"It's currently snowing in Madrid, one of the problems of living in this city"
Coming from Wisconsin where it's cold as all hell for 6 months out of the year, I'LL TAKE IT.
Live near Chicago and i feel your probem
Personally, I enjoy having seasons.
I have watched a number of the video blogs posted by Stuart and I have to say that I find them to be concise, informative and entertaining.
Nice to hear from another mature teacher who clearly has some experience under his belt. I find that so many of these videos are people who are newbies to teaching and even more so newbies to ESOL.
Stewart
I have no particular interest in Spain or intention to go there, so why do I find your clips such compulsive viewing?
Great information about a place I'd never really given much thought to. It's good to get an objective view on another country and its culture.... You seem to give a very reasonable and balanced insights into the place. Keep up the good work.
Good insights - I’ve been doing a similar blog in respects to the hours that you have to dedicate to this job. It’s certainly a change of mentality if you’ve been working in an office all your life. The change of locations really is a blessing if you like moving around. Keep up the good work!
Great video my friend! I'm from Texas and will be moving to Spain in 1 month and these tips really help.
You have Florida you not really have to go there
Having been an English teacher and proprietor of a school for forty odd years both in Brazil and Portugal I would say that two things are essential for being hired: a European passport, which allows you to work anywhere in the EU area, native speaker fluency, a university degree, and the CELTA teacher preparation course. You can get jobs both in Portugal and Spain without these qualifications but you will have to work illegally with no contract, at less serious schools (Wall Street?) and at lower pay, with no benefits. Our school, for example, cannot hire anyone without a EU passport.
thanks. I've been thinking probably doind that in Spain.
thank you very much for the video. It's a dream of my wife and myself to move to Spain. Im currently working in learning/speaking the language. I feel teaching Englush us what I will do, and my wife is a caregiver for the elderly, and hoping she'll find work as well. Thanks again for akl the info , its very insightful.
Very helpful. My daughter wants to teach English in Spain. I forwarded your Channel to her. Thanks for taking time to educate us.
Yiayia Does she have a degree?
Also looking at the block hours do you think its worth picking up work from Asia to fit around the spare time? Although I find the rates are a bit lower (Teaching online).
Great video! What part of Australia are you from? I'm from Sydney and am looking at teaching in Spain next year.
Thank you.
Thank you for your very informative video. I'm a 66 year old Aussie very close to taking the plunge and trying to seek work in Madrid. is there a prejudice against age in Madrid for teaching professionals? I plan on taking a TEFL course although I already have the CELTA and a TESOL, plus I'm a qualified teacher. Earlier career was a lawyer. Look forward to hearing from you.
That guy at 6:30 looks sketch :P
I have a question, what company/program/organization did you find that allowed you to apply for an English teaching job in Spain? I have had a lot of trouble just finding job opportunities (let alone applying for any) in Spain (and Europe altogether). Any insight would be useful! Thanks a million!
Hello, hola buenos dias, thanks for your interesting vlog about teaching english in Spain, I suppose you got also contacts with other teachers there, teaching german for example, is the demand of that kind of lessons as well as for the english ones? Gracias de antemano, que pasen un buen dia 😊
Hi there! Thank you for the insight. My husband and I are teachers of English, and we both hold CELTA and PhD degree in TESOL. Being non-native passport holders, do you think there are job prospects for us in Spain?
Great information!
It seems as an English teacher in Spain you are very unlikely to have a “regular job” as a teacher in a school. Here in the USA a teacher dies about a 40 hour week more or less. The closest to that was the academy deal from 5 pm onward each weeknight I presume?
What are block hours? What is “in company?”
Thanks!
It is good to see an Aussie doing this, are there many others in Spain?
Hi ..love Spain speaks.... what are block hours ? Thanks
Interesting stuff.
Nice video! ...what happened to the Subaru? Where is the Subaru?!!
6:30 I am crying when the guy is spying on you thinking he is hidden LMAO. Also very helpful video thank you... Do you know if there are many teaching opportunities in the South/Andalucia e.g. Alicnate, Seville etc
Thanks for the great vid Stuart. I'm a highly experienced non-native English teacher . I'm 42 years old with over 20 years of teaching experience at language schools as well as some universities. I would like to know if age matters and of course being non-native. I would appreciate the response. I'm an Iranian by the way. I'm a guitar player as well.Thanks.
