CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Frank (Al Pacino) teaches the beautiful and charming Donna (Gabrielle Anwar) how to dance the tango.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Driven by an extravagant, tour-de-force performance by Al Pacino, Scent of a Woman is the story of Frank Slade (Pacino), a blind, retired army colonel who hires Charlie Simms (Chris O'Donnell), a poor college student on the verge of expulsion, to take care of him over Thanksgiving weekend. At the beginning of the weekend, Frank takes Charlie to New York, where he reveals to the student that he intends to visit his family, have a few terrific meals, sleep with a beautiful woman and, finally, commit suicide. The film follows the mis-matched pair over the course of the weekend, as they learn about life through their series of adventures. Though the story is a little contrived and predictable, it pulls all the right strings, thanks to O'Donnell's sympathetic supporting role and Pacino's powerful lead performance, for which he won his first Academy Award. Scent of a Woman is based on the 1975 Italian film Profumo Di Donna.

To everyone who disliked this scene because of technique, it wasn’t supposed to be perfect. He was blind, she was a beginner. It was about the beauty of the scene, i loved it 🌹
Dear, you are lovely and dislikers are just poor things.
Love it. Think it's on Netflex, Gonna watch this when get home.
whatcha takn bout, it was perfect
Actually this scene made me love ballroom dancing
It's about a love of dance and life, not showing off what "I can do". :)
Gabrielle Anwar explained that she went through "a yearlong audition process that ultimately resulted in two days of work and became just seven minutes of the film". But what an absolutely magical seven minutes. She captured the shyness, nervousness, growing confidence, excitement, chemistry and fun perfectly. She also never rehearsed with Pacino, by his design. Making it very spontaneous.
👋👋👋
One of the most memorable scenes in the movie. She earned it
I've never seen any of her other films but this performance was immortal. She melted the screen with her combination of innocence and sensuality, not to mention a fabulous dance scene. Hollywood magic right there
@@nedroulston9543 She was just a prop. AL WAS THE STAR.
@@littleme3597 never heard that it takes two to tango??? no "props" here. 2 wonderful performers!!!
I used to play violin and was a teenager when I first saw this movie, and this scene in particular. It did smth with me and I went straight to my violin professor and said that I heard the most beautiful tango melody and that I wanted us to play it (he had a little tango orchester that I was also part of). But there was no internet back then and I did not know the name of the piece, just the movie, so my dear prof. Milev rented a VHS, listened to it multiple times and wrote down every single voice of each instrument. And gave me the honour to play the 1st violin. That is now over 25 years, I stopped playing violin and moved to a different country, but I still have those keys that his own hand wrote down. And I will keep and treasure them for as long as I live.
Wow! Incredible!
Filme belíssimo!

Al Pacino has great eye control in playing a blind man. Watch his eyes they do not move through out the whole movie .
He had lenses on his eyes, he really could not see. Great acting.
@@billkelly8477 Wrong!
@@billkelly8477 He didn't have any lenses. And no... he was not blind. He could see everything! He's just that good of an actor that he makes you believe he's really blind! He went on to watch and learn real blind people to prepare for this performance.

Same with her ... at first she is cautious and shy, then by the end she is enjoying herself.
one of the most beautiful movie scenes I'll ever see in my lifetime.
Yes, Pacino deservedly won an Oscar for this movie, and he's amazing in this scene. Gabrielle Anwar's performance is so underrated here. Her character's innocence is what makes the scene work just as much as Pacino's strength.

One of the best and most touching scenes of cinema ever seen. A well-deserved Oscar for Al Pacino.
Long overdue. Should have been a 2nd or 3rd at that point.
This scene is probably one of the top 10 reasons I’ve gotten into tango 6 years ago.
Watched this film maybe ten times in my whole life, it wasn’t until 2017 when I watched it again for the 7th time where I went “know what? I wanna learn the tango, I don’t care if I’m not great, I just wanna be like Pacino.”
Do you tangle on still ?

old movies are so much richer in the emotions than those now
That I agree...
Well its not too old 1992...what would be with a film from 1940' 50 60' them are grear too
@@workinprogress6282 They are richer in everything.
I don't know about that. I think you have to watch the right movies. I think the argument could be made that Toy Story, The Lion King, Gladiator, Titanic, Armageddon....that these are all very emotional movies. This idea that things in the past are better gets thrown around a lot. I love when old people say older music was less repetitive and more unique or even less vulgar....It couldn't be farther from the truth. Ever heard the song Wipeout? Ever heard My Big Ten Inch? Grease Lightening? No, older isn't better. It is just older.
That means youre not watching the right (modern) movies haha
There are still lots of "emotional" movies nowadays
For me, what makes this scene so enchanting is its portrayal of something theoretically impossible to be captured by a camera - the vibrant essence of life. Just as many comments have rightly pointed out, Gabrielle's contribution should not be overlooked. Apart from the undeniable vitality displayed by Al Pacino's character, Gabrielle's emergence from waiting and her attempt at tango also embody this vitality. For me, this is one of the most captivating aspects of this work, as it has the power to move any viewer who can appreciate the beauty of life
Gabrielle Anwar lit up the screen with her radiant innocence. She was so tender, so delicate in her beauty and ever so slightly... one day she was gone, leaving only the scent of a woman.
This scene always puts a smile on my face.
Me too. It also makes me sad, because Al's character Frank seemed happy here and was having fun, and he gave that young woman a moment she'd remember the rest of her life, not to mention got more of Charlie's awe and respect, but Frank was planning to commit suicide the whole time. I guess we never know the depths and ways we've touched others' lives, even if we feel like losers, huh?
Al Pacino and Chris O’Donnell’s chemistry was top notch and perfectly cast. I loved it.
Totally. Such a feel good scene. Can't help but smile along with it. 🙂

