I was just imagining a Bard Tav sitting and writing all these songs instead of fanfiction involving them.

Awesome! I had Gale in my first playthrough. He's such a sweet guy, I really managed to like him. Your song captures his sadness, and also his desire to move forward.
Next song I'd vote for Minthara or The Dark Urge. Especially Dark Urge as a metal version could really bring out all your strong points!
The Dark Urge deserves a metal song! Dude literally defied death after his cruel assasssination to return with vengace against the very blood in his veins!
@@YuubiTimberwolf And not by will, hate or own power. Death himself deemed him too heroic to die. Others may have difficult lifes or sad backstories, but only the Dark Urge betrays his very existence to be a hero (or he is just the villian, if you´re a dick).
Gale is pretty solid. All the characters are so well written.

god I'm enamored by how well you make bard-like songs, every BG3 song from you has been a straight banger, especially Shadowheart.
Gale is a particularly interesting character to me because you can see he's doing his best to be better. he openly admits he was foolish and shouldn't have done what he did, but he still has that insecurity where he feels he needs to be more, to be Mystra's equal. and it makes sense, because she's a goddess and he a mortal, of course he would want to stand beside her if he truly loved her. and that desire resurfaces, unless you convince him that it's not worth it. he conducts himself in a very arrogant way but it's hiding a serious amount of self loathing... and gifted kid syndrome lol. it's a shame more people didn't give him a chance due to his buggyness.

The time signature on this fits the rhyming scheme really well. I like how the lyrics go back and forth between praising Gale's prodigious talent and digging at his flaws in equal measure.

The way the beat of the guitar sounds it reminds me of a ticking time bomb. Which is PERFECT for what Gale is going through with the orb in his chest! Bravo Jonathan!👏👏👏

So excited to hear the rest of the companion songs, but also curious if we’ll get a Dark Urge song.
I had Gale in my second playthrough and love him deeply. I really love how your song captures his loneliness and how broken he actually is. If we love him as who he is, we can see what he actually craves is love, not power.
Right. He seems to think that if he redeems himself and can regain what power he once had he might be able to reclaim his Mystra. He is heartbroken to have ruined his relationship.
He meant well by tracking down the fragment. He meant it as a token of his love. He fell to temptation because he is not a god, he is human. He made a mistake.
I'm hoping you'll cover Halsin, Minthara, and (as a wild vote out there) Ketharic Thorm, because Ketharic was my favorite enemy character, despite being barely present. The threat he posed that made the entire Act 2 feel so ominous just made him feel like a presence that a song could be crafted about.

I mean honestly Gortash and Orin weren’t even the big bads of their Act, Ketheric was the king of Act 2

Astarion's my Ride-or-die Bestie, but even without the Netherese bomb inside Gale, I feel he deserves a better fate than what Mystra left him with.
Most people seem to overlook the rough edges of their favorite companions and exaggerate those of the others. Most of the companions start off pretty rough, especially the 4 you meet right by the crash site
I feel a lot of the Gale hate is based on taking his story literally as a story about a weird relationship. If you consider how poetic the guy is and take the way into account how he introduces Mystra to you (for me she is all magic, all creation) it becomes a story about someone so enamoured with his chosen profession that he sees no purpose outside of it and this hunger is destroying him, magical burnout to make a crude metaphor. Astarion's story is much more literal - but then again, Astarion is "the body" who wants to be more than that while Gale is "the mind" and he needs to be more than that too to be whole.

"idgaf about lae'zel i always let her die, she's an asshole" she is the YOUNGEST PERSON IN THE GROUP and she has been fed militaristic propaganda for her whole life which she earnestly and wholeheartedly believes in and she is TRYING to help YOU get a CURE despite the fact that youre a stranger to her and her culture!

So how many more of these are we thinking. We still need Wyll, Lae'zell, Halsin (would be cool to have), and maybe a dark urge song since it's a unique archetype with very much its own story.
Lets not forget Jaheira she has so many epic tales
He could maybe even do two dark urge songs, one for resisting the urge and one for full-blown villain.
I have a very soft spot for Halsin somehow.
He's a cutie and definitely has his shit together. I'll romance him earnestly on my third playthrough (the second now is a Durge, i'm not going to do that to the poor Druid). He 'barely tolerates' her after all. Maybe i'll do a resist Durge. It feels like Halsin can not only take that but actively help Durge to go through the process without dooming himself.
Durge is a very fun play so far and feels more like the Main character than any of the others.

Ok so next Baldur’s Gate patch - devs can add a Bard NPC that you can come across and he will sing about each companion. Mr Young, you’ll be needed in that MoCap studio. Can you do a British Accent?

I love trying to decipher his story from this. I almost would say he doesn't need a lover. He needs a friend to guide him and help him understand humility, to admit his flaws, and know he is still enough.
He IS enough. Gale went from hubris and thinking himself a god to getting his heart broken by his own foolish choice to open the book. I bet if you could ask him he would say if he could he would go back and not open the book. I can tell how badly he misses Mystra, he's just trying to lie to himself to soften the pain.
The 'baseline' feels vaguely flamenco and it works really well.

As expected another banger, really captures gales loneliness and the tragic situation regarding the orb in his chest. Now just laezel and wyll and you'll have done all the act 1 companions.
Everytime I try to start a different game up, the siren draws me back to Baldurs Gate with yet another beautiful song...
You really are doing a superb job on these BG3 songs, I thought you'd struggle to match the quality of Karlach or Astarion's song with some of the others as those two have great and easily defined character with more binary stories, where many of the others are more secretive/nuanced so hard to capture as well. I look forward to the rest (expect perhaps Wyl's, I've never managed to warm to him, or his speaking about himself in 3rd person all the time).
I kind of want to hear a more Dr Who theme styled cover of Gale's song, I think that could really add an interesting twist that mimics his hubris caused problem - consuming the bardcore at times.

I love how I got my signing from Tim Dowie today and so did this song! Absolute perfection
I love how every single one of these songs (except for the call), has a simple, repetitive melody and lyrics that are deep at the same time, and clearly something that would be a bardic banger in medieval/fantasy settings. Not only that, the fact that every single one of them has been hitting at identity and who these characters are at their most origin form is thematically on point. I simply love Jonathan's music writing.
This is so interesting because I never saw him as power hungry or vain. What happened to him was a result of wanting to prove himself worthy of Mystra's love. He wanted to be her equal in their relationship. Nothing was ever done out of lust for power or vanity. He did overreach, thought that he could handle it and that was hubris but he never wanted to be powerful for the sake of it.
