How is it possible that I stay glued to the TV screen watching "a guy" detail an old truck? I cannot answer that question, but i enjoy every minute of it. Keep the videos coming
I think its the same reaction to watching another guy grill or smoke meat.
@@Joe-nr9xf Or watching Andrew Camarata
It’s the satisfaction of seeing quality work being done with the luxury package of, you not having to be the fellar to do all that damn work.
There's just somethin about it.
He holds your interest by his humor as well as his skill while doing even mundane task
This guy is the absolute best thing in DIY automotive UA-cam
Thank you Jordan - very kind of you!
Seconded
Agreement has been made.
Agreed!
@@ViceGripGarage I "third" that.
I just found this on UA-cam and I'm hooked my son bought a rv and used a gas can and a external fuel pump and got home 3 miles it had been sitting 8 years and because I started watching it here and thanks to you because he would not have known if I had not seen it for myself I love watching
3 years later and a guy is still in love with this truck.
A guy couldn’t blame a guy if a guy keeps the truck
This.
David Cockrell A guy’s gonna have to agree with a fella
Derek, a guy did a great job on the ol Chevy. I have a 2004 Chevy Silveraydo that I bought in 2007. I can’t bring myself to sell it cause it’s been a great truck.Spray away makes good stuff.
Couldn't blame a guy if it stayed in the fleet....
Sure couldn't
If I was a guy who owned this truck I would have a hard time putting a for sale sign in the window of it. She's a keeper.
Bought my dad a '79 version of a sorta kinda similar truck in '85. Plainer version with a 6 cylinder and three on the tree but very similar interior. He loved that thing, had always wanted a truck.
Unfortunately, when he passed in '91 I did not stop my mother from selling his truck. Lots of emotions and all that. I am so glad he had the truck for 6 years. Wish I had it now. A feller misses his dad.
I wouldn't have been able to let that truck go, she is a beauty!!!!!!
Derek, to see a forty year old Pickem up truck look brand new without a frame off restoration and rebuild is simply stunning. Well done young man!
I think the floor carpet color you’re looking for is “I’m Ron Burgundy?”
🤣🤣... perfect
@@ViceGripGarage how much YA asking for it
Thats it ive been thinking hes the chevy Chase with a dash of ron Burgundy and a touch of tim Allen vgg is my favorite show on innerwebs
I wouldn’t have been able to do everything you did to that truck, because the more time I spent with it, the more I would want to keep it. What a find. This is two years ago, I hope whoever bought it has been enjoying it.
I hope that you kept this gem. If not, you will have the rest of your life to regret selling it!
I was thinking the same thing. That’s a nice truck .
That looks good
"You don't wanna get stuck in the tub like Arnie Grape" Derek's off the wall comments are really gooder. Keep the videos coming, really enjoy watching you and learning a thing or two.
I know this video has been up for a while but I’m making my way pretty much through your entire “catalog”. I just wanna say thank you ....you may have no idea the joy you bring to a lot of folks who appreciate your sense of humor, your repair skills - including, let’s call it improv, and the memories of working on old cars with Dad’s or other special people. Should you ever find yourself in Louisville, KY you have a friend who will buy you a good pour of bourbon (or your choice) as a hearty thank you!
This guy is my spirit animal - it's like being back in the garage with my dad 30 years ago LOL
watched the ashtray part like 64.3 times in a row and still in tears.
The David Hasselhoff quip was the funniest of all Derek one liners, and that's a long list. Most enjoyable channel on the tubes.
Just discovered this channel. I’m now binge watching on the clock, a guy couldn’t blame a guy for livin how he wants.
Nice to see a beautiful original truck that hadn't Been "fast n louded"
Congratulations it looks great!
Here in michigan, I know some guys that pour oil into the doors to keep the bottom of the doors from rusting.
Amen !!!
@@davidm4160 Indeed. No such thing as 'waste oil' it all goes into the spray bottle. Body moisturizer.
Ya man. Fast is cool and loud is....well, loud. But man that doeas grt old when thats what a guys always seein.
