First thank you for the video. i must correct 1 thing. Once you get the exaust brackets off and u have just insulation left instead of ripping it out. Just take dust shield dow and tug gently on insulation at the same time and it will comeout in one piece.

I can't stress enough how having a lift makes this whole job HUGELY easier and MUCH faster. Working on your back in your driveway makes everything you have to reach up into a total pain for those old enough to drive one of these die-hards, especially if you're on gravel or in a tight garage. A lift affects what tools you use from extensions to lighting. It's fine if you do have a real lift, but with jack stands it's almost unfair to make people think it's nearly as easy as this video shows. I honestly do appreciate this video showing the steps, really, but I think it needs to be said you will be under your Camry all day , if not into the wee hours if you think this job can be done by most DIYers in an hour or 3, not to mention when/if the head pipe studs break, like 2 of mine did. How's about talking about contingencies when bolts starts snappin' off or one is stripped on your 207 year old Toyodal Clamry 2.2l?

There is a gasket for the 97-01 Camry 2.2l. I'm in the process of fixing a RTV gasket leak someone did b/c they didn't use the gasket or leave the sealer in a bead, so you may want to consider either buying a good gasket instead of making one out of sealer or leaving the sealer in a bead. Felpro makes a decent rubberized gasket that doesn't require sealer and is made for imperfect mating surfaces. This is still a great video that shows the whole job head to tail, so I thank you for posting it.

I'm in the process of doing this as well, I have the gasket but I'm debating just using rtv after watching the video and reading in forums about just using rtv. Except instead of spreading it I'm going to leave it in a bead

You have to drop the exhaust pipe just to reach a few bolts on the oil pan! That is an insane design!
    .
I have a 2004 Toyota Corolla, and I'm learning how to change my oil pan gasket, before I do it for real. I am suddenly relieved that I have a Corolla and not a Camry.
    .
And my Corolla oil pan has an actual gasket, which is much easier than dealing with gasket sealer. I bought one for cheap on Ebay Motors.

    • @pablogon98
      @pablogon98 2 роки тому

Same here! Seems like a hassle having to remove so many parts of the exhaust only to replace the oil pan. And the gasket part too!, remember to line it up properly and torque the bolts in a criss cross pattern ;)

Denatured Alcohol works great at removing silicone gasket material from metal surfaces. Use it along with a copper dish scrubber, wear gloves or the alcohol will remove all the moisture from your hands and your fingernails will split at the cuticles.

I have a question here. You might know the answer. Is it possible to remove the oil pump housing without removing the oil pan? I think it might be possible to move it enough to get at the bolts holding the oil pickup to the housing. But maybe not.
By the way, there is an aftermarket oil pan gasket available. That is what I would use, rather than silcone. Silicone requires the same skills as a cake decorator.

  • @zolof911

Tip: Watch the video all the way through before you start! Don't remove the insulator by pulling on it as shown at time 7:40. Once you remove the cover of the flywheel, the insulator slides off of the two posts. At time 17:30, he talks about this. Anyone know what the part number for this insulator is?
On my 95 coupe, I did not need to disconnect the exhaust pipe to get the pan out. I found it more effective to tap downward on the lip of the pan at the front of the engine with a large pry bar in order to separate it from the engine.

Also #Chrisfix'sArmy here: Don't use a metal tool to scrape the gasket on any surface, you could mess it up. Better to use a plastic scraper or a scotch brite abrasive sponge.

Toyota makes maintenance so complicated and time consuming with a lot of cursing working upside down on the ground. What's wrong with a single regular gasket? Using this glue will make it more difficult to remove and clean the pan next time. My 2000 V6 Camry is nothing like this, the trans and engine oil pans are located in flip/flop positions.

Neal Seamon try a pry bar or screwdriver to wedge it apart.

Don’t use a pry bar you will dent it and loose shape of the sealing. Use a rubber mallet they are like 4$ at autoparts

Tap a plastic putty knife it there to break up the old seal. You could use a metal one or a razor blad if you are very careful not to put scratches/cuts in the metal.

Was there a second torque after the initial 48in/lbs?
