I like your comment ...it's a perfect definition of Charlie's expectations here", ..he has it under control. I am not joking you got the ingredients of a great crtic of cinema/art. ( Wishes from Sri Lanka).
From what I read, Al Pacino did lots of research as to how blind people get around, how they dealt with the depression of knowing they couldn't see anymore and how they would do things like light a cigar.
Many years ago, I saw a blind man taking his baby for a walk - the baby in one arm, his cane in the other. The determination and spirit that I saw in him, I see in Frank in this scene. Blindness can't keep a great man down!

One of my favourite scenes from one of my favourite films of all time. Just saw Mr. Pacino on Broadway last week and he was incredible. Also met him at the stage door. He was so warm and generous, going around multiple times to sign everything, then happily posing for photos with fans - including me! It was so surreal, I literally freaked out! He's such a sweet man. I love him a million times more now. :)
Can’t even describe my feelings while watching this scene. So many emotion on his face. Easily one of the best scenes ever filmed. Pacino really is one of a kind.
I won't get tired of watching this scene; it's the highlight of the movie "Scent of A Woman"; Al Pacino's tango is unforgettable, obviously blind yet his character executed it perfectly 😍

@@georgemavrides3434 Oscar's always do that overdue an award for specific actors. I guess this approach pressures the actors to do more movies and not be able to leverage salary on productions. Most awardees take easy and high paying roles after an award.
Many actresses can say they have made millions of dollars or earned awards from their roles, but how many actresses can say they danced the tango with Al Pacino, and it is captured on film forever?!! What an iconic scene.
One can clearly see some of the little smiles in both Pacino's and Anwar's faces are true joy of just dancing a good Tango together! All in all, one of my favorite movies!
Pacino was far from handsome. My mum met him im person in the 90's. he's 1.70 m and pretty much nondescript. Of course he could sell his Napoleonesque attitude (typical for shorties) very convincing in Hollywood, by playing always the cheeky one who steals the limelight. In real life attitude like this is a straight "ticket" to the hospital, but hey not in the movies. that's why people love to watch them.
@@fredrickaappletree3402 Fully concur. I would say that confidence is half the battle, if not more. There are people who are experts in faking confidence. And of course thinkers have a bit of a problem in presenting themselves cocky, since they're always in doubt. It's mostly bland and ordinary people who radiate that kind of confidence -men and women - i guess it's natural and kind of their "weapon".
I'm watching this again after many, many years and it made me cry tears of joy (which I didn't the first time I saw it). Pacino was fantastic here but Gabrielle Anwar also deserves praise for her performance. You can literally see her heart and soul open up to life and the new experience Pacino's character brought to her. Her smile and her moves start off shy, but with trust, she gains confidence and she breaks into open joy and surrenders herself to the dance and basically -- whatever else life has to give her.
I love Al Pacino’s hands as they move while they danced …timeless scene.. real men who can dance can really charm women..it must have been heaven dancing with him..my all time favorite actor..I’m glad he finally won an Oscar for this movie..it’s long overdue..
As many of us, I have watched this piece over and over, and never get tired. Loved the entire movie. but this clip is the master piece. Nothing like tango!
One of the best scenes ever, it's not only tango, it's how the character apreciate life despite of not being able to see it, while the band plays, Frank remember all those moments in the past and you can notice that it in the way he dances, tango is a representation of life. Al pacino is amazing here.
My father recently passed. He reminded me so much of Al Pacino, especially in this film. His mannerisms, character -everything. The uncanny part of it all is that I had a thanksgiving trip to NY 10 years ago with my dad (who hadn’t seen this film) where we stayed at the Waldorf. He even dressed like Col Slade that weekend, and tripped and fell on Park Avenue the same way he did in this film. I’m just so grateful this film exists. It kept my fathers spirit alive. There is something inherently spiritual about this movie. Something greater than just a good script performed by great actors. It’s tied to something cosmic in my mind
one of the milestones of cinematic scenes of all time, with all the glory of Pacino's performance and Gabrielle Anwar's sweetness and angelic presence.
I really love this tango scene. Al Pacino is an incredible actor. Gabrielle Anwar later admitted just how lucky to have had the opportunity to have danced the tango with him in that movie. 🎉

Screenplay writer for Scent of a Woman, Bo Goldman, said, "If there is a moral to the film, it is that if we leave ourselves open and available to the surprising contradictions in life, we will find the strength to go on." 2:34 Source: English Wikipedia
“Por una Cabeza” is one of the most well-known “tango” music created in 1935. Carlos Gardel composed the music and Alfredo Le Pera wrote the lyrics. The title “Por una Cabeza” means “with a head (of a horse)” in Spanish. 3:00 It portrays the story of a man who lost everything after betting on a horse race, including the woman he admires. “Por una Cabeza,” i.e., “to lose by a head,” signifies the distance his horse lost in that race. By some correspondence, proportion or symmetry, it can be said that: The Argentine national team won the World Cup against France with great difficulty. By only a head! 3:01
This scene is probably one of the top 10 reasons I’ve gotten into tango 6 years ago. Watched this film maybe ten times in my whole life, it wasn’t until 2017 when I watched it again for the 7th time where I went “know what? I wanna learn the tango, I don’t care if I’m not great, I just wanna be like Pacino.”
Memorable movie scene. Great you gave it a try. Keep it up!🤩🇦🇷♥️ My husband and I started tango group lessons 3 weeks ago. Living in Argentina for 10 years and we decided to finally give it a try. The experience is so fulfilling, sublime and spectacular. Step by step with a learning mindset.❤🇦🇷👌🏼
I love the tension in this scene as you wonder how good a dancer he can be if he's blind but it's incredible as you can see not only is his young lady scared to make a fool of herself you can see he's a little scared too. But the longer the dance goes on you really see both of them loosen up and get more of a feel how the dance will go. A Timeless scene if there ever was one.
It is great how he challenges her to dance through her insecurity about doing so. Pacino's character was doing this throughout the film - an older blind reminding you of your strengths and talents were afraid to display and taking you through the process of taking on the challenge of them.
One of my all time favorite movie scenes. It makes me cry so hard everytime I see it, because there are SO many different feelings implicated and expressed by looks and moves only. A gem and a masterpiece of a scene. This tango is the real killer, of course: the melody tells of all the passions, losses and hopes a human being can have. Only a dead person can fail to be moved by this music...

