  • On our week-long roadtrip through Albania, we made a stop in Gjirokaster, a beautiful mid-size town with some fascinating history and one incredible castle!
At the top of a hill visible from pretty much anywhere in town sits a massive castle. The castle is probably the best-preserved one we've seen and had so many rooms to walk around and explore. The fact that it was well preserved made it feel more lively than others we've been in and in many of the rooms we felt like we could imagine what people would have been doing here hundreds of years ago.
One room, the bakery, was especially cool because the stains on the wall made it seem as if bread has just stopped being baked. The dungeons were quite eerie as well.
We finished off the day with some amazing moussaka, beans, and a traditional dessert and felt very content with our day.
We hope you enjoy watching our first day in this town! Join us back in our next video to see part 2 in Gjirokaster :)

What ottoman architecture you talking about? Why is it that all you tourists comment on something that you are clueless? Ottoman/Turks never built anything but tried to destroy everything. The only thing they try to build is mosques in the place of churches. Who built these cities before the ottoman occupation? Please don’t talk nonsense if you don’t know of the history. Albanians have a continuous history in that region at least 6000 years.
