For those of you that might be building your own 6mm ARC upper: some of the barrels out there actually have the gas block out at a farther position than rifle length. If your 18" (or longer) barrel comes with a gas block and gas tube, this might be the case. In my case, the gas block stuck out about an inch passed the 15" handguard that I intended to use, and it took me a lot of searching to find a handguard that was long enough to cover the gas block, but not so long that it got in the way of the muzzle device. I eventually found a 16.5" from Hera Industries that does the job.
What is really crazy is the US navy used the Lee Navy rifle in 6mm all the way back in 1895, and they even made arguments that this was the future of bullet technology that small high velocity rounds out perform larger slower bullets in tissue disruption etc. This is in a era when some guns still shot giant 11mm bullets and German Mausers would adopt 7.92x57. 6.5x55 Swedish (1894), 6.5 Jap (1897), 6.5 Carcano (1890), 6.5 Mannlicher (1892) etc... To nail something so close to the invention of smokeless powder only to semi-abandon it seems odd like you said, but if I had to guess it was because of the ever present logistical desire of militaries for ammo parity between arms, and the notion arose that a smaller bullet like 6mm would be insufficient in its role as an emplaced or light machine gun caliber, so they scaled everything up, with small arms following. Just a guess...
Things come full circle eventually in ballistics. There's lots of great advancement in ballistic technology, but physics are always the constant in that equation.
I've been on the 6ARC bandwagon for a minute now and I am blown away with the performance. I keep telling my buddies to pick one up but they have to see to believe. I see no use for a large frame for my needs going forward, huge 6ARC fan!
They filled a niche that was already filled by 6.5 Grendel. That's why nobody is buying these, and all these companies are begging people to review it to try and make it mainstream
@@youreright7534SOCOM just bought 500,000 rounds of it, not to mention both their Army and Navy branches are using it. That’s further than Grendel ever got lol
It’s a great round but man trying to get past 2500 fps out of a 18 in barrel is kinda meh man. I’ve had great accuracy with mine but that velocity hurts. Better performer than 5.56 in the energy department that’s for sure. Thumb’s point though about low recoil and follow up shots is valid though. More velocity would mean more recoil.
@@MagicMahn well that’s kinda the thing. It’s not a close range round if you need max velocity up close. But keep in mind a 105gr 6mm bullet loses velocity at half the rate that 77gr 5.56 does. By 250 yards or so, 6mm ARC is actually traveling FASTER than the Mk262 out of the same barrel length
Welcome to the club! The 6 ARC came out in 2020 and it's become my favorite round to shoot. Hitting targets at long range with no recoil puts a smile on my face every time.
Its indeed very nice round to be shooting for free at range or active range with slight impact possible with :D Any warfare - it gives away you're sof, as its caughing quite specificly. But yeah, lets talk about that round when 6mm guns will press out AK from earth market. I'd like to use the round more often :D
@@thebadlander3608 small frame in this case refers to AR-15 styled rifles and large frame is AR-10. So he's talking about having large frame range and lethality in a small frame AR.
I'm sure some has corrected the comment at 23:20 regarding the upper. The AR upper works fine, and a 6ARC barrel fits fine as well as the BCG. You do need to change the bolt to the 6.5 Grendel size bolt. This is also the weak spot for the 6ARC as bolts do break on occasion. Built my 6ARC gasser a couple of years ago and enjoy it so much that this week I took possession of a Howa Mini-1500 6ARC bolt gun.
Actually Windrift is largely a factor of bullet speed. The six arc is considerably slower so it's going to drift more. Also wonder how much of my tax dollars went into developing something that's not even as good as a friggin 243 Winchester. Let's just take a fine little 243 and slow it down about 300 ft./s And sell it to the military is something new and amazing.
@@jcows12 Man I was hoping Mike compared 6.5G and 6ARC in the video. Debating on whether or not to keep mine. On the positive, range ammo is slowly creeping down in price.
You can do a 6arc build with a standard AR upper receiver, its just the bolt face that is different. Uses a 6.5 grendel bolt. Maybe Geissele makes a specific upper receiver for 6arc, but if you're putting one together yourself it doesn't require anything special besides the bolt and barrel.

