Remember to take dip stick out before you start, it will get in the way when putting the pan back up. Also, you can hit the side of the pan with a rubber mallet, and the pan will pop off.

whatw as the issue with the original pan?

Use a real gasket. Half that goop gets squeezed into the oil pan. They put it on the oil pan in the factory because it's controlled conditions. Felpro sells a gasket that doesn't require sealant.

Felpro gaskets are straight garbage. Will be hard as a rock in a couple years. Many Asian vehicles use sealant instead of a gasket. Apply it how you’re supposed to and it won’t squeeze into the pan.

I got all the nuts but the last one that's right under the exhaust tube. It's pretty rusted in and can't get leverage on it with a wrench or swivel. Any ideas?

I know this is a little late but I had the same problem I use the Chisel to knock the head of the Bolt loose

when using the torque wrench you must hold the handle in the same place all the time whren securing the bolts.

I actaully have a 2013 scion tc but the motor is a 2 arfe 2.5 l just like the rav 4 in this video and I need to drop the oil pan to be able to remove the bolt that holds my passenger side control In so I can replace the control arm. Much easier than removing the motor mount just to get a control arm out and a new one in. As the oil pan gets in the way of the bolt.
I think though I am just going to order a new oil pan so I don't have to go through the process of cleaning all the sludge out.

Thanks for the video I am going to use a fel pro gasket and affix the gasket directly to a new oil pan and afix it so it sticks using permatex oil and gas resistant sealer or gasket maker, and then after letting the oil pan sit for 10 minutes then install on my vehicle, I do not like rtv sealant, and I do not.like just using rtv sealant and putting it directly on the oil pan or directly on the engine.
Getting that stuff on the the bottom of the engine not only makes it a pain to be able to unbolt the oil pan and drop it. But the scraping off of the bottom of the engine in the areas where the pan bolts into.
I would much rather use the procedure like if you are dropping an automatic transmission fluid pan which involves putting sealant on the areas of the pan so the gasket sticks to the oil pan then let it set for 10 minutes. And remove any excess sealant then reinstall or install back on the vehicle and check for leaks after filling.
And a gasket for an oil pan online is very inexpensive I saw a fel pro for as little as 9 dollars.
And a tube of petmatex is less than 10 dollars.
If done right it won't leak.
And if the pan needs to be removed for future deposit and sludge cleaning. It will be much easier the next time vs doing it the stupid Toyota way.
I guess Toyota likes making extra work and time for mechanics and auto shops.
Which cuts into there ability to make money.
The faster while increasing accuracy the job gets done the more money a shop can make per day.
Another example Toyota often does not grease the outer areas of their wheel hubs like your supposed to and they get seized in the hole and start making noise.
And it makes it a pain to get out often requiring an air Chizzle to break them free.
You can't cut corners by using rtv sealant in place of a gasket yes it will work but if you use a gasket and use sealant so the gasket sticks to the pan directly then the pan can be removed easily and save 15 minutes to an hour in total time to do the job if you need to in the future.

@@1AAuto your welcome the guy who said you don't need rtv sealant with a gasket is wrong as the gasket that works with the 2 arfe engine which is what I assume is the engine in the rav 4 is would bunch up as I have a fel pro gasket. In the video I liked how you applied the rtv sealant directly to the oil pan. Instead of directly on the engine
I just recomend affixing a gasket by felpro as it is a non cork gasket and is not a paper gasket. Over the rtv sealant or gasket maker. So the gasket holds in place.

Fel-Pro clearly states NOT to use any kind of sealer with their gasket. Doing so will cause the gasket to slide out under pressure and fail.

Work a sharp putty knife between the block and the pan to cut the RTV and the pan will come right off.

I notice you didn’t put the gasket on the oil pan. I’m actually going to change my oil pan on my 2006 rav4. So if you use a the sealer you don’t need the gasket right?? I actually bought the gasket for my oil pan

applying sealant in lieu of a gasket is easy and requires a long waiting period before adding the oil. Gaskets work. They've been using them since Henry Ford days

Fel pro makes a oil pan gasket.

From what I am seeing I would for me use permatex oil and gasket sealer to affix afix a gasket directly to the oil pan so it does not come loose then install to the bottom of the engine as I do not like using rtv sealant directly at the bottom of the engine where the pan bolts into it makes to much of a mess and it is much easier to remove a future gasket from an oil pan and remove gasket sealer vs the 2 ways I have seen the less work the better.