@@davidm4160 ya man. I just did the doors on my 83 dodge van couple weeks ago
This guy actually knows exactly what you mean about the tape, I have trouble wanting to take it off before everything is dry and then this guy is starting all over again. Thanks Derek and family have yourself a blessed week.
"The easiest mess to clean is the one you don't make!" I love it!
After I hooked my peepers on that truck it makes a guy want to get one for himself. Dangit that truck is looking gooood!
I didn't know about the one year grill before either. It's this guys model year too.
The secret of putting the hub caps on is “putting them on”. Loved it. Beautiful truck.
Nice job looks great wish it was mine
That c10 is ah mans dream. Lol awsome. These relics are going to be absoleet soon. Glad to see someone giving them a second go round. Theyll never make anything as durable again.
That's the type of truck that I would buy -- no pollution stuff, just what you need and not much more. I'd even put an 8- track in there !! That came out beautiful, man. Props and kudos to you, guy ! Wish that there was someone like you near me !!
Ditto on the 8 track, it just seems right
Even my toddler loves to see what a guy is up to. I think his first words with be "I'll be dipped". Great vidya Derek!!
or maybe when you're changing his diaper he'll say, "sssssss sssss, get out of there!" :)
Even funnier than the last😂 this is the only channel that makes me laugh out loud keep up the awesome work love this channel.
Thanks Jack!
I totally agree !!
I love this sense of humour and true professionalism.
Agreed
Easily for me the best car show on UA-cam. The truck looks amazing. Thanks. UK Fan.
I really appreciate the low key//relaxed approach you take when adversity seems to hunt you down or you hunt it down. Good example to your wife and kids and those watching on this here “i telephone”! Thanks., I happen to be going through a season in life when the laid back approach works a lot better than screaming and yelling. Thanks for your videos.
The Big Ten, was basically known as a heavy half ton. GMC built a similar version they called The Gentleman Jim. It was a heavy package with overload springs and a towing package that you could order with the Sierra Grande, which was the GMC equivalent of the Silverado.
Mike Mullay There was two different big tens there’s a 6050 GVRW and there’s a 6200
both big 10
I own the 6200
I've heard too that they have a heavier frame.
It also had a telescopic rear bumper, and 454 I had 2 of them
The GMC version was called Heavy Half. They had a sticker that read "Heavy Half" in place of the "Big Ten" sticker use on the Chevrolets. Both of those were RPO code F44. That option was available with any box configuration, IE, long or short bed and including the step sides. I currently own a '78 Chevy Custom Deluxe short step side that is has the F44 Big Ten option. The GMC "Gentleman Jim'' and the GMC "Beau James" were limited edition appearance package options only available in 1975. Those options could have possibly come standard with the RPO code F44, but I'm not definite on that.
The easiest mess to clean is the one you don't make. That's profound! I love it!
The guy is starting to sound like my wife, dammit. He keeps talking like that, we're gonna wind up with a cooking show here.
Man that came out AWESOME!! 😮😮 I really enjoyed watching that transformation. 👍🏻
Great job, It brings me back when I did Detailing cars in the 80s now on new cars I use Clay down the whole car and wipe it down with a Terrycloth and get the ceramic spay as seen on TV . What a shine.
THANK you for all your perfect and funny car rescue videos. You are also now in Germany a little legend. And I wish that I could buy from you this beautiful red truck as my favourite, cause such things in Germany very rarely to find. You are the best and please take care of you, that you can entertain us in minimum the next 20 years with your videos. Perfect man with perfect cars and also the perfect hearth for all these things. I'm checking out Chevies on mobile.de after watching Derek. A guy just might need to get a nice rig.
You're one of my favourite human beings
Only way to keep the gunk off your windshield is to spray only the towel to clean the dash. Then use a magic eraser on the windshield to get any overspray off.
Love your content feller!
I am 2 years too late but I really hope you kept the BIG10 Silverado....I love that truck! God bless you and yours!
This one went away for bigger and better projects. It is a beauty. I’m pretty sure I just saw this one on the road a few days ago. Can’t remember where exactly. I travel all over the Midwest but, I recognized it soon as I saw it.