Check out the new 100Gr ELD-VT from Hornady in 6.5mm. When loaded in the Grendel, it gives very similar trajectory to 1000 yards compared to the 108 gr ELDM in 6mm ARC.
6 arc is pretty cool I think. The factory offerings for ammo are limited but the potential is really unlocked when hand loaded. In a bolt gun you’re getting into 6BR ballistics and nearing the 6 creed. Pretty badass little round
I built a 26” bolt gun and by reloading I can push a 108ELDM to 2900fps. SuperSonic over 1400yds and it shoots 0.8MOA ten shot groups. Even factory 108’s shoot 2749fps with an SD of 5.7fps
@@HunterMikeWI yeah, it’s pretty badass. I’m running a br but after playing around with the arc, my next barrel is going to be an arc. Same performance but I can buy factory ammo in a pinch and don’t have to worry about feeding issues that the br has
@@K-bob_45 as far as what? The br or arc? 6BR and its variants are not known for great feeding. Takes a little bit of tuning with the magazine and stuff for it to work well.

Absolutely love my 6 ARC. Glad that I was able to get the 20” Compass Lake Engineering barrel before they shut down operations. Damn thing is an absolute hammer!
6mm ARC with the higher pressure out of a bolt gun is screaming fast. 6mm ARC has two different pressure ratings, one for gas guns and one for bolt guns.
This video made me super happy. I thought of this round back in 2021 and was pretty excited to see hornady come out with it. Now, with gt covering it, it might actually get popular enough to stick around.
Nice presentation. I bought a couple of cases of the Hornady 6ARC in 2020 when I couldn't find 6.5 Grendel (kind of a love affair there). Didn't ever get a barrel/upper for it. I went to a private range in Western North Carolina with 223/6.5G/308 devices and ran into a fellow using the 6ARC. He was able to best everything I had with me easily. Obviously mine aren't really ideal for 1000 yards. So now I'm looking for the best affordable option for an upper or complete rifle. Already picked up a few more boxes of custom loads to try it. Thanks for the video
@@methylmania I went with Proof's wrapped barrel, as I didn't want any barrel whip. It was about the same price as a normal barrel at the time. I think it's gone up quite a bit since then
@@cousland58 10-4 I'm thinking on building a long stick this fall. My ballistic advantage 18" shoots like a dream. .5 moa all day with factory horn. match eldms. They don't have a 24 available right now.
I had a 6mm ARC 20" that really dived deep on with bolt manufacturing materials and reloading. Hornady claims about 2750ft/s out of an 18" barrel. I have found that their statements are false, as shown on Mike's video there too. The flaw with this cartridge is that there are 2 SAAMI Specifications for 6mm ARC. One for semi-autos (ARs at 52k PSI), and one for bolt actions (62k PSI). The reasoning behind this is that the enlarged rim diameter compared to a 5.56, a 6mm ARC (which uses 6.5 grendel as parent case, and therein a 6.5grendel type 2 bolt) cannot exceed 52k PSI and will have too much bolt thrust force imparted onto the AR bolt locking lugs. This is the same for 6.5 grendel bolts. This is something that's been documented and known. If a manufacturer were to find whatever secret sauce metallurgy Ruger does in their SFAR (a small frame AR15 patterned rifle that shoots .308) and pair it with a 6mm ARC, I think they'd really be improving the cartridge-firearm system for reliability, and to handle the hotter loadings rearward forces. I would really encourage flannel daddy to really give the firearm a hard run to see how many rounds it would take to start seeing bolt lug sheering. Back to the difference of PSI, Semi-Auto according to SAAMI is rated for 52k PSI, and Bolt Actions are 62k PSI. This is on hornady's reloading database. Please note that when you purchase a box from Hornady, neither say whether it's specific for Bolt Actions or Semi-Autos. So, being the devious little creature I am, I buy a box of factory Hornady 108gr ELD-M and a box of Hornady 105gr BTHP "black" - same ammo flannel daddy shot. I set aside 5 bullets from each box of 20 to disassemble and measure everything about the cartridge, including the round, powder charge, the weights, length of brass, so on. I then calibrated a model on Gordon's Reloading Tool, and shot rounds to have it match up accordingly. What I found is that both of these rounds are at about 55-58k PSI depending on ambient temperature. that's 3-6k over SAAMI specifications for semi-autos, which is what this round is more commonly used for. As for the pressure issues aside, finding an adequate powder to get those single digit SDs those long range shooters desire is fairly difficult for higher grain bullets 95gr to 115gr and still getting decent velocity and complete powder burn. Many many times I've seen even out of my 20" 6mm Arc, getting incomplete powder burn with the typical high velocity loadings. That gives it velocity variations, and leads to vertical stringing - taking the shooter out of the equation. This cartridge really does shine though when using lower grain projectiles from 90gr and below, getting really nice results, even exceeding 3,000ft/s in some instances. Coyote and hog hunters in particular like this round for its effectiveness. TL;DR: PSI too hot for semi. Bolt go boom. small weight bullet good. Cheers from an autist.
