you deserv it
Just some context on which planet this refers too that the recruits for the Grey Knights were added, it was the moon Titan. Macaldor had turned around and took the whole moon of Titan, threw it into the warp with some strange stasis effect that essentially sped up time for Titan about 1,000 years, which gave the Grey Knights the ability to train, learn, and become absolute beasts in the blink of an eye in real space. The Grey Knights learned as much as they could for their psyker abilities and also learning true names of daemons, and so much more over a thousand years within 10 minutes of real time. Once they were up to par, Malcador brought Titan back into real space and the Grey Knights ended up putting foot to ass right after the heresy. There is also a Grey Knight known as Epimetheus who use to be a Dark Angel, after a bit of time, on the death world Pythos, there had been something called the Emerald Cache that kept a greater daemon of Nurgle in it. Well after they sealed it, Epimetheus was left there to watch over it. It was about 10k years later that someone tried fucking with it and Epimetheus had put himself into the suspended animation state. Pandorax is the name of the book, it's really good.
I believe if a psyker is powerful enough it will cancel out the effect of a blank (severely weakening them). Most psykers are nowhere near powerful enough to do that. I would think a Grey Knight would be very uncomfortable near a Sister of Silence, but still able to manifest very reduced psychic power.
What so how bad was the monster in the emerald cave? I remember hearing like 60 Grey knights and a whole butt load of others just to lock Papa Nurgals pet away
Malcolm X being quoted in Warhammer discussion is something I did not expect and it's one of the reasons for falling in love with this channel. These dudes are awesome!
Key points missed or wrong: 1. Grey Knight have demon possessed weapons 2. The Terminus Decree is to destroy Terra using the golden throne rather than let it fall to chaos 3. Grey Knights actually take the inverse of a demon's true name so that they are ideally optimized to fight them. 4. A Grey Knight can absolutely beat a custodes in combat, but it depends on which custodes and which grey knight. Psykers are OP and there are psychic powers that would simply delete custodes
Uh.... 1 - yes 2 - We don't know, lot's of fanfiction, but no concrete lore as far as I'm aware 3 - not really, they get giving new names when doing great deeds, these are added to their current name and inscribed into their armour. The longer the name, the more difficult it is for a demon to have power over them. 4 - Absolutely not. Custodians go through Space Marines like butter and Grey Knights are NOT any better than normal Space Marines, they just get fancier gear and have some powers. They are hard counter to Demons and warp based enemies, they would get killed in seconds when fighting Custodians.
24:50 Here is something. there is actually one instance in which a grey knight was corrupted by chaos. The bastard had charged into the warp alone and vowed that if he ever returned then Slaanesh would be dead. he had made it into Slaanesh's realm of infinite temptations where any indulgence you can think of lies actively beckoning you to take it with entire worlds that perfectly cater to your every desire in a way that you would actually believe you had achieved it yourself. The bastard then proceeded to make his way through, ignoring every temptation and made his way to the palace of Slaanesh in which more temptations lied waiting. he went through until he found Slaanesh her/him/it self. He made an attempt to kill Slaanesh there and then. lets just talk about this real quick though, most would go insane an pledge eternal fealty at just the sight of a direct image of Slaanesh and yet we have this bastard who is so completely filled with righteous fury that he ignores that and goes for an attempt to kill anyways whilst being in her direct presence. After that we hit the singular moment that sealed his fate. Slaanesh had made an active movement and had transformed into the perfect picture of an innocent child. Think of the most innocent child you have ever seen, set that on the dial to be considered a 1, now turn the dial up to 12. Now as you would suspect from that mental image, the grey knight hesitated for half a second before attempting to continue his swing, but in that moment Slaanesh applied a directed presence at him that only managed to infiltrate his mind due to his momentary distraction. just before his blade cleaved of the child's head, he knelt down and swore eternal fealty as her knight. It took the chaos god that most heavily specializes in corruption actually being present and applying a not insignificant amount of active effort to corrupt a grey knight. shall I point out that Khorne merely standing up from his throne allowed his PROXY to cut a PLANET IN HALF WITH ONE SWING. So unless a grey knight finds themself face to face with Slaanesh out of all chaos gods after having to face every trial she has to throw at them to whittle away at their will, they are, for all intents and purposes incorruptible.
Ah yes the grey knights, the knights who've sacrificed sisters of battle to purge the blood god knorne with the holy blood of their loyal aforementioned sisters. Great writing...love to see. Heretic out

