Just received my ATEM Mini Pro ISO. This video pertains to what I want to do. I am satisfied with HD and not worried about 4K yet. Thanks for your video. I found it helpful.
Great Video, thanks for sharing. You do a great job covering post production from a live edit finishing in DR. I had watched a while back, and wanted to wait until I had a bit more experience using my ATEM Mini Extreme ISO before commenting. I really wish that BM would make use of their Multicam option in their DRP file. It would be great if rather than having to overlay an alternate video cut, you could just right click “Switch Multicam Clip Angle” I also wish that BM would include the “SuperSource” as an ISO file for Extreme ISO model, so that it is easily accessible for post production. I worked around this by setting one of the two output options to SuperSource, and then looping back the HDMI cable to one of my unused inputs. I use that camera angle instead of the S/SRC button while live editing. I realize that it is a bit of a hack, but it is a functional work around if you have an input available. Hopefully , Blackmagic will come up with a more elegant solution in the future. Thanks again. I look forward to more content.
9:47 so if your doing a podcast and your interviewing a guest do you ever play the switcher live on set and edited later? Is that a thing or it’s best to use a 3rd party person off camera??
@@matthewsayovitz9196 , not yet...but here is a development: I have been slowly replacing all of my GH5s with BGH1 because of the computer control feature. I have not tried it yet but I am guessing I can set the ATEM to the same timecode as the cameras from the computer (I am currently using the extreme pro iso but the ability to set time code goes back a few years. v8.3 I believe). Anyway, It is more of a summer project at this point but letting you know where I am going. There are a few external devices that allow you to set multiple cams to the same timecode / start them at the same time but not sure the external cel phone app has that capacity - never had too much luck with it...Hope thing helps!
@@steinviolino yeah, it does - thanks! Will think about migrating to BM cams completely. Also need to research possible ATEM TC sync options to GH5. For today, I went and re-encoded my GH5 footage to start with the ISO project file TC starting value. Had to start with a new blank project and waveform sync / compare / cut the GH5 footage to the exact start of the ISO 1080p file (GH5 recording had started earlier than ATEM). I am shooting a 3 camera live shoot with 1 Sony, 2 Panasonic’s and 1 GoPro using the ATEM Mini ISO. As you know it creates a Resolve project and it is well documented on how to replace your 1080 footage with the 4K camera masters IF they are BMPC cameras, but for the life of me I can not figure out if there is an easy way to do it with Non-BM cameras. The problem I believe lies in the absence of matching timecode, but I was hoping that someone might know how to fool resolve into using clips from my camera by employing a Timecode offset or something. Anyway I sure would like to hear anyone thoughts.
@@NickYack Same here, been searching for a long while. It looks like to me that the main issue is that the timeline in the project file that the Atem mini creates utilizes the Sync Bin feature in the cut page, and not a Multicam Timeline which would allow you to substitute the individual clips on the timeline with the 4k in-camera footage. Does this match up with you found as well?

How do I go about manually adding a raw piece of footage that was captured internally on a non-black magic camera to the switched ATEM timeline as a synced clip? When I attempt to add the file to the ISO folder and attempt to sync via audio in the sync window, the clip fails to sync despite have 45 minutes of identical audio to the ATEM ISO switched timeline. I thought it would be possible to manually position the clip in the sync window and save the sync, but it appears isolated from the other clips and won't allow me to drag it into place. I'd like for the raw footage to be used as additional camera angles in addition to the ISO files. I hope all that makes sense. Thanks again for putting this demo together!
Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. You are attempting a workflow that is only designed for BRAW clips shot with Blackmagic Pocket Cinema cameras with matching timecode. You can still do this by just foregoing what you see in this video, and just import all your clips into the media pool and then sync them all manually. You should be able to sync via audio as long as every source clip has the same audio.
@@rippleguys Thanks for clarifying further. Hopefully they expand on this functionality in the future but for now I'm content knowing this imperfect solution exists.
Thanks. Great video. Very useful. But what about Audio? Can the iso audio files generated be pulled in through the sync bin? Or is the sync bin only for video?
