Skip the slow on the tango close. From there you can head directly into a tango walk, rock, left turning figure, etc. In the old Fred Astaire syllabus we would always do two pivots. Not consecutively, but rather after the two slows in promenade coming out of the pivot we would do another then finish with the tango close. If the pivot is turning a 1/2 turn each time you are able to keep it down the line of dance. Another more interesting finish would be to do a single pivot to the left(i.e. Reverse pivot) into a left turning promenade. Therefore getting practice in both directions. I think overall they are keeping it basic and allowing for choreography by keeping the timing as an option.
