      I really loved the video! It's not often you get such good quality on points of contact and the replays are not at a speed which is confusing on the context of the fight or too fast to see what happened.

    Great video! The footwork was quite interesting, you seemed to really find your sweet spot towards the end of the tournament. In the beginning you would give up some points because of an overstep that didn't score, but as you got warmed up there was way more control and balance going into your step ins. Great to see, keep it up!

      This is surprising.
      As an outsider/newcomer, I assumed it was a result of people playing the sport and not the martial art. When instructors use paintball or airsoft as a training tool for gunfighting they're hyper vigilant about calling out actions you would not realistically take with the threat of death present.
      Not to mention, for all the masters that wrote treatises, they had to have won dozens and dozens of duels potentially without being injured in a way that would keep them from being able to fight. All the hand blows would certainly risk ending a career as a duelist.

      Be the change you want to be. Find some other interested people, and START that HEMA club. Find a spot in a park where you can make a makeshift fencing strip, have standardized gear+facemasks, and play! It's not the easiest thing ever, but social media can help you, and you can always just have everyone bring their own specified gear.

    Hello, When you fight 5:57 I think the trouble you are having here is that your opponent is left handed even if reach is a factor as well.
    I see that most doubles happens as you attack from your left to right if you understand what I mean while Beau as a left handed fencer attacks from right to left.
    A good example where you can see this is 6:21 when you do the thrust as you raise your arms to defend from a strike from left but because Beau is left handed the strikes comes from your right leaving your head open for a strike.
    since you are in the same club I would recommend you to spar/train with Beau more to get used to left handed fencers
    hopefully this unrequested pointer is of help, and congratulations to the first place :D

    • @SellswordArts
      @SellswordArts  Рік тому +2

      Yeah, I registered afterwards that he was left-handed. I'm dyslexic, and sometimes that stuff confuses me.
      I'm fairly used to fencing lefties when it comes to one handed swords, but two headed swords not so much.

    So, I fence Rapier in the SCA, and I am not a Longsword fencer.
    I can’t help but notice that in a majority of the matches, I didn’t see a lot of constraint of the opponents weapon. In Rapier combat, regardless of off hand, positioning you sword counter to your opponent’s sword when you enter measure, cuts off their most direct line of attack. Now Longsword is 2 handed and a bit of a different game, but I feel like the same principle of defense applies.
    Can you walk me through what the process for Longsword is?
    Again, it’s not my focus, but if I can get the methodology of what is core to your thought process, maybe we can help each other with an exchange of ideas.