What if you don't have a Black Magic Camera where you can record the higher quality video but instead you'd like to use the ISO footage? When you click on the drp file, it opens up Resolve and your project/timeline is loaded with the mixed version of the footage, which is compressed and poor'er quality. How do I get Resolve to replace those with the higher ISO quality files instead so that when I export, it uses the better quality footage rather than using the mixed footage?
@@rippleguys if I swap the files manually in the timeline with the ISO files, will my rough cuts from the ATEM still be intact? Does anyone know if there is a way to use a button on the ATEM for creating a marker? I'm trying to use like a macro button on an ATEM Mini Extreme ISO, so that when pressed, it will create a marker in the project file and I can see it when I open it in Da Vinci Resolve. Any help is appreciated!
Yes and no. Since the time code will not match, you will need to sync the clips manually via sync panel and waveform - but once you do, the clip will appear in the sync bin along with the other angles - so a few xtra steps
@@rippleguys is there a process to automatically sync non-black magic 4k full-res media with the 1080p switcher cuts once you've manually synced the footage in a sync bin? (Similar to the BMraw auto replace)
@@rippleguys thank you so much for the quick responses! I'm trying to conceive of a method to move the switched DRP from HD to internal 4K without being able to test. What if I relinked the HD files to 4K files inside of the media pool? Since they have the same timing perhaps that would work to seamlessly replace.
How do I adjust video clips in the sync bin? For example, my cameras were off sync with audio and I want to keep the cuts I made, but I want to nudge two camera angles 4 frames to the left, how would I do that? Thanks.
We have an entire online course on how to use it here: www.rippletraining.com/products/video-production-training-tutorials/atem-mini-essential-training/
Thanks for the video on how to work with the Sync bin! I'm a little confused why they didn't make it a Multicam clip when recording on the ATEM, because I feel that would've been a lot easier to re-edit afterwards. Your instructions on how easy it is to replace a clip seem far too needlessly complicated instead of the usual method of replacing in a Multicam clip: Right click the edit and choose the new angle. Instead we have: 1) Press the up arrow to go to the start of the clip 2) Press "I" to set this as an in point 3) Press the down arrow to go to the end of the clip 4) Press "O" to set this as an out point 5) Click on the camera in what looks like a Multicam switcher (But doesn't actually switch the active camera) to make that camera active 6) Select "Video-only edit" 7) Click "Place on top" 8) Do this every time you want to change the angle At least it's easy to shift an existing cut if you don't want to change the angle, that's at least nice. It's definitely not your fault that the process is unintuitive, but it's definitely not "easy".
Not gonna lie, I find the whole cut screen and way of editing this to be a massive pain. For me, placing in and out points doesn't always seem to work either, sometimes it will end the new shot before the outpoint anyway. Any suggestions on why it's doing that? And if you're doing a fair amount of rebuilding, it's very tedious as well. I don't get why this was necessary at all and why they didn't just make this part of the multicamera editing stuff already in Resolve where a new shot can be made by literally using the number keys on your keyboard.
@Ripple Training - Im having a strange issue that I cannot seem to find support on via forums. I did a 3 camera shoot on pocket 6k's all with a successful HDMI connection to the ATEM EXTREME MINI PRO ISO (roll/stop/controll) . In post, I've had issues getting Braw to link to all three angles. It always seems to be 2/3 of the angles and the other one just not showing up in the sync bin even though it is in the BRAW folder at the root of the project with correct naming, meta data, etc. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it either, as I have deleted the one that WAS working from the BRAW folder and then hit the raw replace button to then see 2 cameras showing in the sync bin with the angle that WASNT previously working showing just fine. Anyone have any tips or tricks to fix such things? I have huge batch of these things and doing a manual reconnect and cut in and out over the proxy would be a huge bummer in the color process. Cheers!
What if your cameras were 4k but not BM and you recorded the 4k footage in camera. Can you swap the HD footage to 4k in the same way - how does it sync correctly? Thanks.