The bolter projectiles are self-propelled, sort of mini-rockets. There is a very small explosive charge to get the "bolt" out of the barrel, afer leaving it the solid-fuel rocket propellant is ignited. Oh and not only does it come with a hardenend diamantine (some sort of composite ceramic) tip and a dense metallic core for improved armor penetration. It also has a explosive charge with a split-second delay impact timer so the charge detonates after penetrating the armor
Honestly you guys are pretty awesome. You take the time to read the lore and give it to the people in a very efficent and understandable way. Please keep up the work. You have good content and seem genuine it may take the work but with that you will create a genuine fan base.
There is actually lore of sisters of silence fighting along side Grey Knights and it basically went pretty well, the Grey Knights just gritted their teeth and seamlessly transitioned to fighting more like regular spacemarines, without psychic powers
In the same book as the squad of grey knights matching a custodes there was another scene further down the line. The same custodes and grey knights squad were joined by 3 sisters of silence to fight a bloodthirster and other demons at the battle of lion's gate. Grey knights could still function and fight near sos which is damn impressive. They were stated to be about as good as a "regular" veteran terminator marine, but their loss of psychic powers wasn't as impactful as the debilitating effects high class blanks have on deamons
Grey Knight-player here 🙌 But: about the latrine-bit: was surprised - when visiting - to learn of Seattle’s history with that whole thing… pretty crazy 😂
Isander you do such a great job encapsulating all of the fun and fascinating things about this hobby. Thanks for helping me remember why I got into this in the first place. Fun!
it super neato to see how much more your following went up since you started talking about 40k isyander, you found your niche and we love ya for nerding out on it.
Yea it’s really funny how the Supreme grand master the only person who can open the box is the one in the warp Fun fact, in the game Chaos Gate daemon hunters you play as Grey knights fighting nurgle eventually you send 8 knights into the garden of nurgle to save the supreme grand master from the overwhelming forces that have converged on him which was a plan of mortarian which was eons in the making and it was derailed completely by 8 knights coming to save him 8, it took 8 to do the job even then half fight mortarian the other half literally just stand in the way of the army trying to get to mortarian
So, I have a fan made character who was a mechanicus magos who decided gellar fields are cool I wanna play around with those. Not only did he figure out how to make more of them he figured out how to use them to rip out a portion of the warp into real space and rid it of any corruption which he then used to turn himself into something akin to an unaligned demon prince. At the present moment he’s been chilling in the emperor’s light blasting any demons who get a little to close for comfort while taking more and more chunks out of the warp and occasionally letting somebody summon him to mess somebody up for the right reasons.
Grey knight horror game needs to be, the first half of the gamr ur a regular gaurdsmen, and youre trying to escape a lesser deamon, but you eventually die, then you takeover the deamons body and you start finding more of your deamon buddies ripped to shreds and shit, and youre using clues to figure out what is doing this, then a grey knight finally starts slowly hiding in the background of every area, and they slowly get closer and closer every new level area, and eventually they srart messing with you and hunting you quietly
Fun fact in the table top "There is only War" basically 40k but D&D you can somewhat homebrew Grey Knights and can just summon black holes. I did this and used this as a tool of great destruction didn't abuse it cuz where's the fun in that lol.
My favorite thing about the no one can know the gray knights exist thing, is that every time it’s mentioned it’s by people that they then don’t mind wipe or or destroy, even though the inquisition continues to claim that they totally could if they wanted
What Big E didn't realize is that the Chaos Gods don't need worship. He actually killed (most) human gods, depriving humanity of a natural defense against Chaos.
I only read the first sentence of the explanation of the Daemonculaba and im already so overwhelmed. That was both grim and dark. I should of listened😂😭
You guys are doing great, nice long epps and targeted. - Their members are taken from chapters across the Imperium (though I forget if they're volunteers or a tithe system)
- They're the single most practical, pragmatic SMs in the Imperium
Their induction process begins with strapping the new member into a VR system where they're forced to watch their chapter get slaughtered *specifically* because of that chapter's hangups, *repeatedly* until the point is made.

We did it bois, they got that plaque.

