Supergrass Albums Ranked From Worst to Best

- What is Britpop anyways? Supergrass defied categorization with their blend of punk, alternative, indie, and classic rock. In the process they made some of my favorite music of the late 90's and early 00's. Sit back and enjoy as I look at the all-too-brief career of Supergrass, and rank all 6 of their records from worst to best.
Great ranking! I very much appreciate another American talking in-depth about Supergrass. "I Should Coco" came out right as I was entering high school in 1995 and I loved it immediately. Everyone loved "Alright" but I can't recall too many friends or fellow students who actually had the album? Hm. My love for it saw me through all their albums, and our rankings would be fairly close! Thank you!
Definitely agree with you on In It For The Money being their best album
1. In It For The Money
2. I Should Coco
3. Life On Other Planets
4. Supergrass
5. Road to Rouen
6. Diamond Hoo Ha
1. Life on Other Planets 2. In It For the Money 3. I Should Coco 4. Supergrass 5. Road to Rouen 6. Diamond Hoo Ha. Such a great band. I got to see them live a few times. It felt like the energy of an early Who concert minus the destruction. Didnt really. connect with their final 2 albums. Maybe time to give them another listen. I go back and forth between Supergrass and Blur for my favorite band of the 90s. Any chance you want to rank Blur albums? I think the 90s were an excellent decade for music. A nice comeback from the hair metal and sterile synth based music and generally bad production of the 80s.
I lived in the UK at the time, and I remember them being pretty big, and Alright was a massive hit.... but in the Britpop period the biggest bands were Oasis and Blur.....Supergrass were maybe in the next tier down ...
Hey Jason, with Supergrass being a very underrated band, their bass player Mick Quinn now plays in another hugely underrated 90s band: Swervedriver! Have you heard them before?
Just saw them live in London last week. They were awesome, hit after hit after hit! Great show and they can definitely still cut it live no doubt! My opinion as a Yorkshireman, drummer of 34 years and lover of guitar pop through to metal is that Supergrass are great song writers and feel good hit makers. They matured as song writers and performers and I am really glad i got to see them in 2020 and back in 1998. Hopefully i can catch them again in the UK this summer too. Well done Supergrass you did right to return I hope you make another great album together!
A brilliant, underrated band and I’m delighted to hear you’re such a big fan 👍🏻
PS - I agree with your no.1 choice.
I don't think Supergrass get as much respect as they deserve in the music media but they do have a lot of fans in the UK. They reformed and toured just before lockdown to some big audiences. Definitely one of my favourite britpop bands. I still listen to them. In it for the money is my favourite album too.
Wow, there was a time probably 15 years ago when I could not stop listening to In It For The Money - such a great record. Road To Rouen is also excellent but in a different way. Their first one is good, but like you said the sophistication isn't there yet. I'll have to give those others a spin here on YT.
Really appreciate your lists. Good luck with school.
I am glad you like Supergrass. They should have been bigger. Like some massive UK bands, they never got the US market. There are a few bands where I can listen to any cut off of any album, and it's always quality. Gaz is a superb songwriter, singer. The only thing missing in their arsenal was a little bit of danger.
Great review!
1. In it for the Money
2. Supergrass
3. Life In Other Planets
4 Road to Rouen
5. I Should Coco
6. Diamond Hoo Ha
All great albums. Gaz solo
1. Matador
2. Here Come the Bombs
2 World Strongest Man
Great video, nice to hear someone rank Supergrass so highly! As to your question about how they’re perceived in the UK, sadly they’re only really known for their 90s hit ‘Alright’ and as a result seen as almost a novelty/comedy act by the public.
I know this is a tall order - and I don’t know if you like his records - but a Frank Zappa ‘Worst to Best’ list wold be fantastic to hear from you! The Internet is full of Zappa fans who would probably like to hear your views.
Supergrass is a band that had it all - creativity, musicianship, vocals, sophisticated arrangements and a great ear for melody. In It For The Money is at the top for me followed by Road to Rouen (the French city where I believe they made the album).
Got hooked on Alright from the Clueless soundtrack. Apparently Elliott Smith was a Supergrass fan and walked out on the headliner Radiohead when Supergrass was done opening lol.
Self titled at the bottom? 😳 Wow!
2 weeks late but great ranking! I really like them and wouldn't even really call them britpop. I heard they are reforming and touring next year.
Xray is my fave album from Supergrass!!! :(
A very underrated band. Road to Rouen was my favourite.
Mine would be
1 in it for the money
2. Road to Rouen
3. I should coco
4. Supergrass
5. Life on other planets
6. Diamond HHM
Live at Ally Pally this year was incredible...love em
I was mad on Supergrass back in the 90's but I have less time for them now. It's possible I overdosed on them a bit. My favourite albums by them are their second and fourth, in that order so we have a match. My least favourite is the last one. Road To Rouen starts very impressively but peters out a bit for me. Supergrass are very well regarded in the UK, although they never really shook off the Monkees type image from their early days, and in the end I think they found themselves going round in circles commercially, with audiences constantly hankering after the early hits. I saw them live at a festival in the late 90's and they were very impressive. There is a superb hits DVD available out there, which has a very entertaining documentary on it.
I Should Coco is the best one!!!!!!!❤️🤘🏻 Sitting up Straight, I’d Like To Know, Strange Ones, Mansize, Caught by the Fuzz.... 🙉🤠
Hi I love supergrass they were so much more than just a britpop band I also love gaz Coombes solo albums .
It was unfortunate for Supergrass that 'Alright' became a hit in the midst of the Britpop explosion and had a similar sound, because it got them lumped in with the other bands of that movement, many of whom haven't aged very well. In fact, Supergrass were a much more creative and sophisticated act. They were also affected by the inevitable backlash against Britpop in the late 90s (their third album onwards was unjustly overlooked for this reason). In answer to your question, they had a loyal UK following but were never 'big' in the way that some of their contemporaries (Oasis, The Verve, Suede etc) were, and I think the Britpop label did them no favours. Gaz Coombes has gone on to a similarly under-appreciated solo career.
I believe that Supergrass are quite big in Europe. This is the best brit pop band ever that people now want to see live cause they are touring europe right know.
Isn't it hard making lists. I'd have self titled top 2 hahahaha!! Road to Rouen is my personal fave!
oh and i'd funnily have In it for the money last....lists hey hahaha
Yeh they're such a great band in it for the money is awesome I love every track especially Richard III they're also quite popular in the uk for thr song alright
Strange, isn't it... My favourite is the eponymous one. Everyone else seems to be indifferent about it...
I still think it’s very good.
1. In It For The Money
2. I Should Coco
3. Road To Rouen
4. Life On Other Planets
5. Supergrass
6. Diamond Hoo Ha

Exactly. In it for the Money is perfect. But no, R to R should be number two for its sheer panache( to coin a French word) .
Don’t forget the side project I think they’re called rats or something like that
Hot Rats
@@TastesLikeMusic as in Frank Zappa great channel by the way love your no nonsense approach

I think dinamond hoo ha is best than road to ruen
1:00 what?? Are you kidding me? Ok, no need to watch more of this.
I always pass on Supergrass, unless it's actually super-cannabis.
Big mistake.