Hello nice video can you help me with one of the company's websites please
Link to employers to hire please
Great info! Do you need a university degree in order to teach English in Spain? If not, where can you go to get trained to teach English? Cheers :)
hey man im from australia finished year 12, i haven't gone to university but i can speak fluent spanish. i have some time and am able to study but i would like to get there as soon as possible, i may even have the opportunity to become a national.
good videos, how much do you charge to teach English face to face or via Skype?
I already spend a lot of time on public transport in Albuquerque, NM. Have for 20 years. Gaps in my schedule? That sounds like a nice problem to have. In all seriousness, that means I would have enough time to make sure I could become self-employed as a tutor eventually.
What if your an American how long does there working visa last ?
Great vid, thank you, 😁 do I need to have gone to university to degree in English, or can I still get by teaching English with just a TEFL course. My first language is english, I'm Irish. Thanks
Yo, Irish too. Thinking of doing a CELTA but I have no degree. What I've gathered from my research is that it might make life a little harder, and might exclude you from some jobs, but it's doable and others have definitely done it. I went to a CELTA open night in UCC recently and the coordinators of the CELTA course there told me it's not a major stumbling block.
I am a South African citizen looking for a teaching job in Spain. Qualified Maths teacher and TEFL certified, too. Any recommendations on programs, companies, etc???
Hi! Could you, also, please talk a bit about finding an English teaching job in Spain? Where do I even start looking?
ESL base or Love TEFL
Hi, I have done B.A in English and currently doing MBA in English. How can I get a job there. Can you please help me with it.
As a self employed teacher, what’s your visa situation?
Thank you for your video. Do you know if french teacher are wanted also in spain?
french is not needed in spain...we have a good level of french, because it was conpulsory to study french for many years, and many people migrated to france and later returned to spain
Loved the video, but random question....what’s a kip? Lol. I’m American so I’m not quite privy to British terminology
Nap/sleep
Great video thanks for posting
Nice video!
¡Buen vídeo!
Hello, I have a question about the TELF accreditation. When I look at the school accreditation what accreditation is the official one? I see that the schools have different ones and they all say they are official and to watch out for others schools. Which one do you have?
Hi, CELTA is the one I have.
Hi, are TEFL course providers like TTMadrid and TEFL Madrid Academy genuine and reliable? Their 4 week course is €1300 or so. I'm wondering how big a risk is it to go with one of these two academies? are their reviews genuine? Do you know of graduates from their academies teaching successfully?
I am simply looking to live in parts of Spain, more for the experience / cultural aspects. I am retired so working per say is nothing I need to worry about. Coming from the U.S.A. and being bilingual (Spanish) - the language barrier is not an issue. Its simply doing it...!
6:34😂
Hello how do I find English teaching job in school in spain?
Has anyone taught English in Spain without a degree?
My friend and I wish to come teach in Spain but we have no degrees. We just obtained a TEFL certificate in USA but we are South African.
Mbali Maseko what I’ve learned from my research is that it is possible to do in Spain without a degree.
Hello
Would you be able to recommend where I could look into training for teaching English?
A Lynne TTMadrid is the best to obtain a TEFL certificate.
I earn 20 euros an hour from my Spanish students teaching online. It saves on all the travelling but it’s not always regular.
what about non native speakers? Is it difficult to find teaching jobs?
thanks for uploading this video! I was thinking on moving to Spain to teach English and this video was pretty helpful it changed my mind actually after watching this I'm gonna stay in brasil and finish college. I do teach English here but life in brasil have changed to the worst because of unstable government. my dream is to move to Spain and I'm planning on moving after I graduate. do you know if employment for engineers in Spain in high? will I be able to find a job as an engineer in Madrid ?
Lina Khodr yes
Lina,
There is a very high unemployment rate in Spain.
If you engineering degree is not about building real estate, then you could do ok, *if* you have a high degree of knowledge in your field, *and* have the job on hand *before* you move to Spain.
Note that Portuguese *is* different from Spanish, so it is possible that you couldn't been understand easily.
You could also move to Portugal - job situation is as bad as in Spain - but it helps a lot to be fluent in the local language - and that can open doors for you.
Lars Hansen thank you for taking your time to write a reply. I am studying petroleum engineering I'll graduate next year. I've been once in Spain and fell in love with the country. as my parents are from Lebanon learning a new language is not difficult for me as I already know five. but I'll take what you said into consideration and do more research about this.
+Lina Khodr It depends on what profession you have. Some kind of studies have a good demand, My son is finishing, at the Business school management in Vigo (Galicia) and already has a job for Deloitte (antique Arthur Andersen). I don't know on Engineers of Petroleum.