"I'm too lazy to look!" Priceless
😅😅
probably the cleanest c10 to ever come out of michigan that wasnt restored or in a museum
I was thinking the same thing
Can’t help but get the peepers back on some older content 😊 it just keeps gettin betterer. Given me way more confidence doing the project my son and I are doing. I just dig in now and it’ll be fine…… nope 😂
I was raised a ford guy but that’s a sweet Chevy, I’d be extra proud to own it. Congrats!
When something is Giving ne trouble anymore..i go "Yah, Git Git outta here" or "C'mon Now" it ACTUALLY Work's 😎

@@GeminiWoods yep me too, he's kind of contagious. Coworkers look at me strangely but I do the right thing and just

So does leather dye in a spray bottle with no sticky residue or obvious paint smell😁
Derek is one silly fella!
Can't believe how much of a difference a little cleaning and buffing on an old tired looking truck makes!
Absolutely beautiful! Good job!
A guy has never thought you could find a 1980 chevy in that good of shape anymore.
Lol! They're everywhere still. Too many! Everyone and their brother has a square body Bowtie or GM pickup truck.
@@cruisinginmy94 Most of those are post-'80, though. The 5 years or so before '81 aren't quite as popular.
One of those big drywall knives works pretty good for keeping the window clean while you're doing the dash
Anybody else feel like a guy is just my hero. I just like all the work a guy does. And a guys vernacular is something else. A guy has got a whole new way of talking. Mad props Derek. Keep up the great work !!!!!!😁
theres just somethin about seeing a minty ol pickup that really makes a feller feel good. Its like the sensation of a candle burning in a clean house
That would go great on a T-Shirt. "The easiest mess to clean is the one you don't make"
Must be 1980, because that looks brand new. You did good.
She's a beauty! Makes me wish I never sold my 79 Big 10 that I had throughout my high school years.
this is the most wholesome channel of youtube....and boy that is EXACTLY why i watch this. always leave me dipped.
He doesn't have to curse or get vulgar to be entertaining, which is why I subscribed.
Classic looking pickup. Love the old trucks . Simple did the job reliable.
I started using the Sprayway products you showed and for sure they work gooder than stuff i used get and it costs less money too. I wish they would market their products everywhere becuz i like it a lot and my boo boo, she likes the smell and i do too. Tire shine works good on my boots
That's one fine looking big 10 Derrick love how you did it , I would keep it too ...
"I bought the cheapest I could find, even though everyone said the holes don't lineup...well the holes don't line up..."
Double sided tape word wonders when only a few pop ins work.
Love the videos
Was the old one asbestos? Smells like asbestos. Glad you didn’t taste it.
Wow, what a transformation, so well done. Great recommendations on the quick and easy fixes for "restoring" some items on the cheap, looks fantastic!!
Seeing those rocker panels and floors really make a guy a bit jealous 😅
I lost it at: "It's kinda like watchin' David Hasselhoff runnin' down the beach". Coffee spewed.
🤣🤣
Note to self, don't be drinking stuff when watching Derek !
You did a fine job cleaning her up. She's looking sharp.
She’s a great goin to town truck, looks great, can’t beat the old school look!!
You can keep from hitting the glass with the spray by spraying the cloth then wipe the dash instead of spraying the cloth. Also noticed looks like you were using a microfiber for that. It works better if you use a cloth that doesn’t absorb as much for that use such as a old t-shirt.
The really funny thing is he's not using time-lapse on the buffing. He really moves that fast.
So today I asked my coworker "could you hook your peepers on the patient in room 7". She didn't know what to do with that request.
I didn't realize how suggestive this sounds out of the ol' Factree context
To understand this one-liners you need to be at these UA-cam factree page...
@Tyson Pooch Just hope she doesn't hook up the sparkelator to the patient.
Lol well a guy gotta learn to share the good stuff!!
She probably thought you were hitting on her and because you said "peeper" she interpereted it as "penis" and now you are being investigated. You are probably already fired.
Man I sure do miss mine. She was the 2 tone big 10 flavor. Blue/gray. 350/th350 loved on with lots of performance parts. Shorter gears. She could scoot and pull pretty good for her age.
Somebody took really great care of that truck.