@@steveelder5306 still not complete burn at temps below 75°F. Does get nice velocities though. Incredibly temp instable powder. I live in AK, and so that powder can be over pressured at 115°F and getting complete burn, but at any temps below 75°F, it falls flat on its face.
I had actually contacted CMMG in regards to this when I found out they were releasing a rifle in 6mm ARC. I asked if they planned to use the Mutant PowerBolt to utilize the larger 308 style bolt head to handle the stronger PSI of this cartridge to get the most out of what Hornady stated in it's advertisements. Unfortunately they decided to go the same route as everyone else when building around this cartridge. To me they really missed out on an opportunity given they have the equipment to build a perfect semi auto rifle for the 6mm ARC.
I checked the SAAMI spec for a reference to the 62K PSI spec you talked about and was unable to find it. Could you provide a reference SAAMI year and page number?
In 1988 in H.S. I designed a 6.5mm cartridge that used a cut down 7.62 NATO case. I designed it to fit intot he M16 and it never took off. I also designed a cartridge for police use in 1986 that took a 44 Rem Mag case and knecked it down to 5.56 to use 55gr. FMJ bullet. The idea was to put them in like 9.5 inch barreled revolvers to give Police Rifle like performance that took up very little space for use against people wearing body armour in early 1980's. I took mechanical drafting and architecture starting in middle school and took Industrial arts starting in middle school so by 6th grade I could stick weld and operate a metal break, lathe, end ill and metal shaper.
I assembled my 6mm ARC in 2022, hand made lower, Calvin Elite trigger, Grendel Hunter 22" Saturn Liberty barrel, matched bolt, Strike Industries J-Comp. It shoots < .5 moa, and easily and energetically rings steel at 1000 yards. It's a way better shooter than my AR10 in .308. The AR10 is heavy, fairly hard recoiling rifle, about 1 moa on a good day, and couldn't barely hit steel at 700 yards. I've had a few nice rifles, but amazed with my 6mm ARC, only cost about $1400.00. It's more expensive to shoot vs my 5.56 AR, but super fun!

I shot a 6mm arc precision rifle that a guy had built himself at my local range. Whoooo boy was it a fun gun. Really loved getting to use it the few shots he allowed me to get off. Interesting to learn more about it here!
Legitimize? Varmint dudes jumped on this immediately, at least nearly everyone i know and most of their aquaintances. Its a DOD gun also. Imo its gonna be hard to beat it in small frame if you remove the ammo avail factor. My personal builds in it are spot on awesome. Tuned to shoot butter soft and tac drivers. As is with most of the varmint crowd that grabbed it too. The new 6 max cartridge is pretty great too for lighter projectiles. 22 arc has also lit off in the varmint crowd, same as 6 arc, everyone ik, and their friends has or is in the process of it also. Is it the be all, end all for a fighting rifle? I dont think so, but it has its place for sure.

The only thing that amazes me is that it took the DOD this long to finally look at a .243 platform. I know it’s always a trade off between capacity and punch, but .243 has always been a proven deer hunting performer.