I'd study Spanish and meanwhile, I'd send your CV everywhere you can by email. You'll need a good level in English, too, at least "Advanced" (by Cambridge) or an equivalent level. We speak in Galicia a language similar to Portuguese, Galician also Castillian. Indeed, Galicia is next to Portugal.
BTW! I have some family in Sao Paulo! Forget about the unemployment! Most of the unemployment is among people without any studies, but for other kinds of jobs, you can find something. Anyway, it isn't easy to start abroad. Good luck!
Pedro.
Pedro M. thank you for replying! what you wrote is very helpful. OMG, I'm from São Paulo hehe
do you have a degree and is that required in Spain? particularly in the private schools/ academies?
Hi, always good to have a degree. It is required by a lot of places. If you don't have one, then a TEFL qualification is a must.
Stuart! Is it necessary to hold a masters degree in the English language to teach English in Spain ?
no, just being an english native speaking
Normally you need a bachelor degree plus trinity/celta. If you have a masters in linguistics that opens up various career opportunities but it's definitely not a requirement. You could wing it with no qualifications but clearly not ideal, and I imagine that it would be hard to find work in a typical language school.
great info ;)
Would you say CELTA offers more opportunity than TESOL?
Hi, I don't think there is much of a difference. Both will get you a job easily here.
Thanks for that as I have a TESOL certificate and currently looking at teaching online where possible (we are right on the coast so not sure if the demand would be great yet as I have managed to keep work going from the UK up until this week). How would you recommend marketing? What did you find works best?
Hi again, I'd recommend getting work through language companies in Madrid. Give some of the bigger ones a call, tell them you want phone classes, and you should be ok. You might have to come here for an interview but worth a try. Trying to find clients online can take time, especially if you don't have a niche.
Would you recommend teaching english in Spain for someone who actually wants to move there permanently and build a savings and life for themselves there? I've heard the money you make from teaching english allows a comfortable standard of living but doesn't allow you to save. Which makes me think teaching english in Spain is just a temporary experience. How has it been building your life there for 18 years so far?
Hi, send me a direct email or FB message and I'll fill you in. You can find them on the main channel page.
Thanks for the great insights, Sir! It's a dream for me to teach in Spain, someday. =) I noticed that you highlighted it's "easy if you're NATIVE". How about for us, Non-native speakers? Can you give me ideas too on the estimate rates / hr? I'm a Degree holder, with TEFL and about 3yrs online English teaching exp. Thanks and more power!
Hi, with those qualifications you should be ok.
Appreciate your immediate reply, thx! Any ideas Sir on the rates for exp'd Non-native Teachers? (Proud Filipino here) Are there existing programs that you can recommend for me to easily land a good teaching job? I've seen some here in youtube, however mostly for Native speakers. Or shall I just send applications online? Or try my luck on a tourist visa and check my luck personally? Thanks so much in advance
Hi, if you are planning to come here, then the second option is your best bet. Remember that it is not easy to work here if you are not an EU passport holder.
Thanks Sir. More power! 😊
Is it easy to get a doctor or dentist job in spain? I'm very curious if you know please answer! :)
there is plenty of jobs as dentist or doctor, but you need to pass the spanish exam
Where are you from? D they require an EU citizenship to work
Anzelle De Wet Citizenship isn’t required to work but a work visa would be.
How much do you earn teaching English in Spain?
very low salaries in spain...and only part time jobs...
sir where can we possibly find a student? I want to teach children.
Hello sir
I am Vishal from India
Sir can you tell the process for gatting english teaching job in spain who is not have any formal digree for teaching or in English like me...
There must be thousands of people teaching English language in Spain..is there really that much demand ?
I know where we are there is a change in direction a strong push for Valencian over English teaching within the primary schools. So would assume that with less opportunities there would be more people wanting to learn.
yes, we have a very low english level, not like in the north of europe...and lot's of english speaking tourists or english as a second language of communication for commerce is needed too and programming apps....
Is Spain is a peaceful country with no crime or easy to please everybody or dangerous country to live.
Titus Santos very peaceful
it depends on the neighbourghood...but in general pacific, ...like all the european occident
Spain is very safe.
Islamic terrorists now
If you are self employed can I have job working with you big man? I used to live in Barcelona for 2 years and want to move back to Spain.
Do you need teaching experience before you come?
Hi, it is not necessary but it helps. Good idea to have a qualification like CELTA, too.
Thanks so much for your response! I'll definitely look into getting a CELTA!
casi 1 millón de ingleses en España...... Nos sobran profesores...No llaméis más, no hay trabajo para todo el planeta tierra en España. 21% de paro....20% de Inmigración....
I didn't know there was actual pros lol
