I was a 16yo boy in the soviet bloc at that time, it was a historic moment. There's nothing to get you high like freedom.
I love watching reactions to this, and how most of the people reacting don't even understand the significance of what they're watching at the moment. :D
The wall just fell...and the Russians new what they were missing!! Metallica frees the world!!!
GUYS METALLICA IS THE GOAT OF METAL MUSIC!
They are surreal good wow
Great reaction. This concert took place after the fall of the Berlin Wall in Germany and the fall of communism (socialism) in the USSR (Russia). There were many bands there and the Russian government didn't know what to expect. James Hetfield, the lead singer of Metallica, said the military tried to control the crowd but then ended up jamming along with the people. 56 people died btw. The Russian people were being exposed to things that had only been available on the black market and things we take for granted in America. Nice to see younger people appreciate the music I listened to (and still do) when I was your age. Nice video! Keep up the good work! 😊
When your music and the crowd reaction noise can drown out a helicopter.
THE LAST OF THE CROWD JUST LEFT! LMAO!
1.6 million people at the concert guys, that's a LOT. So big they had to have the concert at the airport with 11,000 army troops keeping the peace. CRAZY
Awesome reaction!! Metallica has been the biggest band in the world for 3 decades.
4:19 Guys, in 1991 you didn't have the chance to choose between going to your favourite group's concert or stay at home watching a bunch of other concerts of theirs in UA-cam. Besides, this was a festival, so there were more groups. And this was in Russia. This was their first chance to see these groups live. That's the reason why there were so many people that day.
1.6 million people. Crowd control by the army and by helicopter. Held in an empty airfield. 56 people died. This is how the world was rocking way before you were born.
1.6 million.. I heard the helicopter was there to help with the flow of air.
😂😂😂🤘🤘🤘
I'd heard that it had loudspeakers telling the crowd to calm down.....and it was rumored to have a sniper onboard in case of trouble. The gov't had no idea what to expect.
saw Metallica first time at 15 in mid 80s, so much fun growing up in the 80s with so much great music
Tell me about it!... I just got home yesterday from that concert. 👀🤘🤘🤘
This '91 Moscow show gave us SO many great live tracks. Harvester Of Sorrow is my favorite (going back and forth between that one and Creeping Death). Those 2 will add up the "likes" for sure.
Sad But True, Creeping Death and Fade To Black are all performed live in Moscow 1991. Give 'em a try.....and have the lyrics handy. Great vid! Liked and sub'd.
1.6 Million People!! Yes, the Russian Military was in Full Force!!!
56 people died at this show. That’s metal.
Wow. I kinda remember that! What year?
Rob Karp 1991
You’re right. That’s too many people for me too! I can’t even imagine 😂😂 cool as shit to watch tho
Metallica Disposable Heros live in Mexico City 2009
1.6 million people there, 53 people lost their lives... It was
Metallica, Crue, Black Crows, AC/DC among others for this concert!
Metallica - Creeping death live in Milton Keynes 1993
The count was between 1.6 million and 2 million people.
Crazy amount of people lol
these guys are awesome in concert great time
The sound of freedom!
This was a free show. There is no limit if you aren't printing tickets. I highly doubt they knew they were gonna have 1.6 million people show up for this. You have to remember tho that in Russia in the 80s and before, people weren't really allowed to listen to western music. This was a historically groundbreaking show. Also, my understanding is that Metallica were not the only megaband at this show.
So very glad you guys mentioned needing the police ,to keep the peace.. Thank You!
What police, you mean thousands of armed Russian soldiers that were so confused (half of them were beating people, and the other half partying with the rest)
I've seen METALLICA live a few times in Australia ♥️. They are the best live. I just found your reaction channel 🤟🤟🤟🤟
56 people died. Suffocation and heat. The helicopters where fanning the crowd to cool them off.
There was a minimum of 1.6 million there, but they also just opened the gates. Ive heard there could have been close to 3.5 million.
1.6 million yo.
This concert was the first that allowed Western bands to perform in the Soviet Union...inspired Scorpions Winds of Change...then pressure insued ... next fall of the Berlin Wall
Imagine being in the center of the crowd and all of a sudden you have an urge to do a "number two".
..
@jCj Metallica still has HUGE crowds and epic sales to this date!
bless you for that shirt man! love from metallica's family in israel!
I was in Moscow when this went on....it was a crazy time then.
There was 1.6M..people at concert!
1.6 Million people....and this is only 3rd on the all time list of crowds at an open air concert. #1 is Rod Stewart at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with a crowd of 3.5 Million in 1994. #2 was Jean Michel Jarre in 1997 also in Russia, like that Metallica show, with 3.5 Million.
That wasn't the confederate flag, so you know. It is a Norwegian flag. Due to it looking like a confederate flag, they have since changed their flag.
Sadly, 53 people died at this event. Most, they said, from drug overdose.
Artists Today: "I just sold out Madison Square Garden. I'm a God."
Metallica: "That's cute kid. We sold out Russia!"
They stopped counting at 1.6 million. 500k tickets sold. Estimated at the end of this set there was 2 million.
It's was 1.6 million people. That concert was in the middle of the civil war. The fall of the Berlin wall.
good one, guys.. keep it up.. funny too
1.6 million or more!
This was a rare even in history because Russia at those times is not only Russia but The Union of Soviet Socialist Republic. Ruled by a dictator at those time and Mikhail Gorbachiv. This was their first concert and a short experience of the people of USSR of what freedom was before the collapse of USSR later that same year.
Funny you said you didnt think they were so big.. Because back in the day after their master of puppets album.. they were considered sell out anything after that.. When they came out with the Black Album.. they called them sellouts for under ground music becoming not only radio music.. but world wide..lol.. Metallica said.. damn straight we are sell outs.. we sell out every arena world wide..lol.. Must do Master of puppets.. and have the lyrics in front of you while you do your video on them
We’ll for sure do master of puppets as soon as possible, thanks for watching
Lez Zeppelin in true rocking roll. This is mor heavy metal.
Military base in Moscow 1991
I miss rock it is by the best period
React to Metallica master of puppets live in seattle
its always been rock that has brought people of all races, creeds,, or ethnicity, or Christianity that have brought people the meaning of freedom
Millions-
1.6 was an estimated number
Metallica is pretty big. Over 125 million albums sold
Rock and metal concerts a mostly non violent, people come out to enjoy themselves and meet other people they probably never would have met, sure there maybe an incident or two but compared to what's going on in certain cities and states right now? Give me a rock or metal concert as long as I'm close t a bathroom!!!!!
Actually they stopped counting after 1.7 million, guesstimates are the crowd got to 3.5 million, metallica rules 🤟
Israeli army hoodies! Respect 🇮🇱♥️
The PAID attendance was 1/2 MIL... the estimated attendance was 1.6 MIL. After you perform for 1.6 mil, you lose any sense of stage fright.
Would love to see you react to Slipknot “Spit it Out” but it has to be the live 2009 at Download performance. You will be effin amazed!!!
Please react to micheal jackson earth song live in south corea