Thanks! This brings back memories of my ‘77 Silverado, blue with the light blue stripe. Big ol vinyl bench seat, perfect for “dating”!
Hot Dang - that's one slick lookin 40 year old truck
Beautiful!
That truck reminds me of my fathers daily driver from the early 80’s.
They sure don’t make em like that anymore, sadly.
That is a beautiful pickup!!!
I had (purchased new) a 72, 73, 76 and 77 Chevy pickups. I loved them all, then started buying Chevy vans and SUVs. The last GM product I bought was a 2009 GMC Acadia. I loved it for about a year, then everything bad started happening to it and I haven't owned another GM product since. GM would not honor the warranty, and I went all the way to the top trying to get help. I'm driving Ram trucks now and have been ever since the Acadia, and I love them.
Great job Derek!!!
That truck ended up gorgeous. I would love to know what she fetched at auction.
At some point hes going to regret selling this beautiful truck
I really appreciate your videos
$9,900.
Worth at least $10k, at least a guy would have paid that
It goes for blue book value ..unless someone wants to pay more than it's worth..
Keep er. A feller needs a really sweet pickup. He doesn't want to have regrettables later.
Despite the headaches, my 76 c-10 is too special to get rid of. I get this, totally.
"Where's my iplate?" I love this guy! #VGG!!!
Did the paint rejuvenation on my 88 Chevy, used a hobo freight buffing wheel on my plug in drill. Worked really good. Used some rubbing compound that I had from the 90's along with some turtle wax from the Walmart. Looks brand new from 33 feet away. Thanks for the inspiration. Great truck
This is the only channel i dont fast forward through
14:15 That's kinda typical up here in Canada, people will oil their latches and rub the bottoms of their doors and other rust happy spots to keep them "seasoned" as I like to call it. Not too sure how effective it is, but hey, whatever eh.
yup... used to "wax" my old truck with used motor oil.. especially the bed
Sitting here layed up with a foot problem, so watching some of your earlier work. Noticed the oil on the bottom of the doors on the inside. Thats actually why that truck is rust free. My uncle mixes up oil and diesel fuel and sprays the inside of the doors with it. That way they don't rust from the inside out. Diesel fuel just makes it, so you can spray it. Love the channel.
Dear Derek, this is one of my most favourite videos as it encapsulates all that you do; that I love. You are such a talent with profound humility who inspired me to get up off my bottom and start fixing up my Ute (sorry! PickUp). Ohb P.S-: I am presently translating your con-bob-ulnar lingo for all of us Australian viewers, just in case they miss out on something. Sincere thanks Derek and God bless you and yours. Pete
She's a dang beaut guy! Definitely know how to bring em right around!
Thank you
The best way to keep the spray off the windshield is to spray the rag, not the dash.
Old piece of cardboard taped up between glass and dash.
I almost passed out when he got it in the sunshine... Awesome Derek.....
I restored a 1981 Silverado. Same color interior. I painted my door panels. Your 1980 is really a very nice truck.
"The easiest mess to clean up is the one you don't make. Actually, that makes sense, so you can disregard that."
“Where’s my iplate” 😂😂
I fell in love with this truck. I love it almost as much as your vocabulary. I found your vids today. Binge watched for about 6 hours. This stuff interests me to no end.
My best friend bought a blue 1978 Chevy 1/2 ton stripped ... no radio, no AC .. put a cheap cap on the back and we drove cross country from NJ to S Cali and back ... loved the basic cars of the 70's ... I've used the Spay Away products for years, love the window cleaner (I have big dogs) ... the Big Ten turned out great ... and the (waxed) hub caps made the truck !
What a beautiful truck. I’m jealous of whoever ended up with it!!
I wish I had been at the auction Derek mentioned. I'd have bid on that truck.
@@toddknox685 It's beautiful but the problem with trucks that are in show room condition is you feel like you cant ever use them. I'd rather have an Old Chevy that's in weathered / non perfect condition because then I wouldn't feel guilty about putting it to work.
tbh
i would probably buy a VGG shirt that says
"I don't know."
Jordan Wiley one of those and one that says “ I’ll be dipped”
"I don't know." is often proceeded by: "What are you getting her for (anniversary, birthday, Christmas, etc)?"