It honestly doesn't surprise me one bit, going back to the days of teddy Roosevelt and the rough riders facing bolt action mausers with trapdoor Springfield rifles our ordinance dept has always been behind on weaponry... They replaced the trapdoor single shots with the already obsolete 30/40 krag, panicked and copied the mauser 98 for the most part, they ended up paying a royalty on every 03 made to mauser due to patent infringement. They also screwed up the heat treat in the process which resulted in brittle actions that liked to shatter. It's been a clusterfokk since day one!

I built my dream 6 ARC rifle. It is a Radian Mod 1 17- inch rail with a 18-inch Boss CF Barrel (Proof Research all sold out), B5 Systems Collapsible Precision Stock and Grip, Accu Tac PC-4 Bipod with ARCA QD Mount, Odin Works Trax ARCA Rail and a longer Armaspec ARCA Rail for the tripod. Geissele SSP Flat Bow trigger, PA PLx-C FFP Griffin Reticle, SLR Rifleworks Titanium Clamp-on Gas Block, Huxwrx Flow 6K Suppressor and QD-6 Muzzle, Slate Black Rail Panels. Holosun 509T RDS and Magpul Pro BUIS. Buy once, Cry Once. I didn't add it all up, but I'm guessing $6K retail at least. I got a lot of discounts so that counts for something. Or at least I keep telling myself that. She is heavy, but I can put her on a diet if I decide to lighten the load and save a couple of lbs. The stock, ARCA Rail and Accu-Tac alone could save me a few lbs I think. I now own 2 Gucci rifles I guess, so I'm done shopping for a while. I couldn't understand when I first got into this game why everyone had so many AR's. Now I know. 😅
In regards to wearing out the guns faster Geissele did a lot of work to make a stronger bolt and extractor, multi port gas system for softer bolt cycling and a reinforced upper with new enhanced barrel extension to make it as strong and long lasting as a comparable m4 platform
I do hope you liked the serial number on that lower. Hand picked it myself when I was tasked with building the lower. The trigger is a GFR-E and that specific trigger is the nicest trigger I ever installed in a lower and I've installed thousands.
It looks like you put a lot of time and craftsmanship into hand fitting that rifle- Thanks for your hard work! Could you tell me more about the GFR-E. I know it has nano coating like the new X variants of the SSA and the SSA-E. Is it a new trigger, or a specialty trigger. I enjoy details, so feel free to go nuts.
Would be interesting to see a comparison between something like 6 ARC, 6.5G, and 6.8 SPC. Maybe include a segment on 16 vs ~11.5 in a similar format as this video.
Beautifully made video gentlemen. 6MM ARC seems to be the perfect bridge between the 5.56 and a 300 or 338 Norma shot from something like a Barrett MRAD. There's never a do-it-all, but it looks like the 6MM ARC does a lot.
Lots to unpackaged here. The changes from 556 NATO to 6 ARC is the bolt, the barrel, and the mag. The upper is the same. That bun may have a different upper, but it's not necessary. Because the case size changes from 556 to 6 ARC, the bold head face loses metal material typically there to make it strong enough for the 62k psi of 556. 556 case head diameter is 0.377". 6.8 SPC case head is 0.420". 6 ARC is made off of the latest 6.5 Grendel design (called Grendel Type II) and is 0.440" diameter. The difference between the original Grande and Grendel Type II is the depth of the bolt face. It was 0.125" originally, Type II is 0.136". This was done to help re-enforce the bolt's lugs from sheering off or mushrooming out. It's still an issue and I've seen both 6 ARC and 6.5 Grendel II destroy their bolts. As long as you are running Hornady ammo or reloading with understanding of what you are reloading for, you should be fine. The best operating system set up I have found for 6 ARC is with a Rifle +1" gas length. This can affect your hand guard selection. So what does this all mean? The best combination for the AR 15 platform would be a 6.8 SPC cartridge with a 90-108 gr 6mm bullet. Well, this just happens to already been made. It's called 6mm HAGAR and White Oak Armament used to make barrels for it. Hornady made a short run of brass for it, but it would be easy to wildcat the round. Sadly, WOA doesn't make the barrels anymore. SOLGW is making a new 6mm round called 6mm MAX and is made off the .350 Legend case. It's essentially a 6x45 but off a different case. Both HAGAR and MAX offer better bolt reliability over ARC and achieve equitable ballistics. I personally would like to see 6 HAGAR come back. Lastly, the belief that bullets lose stability when going trans-sonic has basically been debunked. They just became so effected by wind and gravity it looks like they have become unstable. If you want to see this is true, go watch MarkandSam after Work on UA-cam.
