No, this is the American Tango style. It is different than both the international tango and argentine tango. The international style tango never releases from closed hold, where as the american style does! Hope this helps :)

They are more similar than the Argentine Tango, but the International style Tango is different then the American Tango (which we teach here). Thanks for watching! :)

Int.tango has closed positions, like other int.dances, american smooth is developed for social , more open figures.

Great lesson for beginners. I dance Argentine and I've always wondered where the weird "karate chop" left hand position for the follower in American comes from. I've not been able to find any info on the web about the origins of that. Would you know...?

Yes it is definitely unique! Since the American tango is a traveling dance we need to have a connection that allow us to move and feel our partner while still staying closer and ideally take large steps across the floor.