Emperor Protects
I adore Custodes. Listening to the books “Valdor: Birth of the Imperium”, and the two Watchers of the Throne books, it gives you a true feeling of dread when you look at them.
Like when a single custodes starts hefting up a 5 ton elevator by pulling the cable *hand over hand*, gets within arms reach, then *throws it* with a *single arm* across an entire warehouse floor.
Or when a mercenary is looking on with awe as he sees a custodes *kicking over a tank*
Yep. They're freaks, love them for how freaky they are. Astartes are cool, but they're not golden statues that parries bullets.
@@SeanCrosser Astartes are budget Custodes and that is a stance I'm not changing
@@thebighurt2495you’re technically not wrong given how they’re handmade by the Emperor himself while most space marines are (sorta) mass produced.
Custodes without sisters of silence are a bit "fragile" against psychic powers, so I think it would be quite a fair fight. Obviously a Custodes is much stronger and faster in combat, but a Grey Knight can just snap his fingers and turn the Custodes into pulp inside his armour.
Commissar Harvey, who has sufferred so much damage in countless battles so that he can only shout "Kill!" should be canon.
Great work as always. Thank you for covering the Grey Knights. Florida USA here.
1. Black Templars
2. Death Watch
3. Legion of the Damned
Would love to see then do the legion of the damned
I’m all for this especially the last two. Those two are my favorite legions
DEATH WATCH DEATH WATCH DEATH WATCH
I think the terminus decree is the Killswitch for the emperor. Either it kills him and allows him to ascend into godhood, or it just outright kills him and opens the hell portal onearth and snuffing the galactic imperial lighthouse.
Either we are saved by a new god, or the emperor(the literal foundation of the imperium) gets killed.
That's the ultimate Hail Mary. A Hail Mary but the ball has a pocket nuke with an impact detonator attached.
"Hey, did you get to see any of his angels while groundside?"
My character: flashbacks of a gray knight 2 man kill team fighting a greater demon.
Dude deserves a cookie
I think it was more that he got lost in the Warp, ended up in Slaanesh's realm, and got through all of the layers until he fell at the doorstep.
It wasn't a grey knight as they retained memories of their past, didn't have any psyker powers, and a few other things
No one knows if it really was a Grey Knight, The Demon Codex only says a knight in silver armor, and there are several Chapters that have Silver armor
“My Goddess, the gate watchers report Doom music approaching!!”
“2016 or nineties Doom?”
In the Watchers of the Throne series, some Grey knights team up with the Custodes and sisters. The presence of the sisters just turns off the psychic abilities of the knights. They’re still terrifying in melee, but just without their psychic wnhancemenrs
The Grey knights would love the doom guy, they’d get along so well!
Next in line (I hope) are the golden gods of the Adeptus Custodes and Sisters of Silence. BTW love all your vids its fun to hear you talk about anything really, also if you see this Isyander or Koda what's your favorite faction.
Could we get a video on the abhumans? I feel like the ogryn and rattlings get overlooked and their lore is so fun.
He looked small and tired."
Also, Idaho people represent!
I think it was the novel "Master of Mankind"
Well done
Completely agree. Honestly, these guys’ podcast is usually leaving me wanting more.
Which is a great position for them to be in.
The way these guys talk about warhammer 40k is so fun.
Y'alls podcast has seriously hooked me. Love the 40k lore, hope it stays. Your narrative style is great

I would like to talk about 40k like you do. I have a tendency to get deeper into Lore with every sentence, and it scares listeners off.
I would Love a Video about The Death Korps of Krieg.
Also Good Soup Today from Germany.
For the squad of Grey Knights, let me correct it.
It was not a squad of Grey Knights but rather a squad of Deathwing Terminators. *The best of the Dark Angel’s best*. And they fought a Dark Cells Warden Custodes (basically WH40k’s pocket version of the SCP foundation) and struggled *Immensely*
The Warden cut through those Elite Deathwing terminators like butter, killing like 3-5 of them iirc, and they only won because the Librarian they had with them was *basically killing himself* with the amount of exertion he was committing to his warp spells to restrain the Custodes, just for a few seconds,in order to let another terminator let a missle fly and hit the banana boy.
10 thousand gentlemen, there are a thousand us Brazilians and the damned Aussies we were part of this glorious quest for the 10 thousand congrats boys you deserv it
3:10 The Steve Harvey joke made me laugh so hard. I only laughed because I got the context of that.
I’d say we love the grey knights, but i’d rather not ever know they exist
2:20 Those numbers are Oh so ridiculously generous. All I hear is love to all those listening.
Key points missed or wrong:
1. Grey Knight have demon possessed weapons
2. The Terminus Decree is to destroy Terra using the golden throne rather than let it fall to chaos
Uh....
1 - yes
2 - We don't know, lot's of fanfiction, but no concrete lore as far as I'm aware
3 - not really, they get giving new names when doing great deeds, these are added to their current name and inscribed into their armour.
I would love to read that book tho, seems an amazing story

The bolter projectiles are self-propelled, sort of mini-rockets. There is a very small explosive charge to get the "bolt" out of the barrel, afer leaving it the solid-fuel rocket propellant is ignited.

Grey knights could still function and fight near sos which is damn impressive. They were stated to be about as good as a "regular" veteran terminator marine, but their loss of psychic powers wasn't as impactful as the debilitating effects high class blanks have on deamons

Yea it’s really funny how the Supreme grand master the only person who can open the box is the one in the warp
Fun fact, in the game Chaos Gate daemon hunters you play as Grey knights fighting nurgle eventually you send 8 knights into the garden of nurgle to save the supreme grand master from the overwhelming forces that have converged on him which was a plan of mortarian which was eons in the making and it was derailed completely by 8 knights coming to save him 8, it took 8 to do the job even then half fight mortarian the other half literally just stand in the way of the army trying to get to mortarian
They snapped into that Sister of battle like Slim Jim.
The Grey knights grand master also is implanted with a shard of Magnus’s soul so that’s cool
That would be wild to play co-op with
Fun fact in the table top "There is only War" basically 40k but D&D you can somewhat homebrew Grey Knights and can just summon black holes.