I love this comment. At first I was put off by the amount of these comments then realized it is a real trade mark. It's smart.
He does have an " I'll be dipped" and "way too much, perfect" shirts.
or "I'll be dipped"
He's hooked on Sprayaway the same as I am. I think half the reason I like that stuff because it smells the same as the automatic car wash did when I was a kid.
Just wanted to say sprayway has been the glass cleaner of choice of glass professionals for over thirty years that I know of... Their crazy clean surface cleaner was popular with a few trucking companies too! Now the glass cleaner is available at Dollar general... Most Silverados got tilt/cruise and power windows as well as everything you mentioned. The good old days when you went to the dealer and line itemed the options you wanted, and omitted the ones you didn't. I still remember waiting on my dad's 79' custom deluxe he spec'd to come in to our local dealer!
"It's like watching David Hasselhoff run down the beach. You know you're not supposed to look but there's just somethin' about it" 🤣🤣🤣
When you walked around from the unbuffed side to the buffed side, I was like I just saw my team make a touchdown during the superbowl!
Haha 🤣
I tape old news paper to the glass when I cleaning dash boards with spray products works amazing Derek @ViceGripGarage
That truck is a rare find in this day and age. As an auto glass tech in the mid 80s to early 90s, I am reminded as to how many windshield and door and vent glass I put in these old trucks, not to mention, rear sliders. No way you'll find another in that kind of shape nowadays. Personally, I would have kept it, but I know a guy needs to turn a profit. Beautiful rig.
Just imagine pulling that truck up to someone's house with the trailer hooked up to it ,you definitely would know your old ride would be in good hands ,great channel by the way
The rusty nail accident reminded me I was drilling holes in an aluminum tool box with my finger on the back side, with brand new titanium bits....OUCH!!!
I’ve drilled a hole in my mitt once. It left a mark. Was jumping out of a house from the second floor of a house being built. Wouldn’t ya know it. I landed on my hoof on a 16d nail jutted out of a two by fer. Hard to hop in pain with that nailed to my foot. Can’t remember all the tetanus shots I’ve had, they just give me another.
Reminds me of when I stepped on a pitchfork as a kid and sent that thing straight through my foot. Hurt like nothing I’d ever felt before.
I've been using Sprayway glass cleaner since the early 80's. Still the best working (And best smelling ) stuff around. I'll be trying the other cleaners and waxes too !!
That right there is the truck I want right now. Home work truck perfection.
I was born in 1980 what a fine and vintage year 🍻
Detailing guy here. I clean the glass after I do the dash.
Yep, always save the glass for last. Otherwise you'll have a bad time.
Also I may add that you should spray onto the cloth and not directly on the dashboard. keep up the good work ! Love the channel!!
Yep spraying the cloth works well.
The best trick for putting on the interior protectant without getting it on your glass is to spray it on your rag and wipe it on instead of spraying it on the part.
Derek: I love these square bodies! Had a 1974 metallic orange camper special! Another vehicle I wrenched on , as I told you about my 67 Pontiac Fire- chicken! I touched every bolt on that truck rebuilt every thing on that truck! Was able to get a camper shell that had all the windows blown out of it, with no rear opening. I was working at a body shop at the time was able to do all the work on it there, it was one of my perks! The other body man and I were life long friends with the owner and his extended family, we were all like minded people! And all part of the extended family it was a great situation! I ended having to get a new big block , long block crate engine from our Chevy Jobber, dealership that we purchased all our parts through back in the day which was around 1980, it cost me $2,400.00 . About a year previous it needed a new trans so it was all pretty fresh! Had it for years till I pretty near wore out! We also was able to purchase a used 19 ft travel trailer that we were able to fix up! Wore that out ! We all started an off road club called So-Cal off road , we had a blast raising three daughters it was about the time when Honda had come out with the three wheelers , then the quads we wore everything out! Lots of maintenance but a great time a lot of kids don’t know what they are missing today stuck in the house with virtual game playing so I enjoy watching you work on these vehicles and doing it with your family! It’s a good thing for Fellers and Fellet’s to do with their family’s! Keep up the good work !
