You must go up North and visit Theth and Valbona. Also try eating at Mrizi i Zanave, and do the boat tour of the Shala river and there is accomodation near there as well.
Aside from the UNESCO sites, you might want to check out the ones on the tentative list as well. For example, there are Apollonia Archaeological Park and Fortress of Bashtova on the list, which both seem to be a good stop on the way to Duress later.
Whaaaa... so beautiful! I get amazed when visiting historic sites like this stone city. SO beautiful - just imagine living there! That stone carver tho... whaaaaa????!??! Sick with the chisel skills! The food looks great too so interesting that the meatball soup was creamy and sour. I get sad when I travel with my parents all they want is to put kimchi on everything they eat - IN OTHER COUNTRIES! I try to explain to them that we should be visiting not to have their cultures accommodate ours, but for us to try and understand what they are about. Food doesn't have to be meeting our standards of what good is.. I mean if it tastes great - then that's a plus! But, I believe in my humble opinion, the best way to get an experience is to really let down your guard and dive deep just like Steve and Ivana to get the best experience and taste of what their culture is about. Sorry for the rant - Great episode guys!
This place is super amazing. I love the atmosphere and the archaic structures and environment, just looks like a relaxing place to live in. Have a great time exploring Albania my great friends 😊
How ironic. You went to Gjirokastër. I live on the other city of the mountain. If you see the mountains on the other side of it is Përmet. I wished you guys came here but still glad you went to Gjirokastër. A beautiful city.

I'm new to your channel, I started watching your vlogs three days ago, and I just binged on all your Pakistan videos. From Lahore and Islamabad to Hunza and all over the north. Every conversation, reaction, covering all the emotional highs and lows. By the time I was done with your last vlog today I was weeping like a kid. It was genuinely like losing a family member, and I became desperately sad about you leaving. It's funny how you can forge deep connections with people you've never met in real life. Ivana, you're smart, very intuitive and gorgeous, and Steve doesn't have a mean bone in his body. I can genuinely say I love you both, and also say thank you for making yourselves part of our lives, and thank you for sharing these journeys in such an intimate way. Love from Lahore ❤️
Wow what a special comment. This is means a lot to us. But don't be sad! We will be back in Pakistan soon enough -- for Karachi, Peshawar, Swat, and maybe more :)
These bazaars are up and alley, lots of crafts , hidden trickets that might have never seen then. Exquisite work by the craftman....Yup, antique....$$$$$ LOL... What a day ..Stay safe, happy exploring
Hi guys 👋 this is amazing waking up to this beautiful view , ok finally you arrived Gjirokaster 👍🏻 love the local products at the shops and of course the the old castle and the story behind it , 👏🏻feel like we’re back in time really beautiful the vintage hotel 👏🏻 awesome guys , hope for more videos thanks 🙏🏻
The stone roofing might be a good idea if there is an earthquake, as if they are loose, rather than collapsing they can all slide off. Little bit of climbing involved in getting to the best spots, but the views were incredible. Some amazing stone carving there and a guty happy in his work, they would make great roof tiles. Always nice to see how people lived in the past.
That castle/ fortress is so cool! Ah köfte is also eaten in Turkey! I love köfte!!!😋 Love the bazaar with crafts and antiques! The soup might have yogurt!

Two of my favorite dishes I grew up with. My grandmother cooked them all the time. My grandfather was from Gjirokaster and my mom was born there. It's a town with a lot of history. Glad you guys like our food. Yes, we're not much into spices as we like to taste authentic flavor of each ingredient. Pilaf is an example.