Yup, the Grendel handles a wider range of bullet weights and hits harder. I won't deny the ARC makes a good paper puncher but if you want something for taking game then use a bigger caliber like the Grendel.
This is exactly why I came to the comments. I want to know how they compare. Ballistically, size, weight, velocity, etc they’re very similar. Grendal on the other hand is cheaper and more readily available.
6-ARC is great in bolt guns too. I bought an 18” Savage 110 in 6 ARC as a hobby gun. Considering all the component shortages, it’s great! Especially since it’s a 1200 yard capable rifle that takes small rifle primers. Using Varget it wasn’t hard to get a load shooting 3/8”. I’m a fan.
Hornady has some podcasts on the ARC, Creedmoor, and PRC families of cartridges that go into way more of the technical details. Worth a watch/listen if the academic side of this interests you. Also, maybe G-Thumb could be a guest someday? Just throwing it out there...

Happy to see this. I think 6arc is maybe the best thing ever for the AR platform. I use a 12.5” suppressed with a 6-7” suppressor and hit torso size targets out to 1000 yards. Thats simply put- insane. Small short super light large ammo capacity retained more lethality then 5.56 and the ability to reach out insanely far. Handloading it is a blast too.

Not really, the 280 had a less potent powder charge than modern cartridges that seem superficially similar. It had inferior ballistics to 308, without providing much in terms of capacity. Using modern powders it might be good, but not when it was invented.
@timbirch4999 that has more to do with the muzzle breaks on m14 than anything. The Italian bm59 was fairly controllable, and the 240B, and other modern light machineguns use 7.62 without any issues.

Good info.
I wonder if an Adjustable Gas Block would tame the recoil a bit.
Or you can just leave the gas block exposed.
Having the gas block forward of the handguard is sexy. IE MK12

@OlTrailDog the GFR upper isn't the same as a milspec AR upper. A GFR barrel will not fit in a milspec AR upper.

TL;DR:
PSI too hot for semi. Bolt go boom.
small weight bullet good.
Cheers from an autist.
I bow to your 'tism. Thank you.
Leverevoloution

Today- Garand Thumb releases this video... FUCK I FORGOT ABOUT 6MM ARC... IDK WHAT TO DO
Whichever is cheaper. They both are similar enough in my opinion.
Lmao I started a 300blk build the week before GT vid dropped shitting on it
@@williamcoop8945 300blk def. has a purpose
@@marlowek1936 You're not wrong... I never looked at the price of 6mm arc
IF you want to hunt medium sized game, get the grendel. If you want flat shooting range gun, get the 6m arc.
You should compare the 6.5 Grendel 18” barrel vs the 6 ARC
Would love to see this comparison
Yup, the Grendel handles a wider range of bullet weights and hits harder. I won't deny the ARC makes a good paper puncher but if you want something for taking game then use a bigger caliber like the Grendel.
AR-10 in 308. 30 cal still RULES...In both effectiveness and cost.
Stop feeding the Hornady coffers with their latest "Round of the Week"
@@robertkeller9828I gave you thumbs up. With Starline Brass and 107 MatchKings, the cost difference is minimal. I have both. I prefer the ARC
I’m a fan.
I'll stick with the 6.5G for now. DOD claims the 6mm arc handle barriers better but I haven't seen anything to back this up yet. Can you test this?
Look at the new Hotness! It's 0.02% different than yesterdays hotness!
Awesome job showing the 6mm ARC
Hornady has some podcasts on the ARC, Creedmoor, and PRC families of cartridges that go into way more of the technical details. Worth a watch/listen if the academic side of this interests you.
Also, maybe G-Thumb could be a guest someday? Just throwing it out there...
THANK YOU! didn't know hornady made content like that on UA-cam!
Cool round. It will be interesting to see it develop & integrate over the next few years.
