Ive driven past there many times , next time I'll allow time to look at how these folk lived. Pulls us all up , when we take time to consider what we have today. Thanks both , great video.
A fascinating story from a very challenging place to live. I can see why New Zealand would be an attractive option! Thanks guys and hope your back is feeling better Mrs TT!
Such an interesting yet sad history. I’m with you. I would not survive living there. Probably wouldn’t even survive camping there. We’ll definitely stop there if we’re ever up that way again.
Loved this video Tim. Well told and thoughtfully done. I'll certainly make the effort to go and have a look if I'm up in that part of the world again (which is more than likely!). Cheers.
Cheers mate, that’s really kind. I’m a bit of a history nerd but I think it’s a place worth visiting. I very much look forward to seeing up in the far north again.
Oh I just love your Videos from Caithness and Sutherland, I'd like to think that I've always had an appreciation for the drive from Scrabster to Inverness but I'm down so little now since covid I feel deprived of it. (although living in Orkney is no hardship) I came down a couple weeks ago and went to Whaligoe steps for the first time then across to beautiful Durness the next day, all the while being able to see my beloved Orkney just across the Pentland Firth, the far North of Scotland (Orkney and Shetland included) truly is special.
That's so kind of you to say. I think there are so many little gems in Caithness and Sutherland, it's a joy to share them. Orkney has it's fair share of gems too!
Very interesting vid. Thank you. Not my kind of life either though. The clearances were brutal. Imagine the idea of oppressed people having to travel to another country in boats. So pleased that in 2023 were are now civilised enough that this no longer happens... 😢

It's so true. It's hard to imagine what was life was like for those people.

Cheers mate. Its quite a spot and there are plenty of them throughout the Highlands. Mrs TT is much improved. 😊
I’m not sure you’d want to live there even if it were called Goodbae! Thanks for the vid and get better soon Mrs TT.
That's a fair point!

It really is sad and it's not the only place with such a story in the Highlands. Well worth a visit if you get up to Caithness.

Indeed and for all such stories both then and now, we are talking about people, fellow human beings. I think that's important to remember.