Some people could never recognize the power that cinema holds.
Pacino absolutely nailed this role, for some reason he is able to convey so many emotions when he acts; i love everything about this scene, the way he asks her and the way he dances with that look on his face, he actually does look blind. That’s probably what i love about Pacino the most: his characters feel so real, he becomes them, truly one of the greatest actors ever.
This movie is what of the reason Pacino is the Pantheon of artistry. His portrayal of he forgotten soldier who was blind and forgotten and no longer able to live the glory days but taken one last tour of the delicacies of existence while no longer been able to see but able to dance the Tango the way he did, smashed all other contenders for the Oscar. A remarkable performance. I absolutely love this movie.

He's supreme. I have never seen an actor playing a blind man so convincingly. His dance is an extra plus, of course.
From what I read, Al Pacino did lots of research as to how blind people get around, how they dealt with the depression of knowing they couldn't see anymore and how they would do things like light a cigar.

Tango is a treasury of human being. This scene makes me cry all the time. I love it so much!
Screenplay writer for Scent of a Woman, Bo Goldman, said, "If there is a moral to the film, it is that if we leave ourselves open and available to the surprising contradictions in life, we will find the strength to go on." 2:34
Source: English Wikipedia
“Por una Cabeza” is one of the most well-known “tango” music created in 1935. Carlos Gardel composed the music and Alfredo Le Pera wrote the lyrics. The title “Por una Cabeza” means “with a head (of a horse)” in Spanish. 3:00
It portrays the story of a man who lost everything after betting on a horse race, including the woman he admires. “Por una Cabeza,” i.e., “to lose by a head,” signifies the distance his horse lost in that race.

By some correspondence, proportion or symmetry, it can be said that: The Argentine national team won the World Cup against France with great difficulty. By only a head! 3:01
@@GjaP_242 wonderful explanation! Thank you. :) I wanna learn to dance Tango in Buenos Aires soon. :)
You're joking right 🤣🤣.. It's an awkwardly awful scene and what Tango even is this it doesn't even look like any Tango
When you watch it closer you`ll see that people starts looking at them just for a glance, but when the music gets intense people can`t take their look away from dancers, they don`t realise they are a blind man and a beginner, yet they enjoy it and smile.
3:31 - We can see Al Pacino counting with his lips, counting the length of the room they are dancing in.
This scene is motherfuckign impeccable.
When Al Pachino offers to teach you to dance, take it.
IKR
I like it very mutch
Pls Pacino not Pachino
Al's charm, is unstoppable, even when he plays a blind lieutenant
A trivia said he practiced this character with his eyes unfocused for hours a day. Eventually hard work pays off and his facial expressions seemed never out of his place for even a single second or a single frame
Several times a year I find myself seeking out the video. I can never get enough of it.
He is definitely a gentleman, sometimes a mafia boss, many women love this type of man.
Omar Liu Yes you are so right.... so right!
I personally don’t care about the mafia part, just a gentleman :)
he's also a man of wealth and taste
He also has a little friend.
@I Was Here If you read the comment carefully you will find that he wrote 'many woman' and not 'all woman'.
I'm in my 70s and this scene always swells my heart.
It's about a man at his best inspite of incredible odds.
One of the most moving and best performed scenes in cinema history. The tango song is sublime.
Everybody praises Pacino but Piazolla and his orchestra gave us an incredible version of "Por una cabeza". And thank you Carlos Gardel and Alfredo Lepera, for this masterpiece.
I haven't seen the movie, had heard of it many times from others. I liked the scene, her poised expressions intially looked lady like, which quickly transformed to childlike as he gave her a nice experience! 🎉🎉Sweet.
She starts off stiff and nervous, ends smiling with joy.
Todosuceso es por algo nada es porque si.cracias por la nota. Deborah.

Yes of course, the way to a woman's heart being through dancing, giving her reassurance, conveying acceptance interest and appreciation. The woman needs support for her femininity, we get little attention as children compared to the outgoing boys, making a negative cycle we have to heal and turn around..Boys get empowerment from childhood and also feel their worth more naturally, creating a good circle.
El poder de un buen tango y un buen acompañante.
That’s the power of Al Pacino.
