Now you've gone and made me want to fly a DLG! That looks like a blast.
Yes it is a great way to spend a calm sunny day.
Be careful going back to DLG Andrew - it's easy to overdo it. I blew my shoulder with mine and it's still dodgy even after a year. Build up gradually and stretch a lot - work on your flexibility. Us old buggers break a lot easier than we did 40 years ago.
Oh yes great advice thanks. I did hold back on the throws and survived OK.
Weather looks idyllic, ours is kack, as usual ....🤔😳🙄😀🇬🇧
Yep, perfect day
nice precise little servos
Fantastic!
If you don't use the neck strap on the radio, then your arm is free as a counter weight. That alone will give you much better launches.
Yes I would usually have a wrist strap
Super comme d'habitude !!
Nice Bird Andrew!!
I think so too!
It looks like a lot of fun... my slopes up here are very small... makes me want to build one to play with..
Perfect for light wind days Craig.
It is really heartwarming and a lot of relief to see FPV / RC royalty like you, Dear Andrew, advocate quality servos. I have been preaching this over and over in the Inav Fixed Wing Group and others, and the only thing I've achieved so far is that people don't use MG90s any more. Are you interested in a collaboration for a blog or a video series about servo tech in general and for the flight controlled niche of FPV in special ?
Hi grumpy and thanks. But I'll have to pass on the collaboration for the moment, too much on my plate.
@@AndrewNewton considering the amount of projects I have atm, I was probably speaking about 2026 anyway ;)
@@grumpyoldnerd8727 Ha yes I hear you.
If this is a copy of the popular ag 4xx series airfoils then you dont need reflex for the launch, the wing is moulded with the reflex already in, as in when the trailing edge is flat that should be reflex, I was flying mine for about a year until I came across an article on the foils that showed the camber positions..
+1= speed 0 = launch -1 cruise -2 thermal .. I had been flying mine around with -1 cruise because I thought it flew better that way, No wonder, I had been flying in launch mode all along ;]
Oh, great information thanks.
Lovely with no motor sound. Wait until you get her on the coast #1!
Yes it would suit a light wind day nicely
Awesome looking new field / oval location. The servos are definitely quick on the response, as nice and snappy at the top of the launch. Is the appeal of DLG over using a hi-start just less equipment, or it there something I'm missing? It does look more challenging to get a good launch. Perhaps is part of the fun.
It's just a different competition category I guess, and less equipment required.
Hi Andrew, good video as always! Seperate question please! On one of your videos, ref vario, I think you said that you turned off the middle tone of the vario! I only have " tone" or " silent " if I remember correctly could you please post how to do that? Many thanks and I understand if you don't have time. Cheers
Just have to choose Silent and it only beeps when it's rising or sinking
@@AndrewNewton Ok, never realized that! I was looking for a third setting! I will try that. Thanks Andrew. Oh and what a quick response from you! Cheers mate from a very gloomy Devon.
Lol, I hate that, when you're planning on catching it and it starts flying backwards on ya. I have yet to dare doing a quick turn launch.
Ha yes, out of practice. It so cool when you can get it to stop and pluck it out of the air
Andrew - In very light winds, could you slope-soar a discus glider - thereby obtaining longer flights??
Yes indeed. I have done videos on a 1m sand slope
I bet it would do awesome by the ocean, it would keep going and going. What do you call it, slop-soaring?
Judging by the videos Andrew uploaded in the past, he's incredibly experienced at slope soaring
@@Blackfang_12 I learned the term from him.
Yes, slightest wind and any slope would do
I want to get into DLG gliders. Any recommendation for a good glider that I can start and grow with?
Balsa DLG kits are the cheapest, but any decent composite DLGs cost close to $1000. Maybe look for a used one for sale.
Who Said that modeling is not a sport 😊
Indeed. Have to be careful mot to overdo the fun