I love the gun content, absolutely love it. I hope to see more gear review and concepts like you did 4/5 yrs ago
Thanks for the educational videos that you guys work so hard on.
You go to olive garden and order unlimited salad and breadsticks. The first serving comes out. You eat it. The second serving comes. You eat that as well. The third serving comes. You're starting to get full, but you eat it cause heck you want to get your money's worth right? Then the fourth serving comes. You start to eat it but stop about a third of the way through cause you're full and you can't eat any more. As the waitress comes to give you a 5th serving, you tell her you won't eat it and that you're ready to pay. She replies "okay" with a smile and goes to get your check, but leaves the 5th serving on your table.
About 10 minutes go buy and the waitress comes out with a 6th serving. You grow a little irritated and tell her that you didn't want any more food, you wanted the check. Again she smiles and says "I'll bring that right out." As she's walking away another waitress comes out with a 7th serving of food. You're stunned at what's happening as you now have nearly 3 full portions of uneaten food. The waitress comes back with an 8th serving and tells you the computers are down, and it might take longer than expected to process the credit card payment. She places the food on top of the food already on the table. The other patrons at the restaurant are now starting to glance at your table with confusion.
Then a 9th serving comes out.
At this point you can't even see the table underneath the food but that doesn't stop the waitress from bringing a 10th serving. You're irate now and demand her bring you your credit card back so you can leave. She says the payment is still processing but she'll go check on it.
She comes back with a 10th serving and tells you the payment is still processing, but if you're going to have to wait if she could bring you some water. You oblige, bewildered at the pile of uneaten salad and breadsticks strewn before you, as the warm scent of garlic fills your nostrils. She comes back with an 11th serving and a glass of water. You drink the water. A 12th serving comes out. At this point the food is piled so high you can't even see across the table anymore. 13th serving. Food starts to fall on the floor. 14th serving. People start to leave the restaurant, confused and a bit frightened at the spectacle.
15.
You start to get up and leave, but the waitress tells you it won't be much longer. "I don't care!" You say, your voice cracking from fear, "just let me get out of here!"
"I'm afraid I cannot do that sir. You must finish the unlimited salad and breadsticks you ordered."
At this point, 30 servings lay on and around your table. A conveyor of waiters are stacking up servings one by one at the tables surrounding you. Kitchen production has reached 1 serving every four seconds. After 100 servings have been brought out you try to make a break for the door, but you slip on a greasy breadstick and fall face first onto the floor.
"Oh can I help you sir?" A worried voice asks. You look up. It's the waitress. "Please, just let me go. I'll do anything, please!"
She smiles and replies "Oh sir, you chose your fate already, and it only cost you $6.99."
You begin to cry. You crawl to the door. It's locked.
250 servings.
You begin to wet yourself. You pray, hoping for a miracle.
428 servings.
Breadsticks are now shooting out of the kitchen like bullets from a submachine gun. All the waiters and waitresses have gotten on their knees and formed a circle, citing the Olive Garden code of conduct as smoke billows from the floor within. Salad dressing starts to fall from the ceiling. You begin to suffocate from the lettuce blocking your nasal passages
2564 servings.
You accept your fate. Power comes in and out, a lightning storm forms outside. There are so many breadsticks in the restaurant that you are unable to see any light. The door breaks open and food begins to pour out at the speed of sound. The road in front of the restaurant gets covered in slippery lettuce and salad dressing, causing a multi car pile up.
6591 servings.
The earth begins to tremble. There is a power blackout.
15477 servings.
Nothing can stop the cataclysm.
61899 servings.
422455 servings
10174592 servings.
The earth begins to split. Volcanic magma makes its way to the surface. The olive garden emoloyees have summoned Cthulhu. He sets fire to the continent. Salad and breadsticks completely cover the earth. Oxygen supply is cut off. Sunlight is nonexistent. You're already dead. The unlimited salad and breadsticks continue to multiply, increasing the mass of the earth to unsustainable levels. Earth collapses into itself, causing a supernova the likes of which have never happened before.
Silence.