The reason the BMD footage syncs is because timecode is being sent to the pocket cinema cameras that are recording braw on SD cards. So, no, I don't believe it will work like we showed, but you could sync your non-BMD cameras to the ISO angles, it would just take a bit more work. But I'm sure it could be done.
@@rippleguys Slight correction - if you use a BM Bi-Directional SDI to HDMI converter between the Ursa Mini Pro and the ATEM Switcher, timecode is sent back to the Ursa for internal recording I believe.
@@rippleguys For clarification, I am using the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO. I did some tests yesterday and all the camera ISO files, along with the program recording, are fine, but there is a purple colored scene segment in DRP that has a color set to black. None of the SS show up.
@@rippleguys FYI - I just concluded a conversation with Blackmagic Design support, which they confirmed internally that SuperSource is UNSUPPORTED in DaVinci Resolve at this time. I am currently using v17.
@@rippleguys Is there a way (although it may take longer) to bring in the 4K raw footage off a Sony and line it un in Davinci ? (btw, I purchased your ATEM course and hope to start that this week!).
@@JeanMarcLavoie Yes, you can sync them very fast in the Cut Page. The issue is, the Sony camera does not shoot RAW only LOG to it's internal cards - you need an Atomos recorder to record the raw signal over HDMI, into Apple ProRes RAW - however, Resolve does NOT support ProRes RAW - it basically sucks that Apple and Blackmagic wont "resolve " this issue
I am trying this out but my sync bin is empty. Did you have to add the clips to a folder of its own and sync these clips in order to get them to show up in the sync bin?
The sync bin is not a bin even though its called that. Once you add one of the angles to the timeline, and park the playhead over it, the sync bin will automatically "see" the other angles containing identical timecode. So, in short, you wont see a thing in the sync "bin" until after you edit in one of the angles.
@@rippleguys So I just opened my Davinci resolve file created by my ATEM ISO. My cut page looks identical to what's shown on the video. (One video file and one Audio File which is the program out with all the cuts) In this video, Travis then goes up and clicks on the sync bin and all the individual clips appear. He did not drag one of the angles to the timeline first as you say to do. When I go to the sync bin its empty....
@@BellinghomeSchoolofMusic Ok, so the angle is already in the timeline. Park the playhead over it somewhere in the middle then click the Sync Bin tab. You should see all your angles.
Ripple Training I already have been placing the play head over V1 and scrubbing all round, with no luck seeing clips in the sync bin......which is why I ended up asking questions here. I Appreciate your prompt responses to me thus far although my issue remains unresolved.
@@BellinghomeSchoolofMusic The only other trailhead I can give you is that somehow you did not designate a folder or enable the checkbox that says "ISO Record All Inputs" When the ATEM generates the DRP file, it' is automatically looking for the folder you designated with the ISO mp4s in that folder. If it does not see those angles, your Sync Bin will not show the angles. ua-cam.com/video/nrmPwY5NO3I/v-deo.html
My Goshhhhhhhh... Man...... I have the Atem Mini Extreme ISO, and just shot a wedding this past Sunday (July 18 - 4 cameras, 2 audio inputs), and recorded everything with ISO Recording. I thought that it would be simple to open the .DRP project in DaVinci Resolve, see my Multicam window with all 6 inputs, and just start editing. By watching your video, I learned that it is not that easy nor straightforward... You have to put your new camera cut above the existing cut, superimpose them in a selected area beforehand... Maannnnn... And you have to create a Multicam clip yourself. It doesn't come ready... No correct transition either... Since I'm a Final Cut Pro X user, It seems it's far easier just to stick with my current workflow - FCPX + PluralEyes, and skip the .DRP project for now. Will just use it to export the XML to FCPX. Thanks anyways for showing what is needed.
I agree. I've been using an Atomos Shogun 7 to record multicam and am used to the multicam clips that are automatically generated when I import the timeline. Now, to be clear, there are complications to the workflow with the Atomos files as well, but I'm having trouble understanding how this ATEM process is better.
