You really solved my problem, thank you!
Super helpful! I have a video shoot tomorrow that requires my rig to be overhead and I was dreading going up and down the ladder all day. I have the BR-E1 and sadly it doesn't work in Cinema Mode. I just tested my pocket wizard shutter trigger setup and it worked like a charm!
FYI - The BR-E1 Canon remote also doesn't seem to allow high speed shutter release in photo mode, whereas my pocket wizard set up does.
Glad it helped you out thanks for watching🍍
great video, thanks for the infos
Hi,
thank you for your insightful video. I’ve used the remote shutter function in my R6 and the R5, in conjunction with the Canon Camera Connect app on my iPad to achieve precise control over focus and recording. After connecting the remote shutter button to the dedicated port (as you did), I switch to Video mode, select AF mode, but disable Servo AF. Then, I pair the camera with the app using Wi-Fi and launch the Remote Viewing feature. Once connected, I can remotely control various aspects of the camera, including selecting the focus area, while pressing the remote shutter button adjusts the focus itself. (Start/Stop recording is triggered by pressing the record button on the app.) This system works really well on the R6, R6mii and the R5. Now, let me get to the point:
I wanted to buy the R5C and thought that a similar system of remote viewing and focus adjustment would be available on that camera, until I discovered that the R5C uses a completely different menu in the Video mode. What I’ve learnt so far is that a remote shutter button will, as you have shown, trigger the start/stop recording function, but this for me is only a part of the game. I wanted to combine this with some form of remote viewing to select the focus area, and then remotely adjust the focus itself. And this is where I found the problem: The R5C will just not pair with the Camera Connect app!
Canon's Camera Connect official compatibility list does not include the R5C, further indicating that remote viewing and focus adjustment are simply not supported (although the picture of the R5C is shown within the app itself). Some users have reported that the R5C may connect to the app when paired with an external Wi-Fi grip, such as the WFT-R10, others say that this pairing will be limited to the Photo mode and will not provide any remote control in the Video mode. I do not have access to the Wi-Fi grip so have no way of testing these claims.
The question is: Is there a way to remotely view, set the focus and start/stop recording VIDEO on the R5C?
Do you have any thoughts on this? I look forward to hearing your views and suggestions.
Very best regards, Alan
The only way I have found to remote view and adjust camera settings is using the DJI Ravin Eye on my RS3 Pro Gimble. It will transmit the video signal over Wi-Fi and the DJI Ronin App (Android and Apple compatible) allows you to adjust camera settings ISO F-stop etc. You can also manually pull focus if you use the Focus Motor. The Canon R5 C in video mode is geared more towards professional videographers with not a lot of bells and whistles. It is working extremely well for my needs, and I have programed multiple buttons to do functions which is a nice option to have over the photo camera line. One thing I learned recently once you have all your settings the way you like them you can back them up to the SD card and save them on your PC. You go to System Setup (Wrench Icon) on menu 1 select Transfer Menu CP and you can then save to the SD card. It creates a Personal Folder that stores the file. The folder will be deleted when you initialize the media so make sure you back it up. Thanks for watching and commenting🍍
Thank you for this video. The remote!!!! I have a Canon R5C and I've been loving it step by step :-) But the most frustating thing is how difficult is to use the APP via Ethernet for sending video wireless. Thank you again for you time.
Thanks for watching. I am really liking my R5C as well becoming second nature with all of the buttons that are customizable. The auto iris is handy when changing environments on the fly. 🍍
Great video and super helpful im about to get an r5c and am worried about power. About how much run time do you get with the npc style battery?
I have not actually timed it because I have not had any issue with it eating up the battery. I normally use an NP-F750 and it will last several hours. I sometimes us even a much smaller one and it will last a good amount of time. I normally shoot 4K 30 fps or 60 fps so not doing the 8K that need more power. 🍍
How long did the camera run with the KONDOR Blue and the NPF-750? Did you shoot @ 8k60?
The longest I have had the camera on with intermittent recording was about six hours and the 750 Battery was still good. I have tested the 8K and it works but I do not use it in my work flow but it is nice to be able to have it if needed.
What is the remote trigger listed under
This is the Remote Trigger I am using it is Better Quality then the one I showed in the video - amzn.to/46wlp9N The one I showed in the video is this one - amzn.to/3YQGtoZ
Isn't this going to damage the camera since you are putting 12 volts into it through USB-C? Out put on those batteries is 7.2V, bot sure if the plate has a transformer in it to bump it up to 12V? Do you know. Thx
The Kondor Blue cable has a voltage regulator in it and steps down the voltage. I have been using it for over a year with no problems. I frequently have the camera on for the entire day. 🍍
With this setup is it possible to use AF on lens and shoot 50fps 8K raw?
Yes, it provides the USB PD which will give full power for the 8K video and lens Auto Focus. I have used it a hand full of times.
Thanks for watching. 🍍
i have the same setting and gears , but it didn’t show PD , i don’t know why😢
when i turn off R5c the np-f970u battery keep charging the camera, but when i turn on my r5c , no power received from npf battery and only using the power from canon lpe6nh battery and not show the ‘PD’
Make sure you are plugged into the 12 Volt port on the battery adapter plate. Hope that does the trick for you.
It might be possible you have received a bad Kondor Blue Power Cable. That is strange it will charge it but not do the USB-PD.
I have original Canon Bluetooth remote control and it works with R6 in video mode, both trigger and AF. Very strange thar R5c doesn't work with it.
The R5C has the cinema operating system which is most likely why it will not work. The camera has a split system, Photo and Video. When you change the mode, it reboots into a different operating system. The remotes from Canon work on the Photo Side only at least for now. It is strange that the Canon 90D I have works with the Bluetooth remote and infrared for video, but the much more expensive cameras do not like the 5D will only work with the infrared remote. Thanks for watching 🍍
@@Pineapple22 you are writie, I've forgotten about separate video mode. I think Canon should do firmware update.