The lyrics talks about a man that lost love and lost in horses and he is tired and says he will never bet again (again in love and in horses). Despite of that, he says "but if a horse is a sure winner next sunday, I bet everthing, what else can I do?".
It should be mentioned in description that the melody is: " "Por una Cabeza" is a tango song written in 1935 with music by Carlos Gardel and lyrics by Alfredo Le Pera."
I danced w a confident older gentlemen before my class started for salsa. It was a tango which i dont know. He seemed a bit stiff but guided me so well. Then I realized he has Parkinsons and continues to dance w a great smile. He was a great lead. I cant imagine how hard he is fighting to keep his movements smooth in the midst of fighting this illness. I happily followed him and had a wonderful tango lesson and dance. It was a wonderful memorable moment he shared w me.
I love to tango, but no longer have a partner. I could watch this scene every day of my life, and never get tired of it. Al Pacino and Gabrielle Anwar played it to perfection. Dancing is not about perfect technique; it's about perfect bliss...and that's what they achieved. Bravo!

I was floored by the performances when I first saw this movie, I was just a kid back then, and madly in love with Gabrielle Anwar in this scene. Now the title of the movie speaks so much more than it did back then when I was a boy. "Scent of a Woman", the closeness, the intimacy, the longing and the game of life where you do your best and the unluckiest of us end up lonely. A beautiful movie.

Afraid of making a mistake....what a pick me up scene for a confidence booster. He could not see her, just talking to her and dancing said it all. Both trusted each other. Experienced person plus a behinner. Love it.
Gabrielle Anwar lit up the screen with her radiant innocence. She was so tender, so delicate in her beauty and ever so slightly... one day she was gone, leaving only the scent of a woman.

@@lucywang3611 Al’s character is blind and the girl has never danced before, i would cut them some slack for sloppy technique. thats not what the scene is about anyway
What makes this scene perfect is they don't try to make him look like a big shot dancer, infant he reminds me of my dad, after a few drinks in some wedding, trying to impress some (much) younger ladies.

An amazing, truly unforgettable experience this whole movie was, especially this scene. I watched Gabrielle Anwar years later at some sort of event to honor Al Pacino and she was so sweet recollecting this amazing tango with him. Said her heart had not ever really recovered. And I would imagine that's true. Here was this very young actress who was going to only be in the film about 10 minutes or so but was going to get to dance with the legendary, amazing Al Pacino. Makes my heart pound to think of it. An absolutely timeless performance by them and I wonder if the producers ever really imagined this scene would be one of the most memorable in film history🤔

The way the girl loses herself as the dance progresses is what I love in this scene. She tries to hide her happiness at first when she smiles at 2:06 but can’t help it at 2:22, 3:01 and 3:17. Also notice the body language, she doesn’t stretch her arm wide at 2:14 but how happily she does at 2:35 and 3:33.
Yes of course, the way to a woman's heart being through dancing, giving her reassurance, conveying acceptance interest and appreciation. The woman needs support for her femininity, we get little attention as children compared to the outgoing boys, making a negative cycle we have to heal and turn around..Boys get empowerment from childhood and also feel their worth more naturally, creating a good circle.

+DeeDee Arnaz I don't think there's something that combines us as humanbeings together as music and dancing, it's that moment when you forget everything, everyone, and for a couple of minutes, there are only two people in the world, just you, and your dancing partner.
Also Salutes for your great spirit, you must be proud to do such thing, drawing a smile on someones face is something that is simply priceless

He's supreme. I have never seen an actor playing a blind man so convincingly. His dance is an extra plus, of course.
From what I read, Al Pacino did lots of research as to how blind people get around, how they dealt with the depression of knowing they couldn't see anymore and how they would do things like light a cigar.
You should see Naseeruddin shah in Sparsh(Hindi movie) - equal to the task .

Oscar's always do that overdue an award for specific actors. I guess this approach pressures the actors to do more movies and not be able to leverage salary on productions. Most awardees take easy and high paying roles after an award.

@@kingwithoutacrown1 yeah he is very bland and ordinary but confidence goes a long way
@@fredrickaappletree3402 Fully concur. I would say that confidence is half the battle, if not more. There are people who are experts in faking confidence.

Tango is a treasury of human being. This scene makes me cry all the time. I love it so much!
Screenplay writer for Scent of a Woman, Bo Goldman, said, "If there is a moral to the film, it is that if we leave ourselves open and available to the surprising contradictions in life, we will find the strength to go on." 2:34
Source: English Wikipedia
“Por una Cabeza” is one of the most well-known “tango” music created in 1935. Carlos Gardel composed the music and Alfredo Le Pera wrote the lyrics. The title “Por una Cabeza” means “with a head (of a horse)” in Spanish. 3:00
It portrays the story of a man who lost everything after betting on a horse race, including the woman he admires. “Por una Cabeza,” i.e., “to lose by a head,” signifies the distance his horse lost in that race.

By some correspondence, proportion or symmetry, it can be said that: The Argentine national team won the World Cup against France with great difficulty. By only a head! 3:01