ISO is NOT ISO! Please help us as a community. The ISO recordings are only Video ISOs!! The audio is totally corrupted, as all ISO recordings have Program mixed audio tracks. What you have to do is go into the Audio ISO folder to find the, let's say CAM 3 audio. The problem is is that there is no easy way to re-sync the ISO audio with the ISO video clip because as the audio track on the ISO video recording does not have the same waveform to referent to, because it is corrupted as a program audio mix. What's up with that? and can you tell us all how to fix this terrible oversight by Black Magic?

@@ShutterlabCreative no
@@rippleguys thank you so much for the quick responses!
Thanks.
select clip once it's been added to timeline then use comma and period keys to nudge left or right.
I am very new to this and I am not tech savvy at all. I really need help with my atem mini pro iso and editing in davinci.
We have an entire online course on how to use it here: www.rippletraining.com/products/video-production-training-tutorials/atem-mini-essential-training/
Came from a tricaster and premiere background and recently switched
Thanks for the video on how to work with the Sync bin! I'm a little confused why they didn't make it a Multicam clip when recording on the ATEM, because I feel that would've been a lot easier to re-edit afterwards.
Your instructions on how easy it is to replace a clip seem far too needlessly complicated instead of the usual method of replacing in a Multicam clip: Right click the edit and choose the new angle.
Instead we have:
1) Press the up arrow to go to the start of the clip
2) Press "I" to set this as an in point
3) Press the down arrow to go to the end of the clip
4) Press "O" to set this as an out point
5) Click on the camera in what looks like a Multicam switcher (But doesn't actually switch the active camera) to make that camera active
6) Select "Video-only edit"
7) Click "Place on top"
8) Do this every time you want to change the angle
At least it's easy to shift an existing cut if you don't want to change the angle, that's at least nice. It's definitely not your fault that the process is unintuitive, but it's definitely not "easy".
Agreed 100%
@@rippleguys and whith UrsaMini?? sync correctly?
@@EzekielMontes You would need to sync the URSA mini footage manually. Only the pocket cinema cameras are sent timecode from the ATEM.
@@rippleguys Slight correction - if you use a BM Bi-Directional SDI to HDMI converter between the Ursa Mini Pro and the ATEM Switcher, timecode is sent back to the Ursa for internal recording I believe.
If i didn't record BRAW footage, instead record only prores 422 from blackmagic 4K, could it still relink with ATEM footage?
No. the PR files need to be imported an synced manually -
How do I get the camera graphics off of the recording? I have the time data on the top, bottoms, and sides of the footage.
That is not an ATEM issue. Turn those off on your camera.
How do you import the mic 1 and 2 audio tracks in the Davinci Resolve project?
if you recorded inputs on Mic1 and Mic2 doing your live show, those two inputs will already be a part of the Resolve .drp project
The SuperSouce (SS) scenes in the DaVinci Resolve 17 project file are blank. How do you view the SS as streamed in the program out file?
The ATEM and ATEM Mini Pro ISO do not support SuperSource.
@@rippleguys For clarification, I am using the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO. I did some tests yesterday and all the camera ISO files, along with the program recording, are fine, but there is a purple colored scene segment in DRP that has a color set to black. None of the SS show up.
@@dkloorozco9559 We do not have an ATEM Mini Extreme so we cannot confirm what you are seeing.
@@rippleguys I can provide the files if you want to explore it. This would make an important training video.
@@rippleguys FYI - I just concluded a conversation with Blackmagic Design support, which they confirmed internally that SuperSource is UNSUPPORTED in DaVinci Resolve at this time. I am currently using v17.
Can this be done with raw files from other cameras (Sony a7c and a7III in my case)?
No. Only Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras.
@@rippleguys That's too bad. Do any of the BM cameras have autofocus?
@@JeanMarcLavoie It does have auto focus with compatible lenses, but not Continuous Autofocus like the Sony cameras.
THANKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Yeah, I thought that's what the Atem Mini Pro ISO did, too! But dang it, it's not multicam ready. Ugh!
@@chmedlychmedenstein916
I might have to look at the Shogun 7 then, if it's multicam ready. What's the complication you're mentioning?
The audio/video files should all be the same length so you should be able to line them up on a timeline and be good to go.