These types of comments are what I keep coming back to the comments for lmfao
It was an excellent story.
soooo deeeeep! I feel I am fully enlightened now
😮😮😮😮😮😅😅😅
Best comment I've seen on a GT video. Maybe all of youtube. 🎉🎉🎉
Love Charlie. Main character.
Oh, hi Mike.
now I gotta listen to lilium again
Micah’s reaction to the charging handle comment had me rolling. Lol!
Grew up with an Uncle that has tested and loaded everything and has sworn by 6mm since I was a kid. There is a reason it is very popular in competition. between 6mm PRC and 6mm arc its great to see these options without having to go into the wild cat rounds. need to buy one. 6mm Maxx looks promising as well.
6.5 Grendal King of the Hill 💯❤💙
I'll tell you hwhat. I sell grendel and grendel accessories.
So it's actually just the original 280 round from the FAL. If the DoD hadn't undermined the program we wouldn't have to reinvent the wheel.
280 from the EM-2, but no it’s a different round the 280 British was a 7x43mm round 130/140 grain.
It’s more like a 6 ppc improved just a different label.
Not really, the 280 had a less potent powder charge than modern cartridges that seem superficially similar. It had inferior ballistics to 308, without providing much in terms of capacity. Using modern powders it might be good, but not when it was invented.
@@Laz7481 Except you could fire 280 on full auto without rattling all your fillings out.
@timbirch4999 that has more to do with the muzzle breaks on m14 than anything. The Italian bm59 was fairly controllable, and the 240B, and other modern light machineguns use 7.62 without any issues.
I forgot all about this round. Glad I waited , there is a lot of support for it now. Ordered parts to build an upper.
6 ARC has been super popular here for coyote hunting for about 5 years now.
That's interesting, considering that it's a 4-year year old cartridge.
@@Borderline5440 people were wildcatting it before it got approved its just 6.5 grendel necked to 6mm which has been a thing for 20 years which was based on .220 russian so that is from the 60s, they already made 6m ppc in the 70s from that but this is just a 6.5 grendel case adjusted.
@@WayStedYou What this guy said. 6mm ARC isn't actually "new"...more like "newly marketed".
Garand Thumb wheres Charlie and Micah announcing the sponsors! loved the video though
I built one last year and shoots very well, definitely comparable to my 6.5 creedmoor bolt gun I had GAP build me. Build specs are proof 18” barrel, surfire 6.5 MB, SA adjustable gas block, LMT mono rifle length upper, larue lower, GA dmr trigger group. Bcm bolt carrier with JP enterprise bolt and silent capture buffer.
It's kind of funny. MAC has been touting 6mm ARC for a while, and people were telling him he was delusional.
And 6.8, he thinks 6.8 spc should be the service round.
Tbf he tours 6.8SPC which is definitely delusional
@theoldefirme4500 Agreed. 6.8 SPC is a hard pass, especially as the service round.
@@SPIRIT-117 agreed
I really would love a video of the 6 ARC vs. the 6.5 grendel if you get a chance. Then it's an apple to apple comparison.
23:25 The upper receiver is in fact the same as any mil spec upper receiver, You change the Barrel AND the Bolt and the Magazine is all that's required to convert to 6 ARC. You may have to tune the buffer system and the gas system to get it running just the way you like it
6.5 Grendel for life
All the 6 arc is is a 6 mm Grendel. Hornady barely changed it. At least guys don't have to fire form brass anymore.
I still think 6.5 Grendel is vastly underrated
Your videos got better all of a sudden. Kudos
Screw the SIG Spear. If the Army wants an updated service rifle, keep the AR and update it to 6mm ARC.
@2:40 bro high af talking about ballistic coefficients 😂😂 love my county
I've had mine since it came out and have zero regrets! it suppress's great and anchors the deer in my area 🤷🏽♂🤷🏽♂
I'm still exstatic over 8.6 Blackout and watching reruns of it!
Look into the 375 Raptor it’s based on the same case but it’s a bigger bore. 8.6 blk subsonic is 300gr bullet. 375 Raptor supsonic is 270gr bullet and subsonic is a 400gr bullet. More power from the exact same parent case.
Yet both are dummy expensive so fuck that. @@patrickpendergast898
