Isn't it the coolest thing when a great artist, whatever his craft his, turns out to be just an outstanding humble guy like anyone else struggling to be better every day? God I love this series of interviews SO much. Keep it up!!
This Artist Series is just brilliant, man. Every bit as inspiring as actually watching them play. More so, even. That being said, I'll pretty much watch Steve Jordan talkin' bout anything 🙂
I saw him with John Mayer his solo spot was the best solo I’ve ever heard in my life and I’ve seen all the best. The sound of his drums and the way he tuned his drums is otherworldly. Fucking groove personified!!
My theory about playing music is that the person that you are on the inside comes out in the way you play, now I know why Steve Jordan is such a great musician.
Over and over again Steve talks of his parents, their support and especially his father. That is so, so important. More than being a great drummer, he is a great son. Guys, if you are a father, be that first, drums can come second, because you may be raising the next truly great one.
this interview just blew my mind through the roof. wow. who else just wanted to be there to see steve jordan SHEDDING his brains out until turn out to be a LEGEND???
Steve represents the very best of musicianship. He's is deeply engaging and thoughtful in his approach. His beat and groove are astonishing, but the thing that brings to the gig is his tremendous heart and compassion. He was the first drummer I idolized, much as he did with Ringo. I am so grateful for his contributions to our culture.
Steve Jordan REALLY gets inside the Groove . Love watching him play and focusing on that Hi Hat , Not taking his eyes of the sticks Striking these Hats . The Master
I can honestly say I feel like I'm a better musician after listening to this interview. It's amazing to hear such an accomplished and unique artist talk about music with that kind of passion. Great job guys!!
Can't get over how wise he is and and how humble he is in what he he knows what he does't know~ One of the best human interviews EVER! If America sounded like this~ We'd be so good by now... I never hear Honesty like this anywhere! God Bless you Steve...I have to shut up now... enough said....
Ah man, this is food for the soul! I reckon an hour's teaching with either of these dudes and I'd be twice the drummer I am right now!! Legends indeed!
'There's only one me.' That is so important for any musician (or person) to understand about themselves and embrace with pride and confidence. Also, 'You have to be honest with yourself; what are your shortcomings?' And 'good versus famous'. But what Mr. Jordan reminds us is that there is a deep history of listening, learning and experience behind that groove of his, which while appearing to be simple and straightforward is extremely deep because along the way he also developed his musicality. Also great to see so many jazz players - Sonny Payne, Shelly Manne, Art Blakey, Ben Riley etc. - mentioned. Too many drummers overlook the art of playing and simply rush to develop their craft. Art and craft are two different things. A player can learn from jazz, even if they are a rock player (or a drummer without genre, as Jordan suggests). John Bonham and Sabbath's Bill Ward were big jazz fans. Ditto Gadd and Colaiuta. Another fine interview Dom.
Such a joy to listen to this selfless giant. Homage to all that helped him be him So rare these days~ God bless his humanity and his skills of heart that brings such music and thoughtfulness to this otherwise ignorant world..Amen! God's speed!
Awesome!! Steve Jordan is my fav drummer of all time . . .behind Elvin Jones!! I've seen his interviews and heard his story a few times and this is one of the best of the best interviews. Great history of his development.
Thank you for this interview. I love Steve's playing! What a treat to hear about his upbringing and education. "It's better to be good instead of being famous" love that!
Hands down a true ambassador of soul, humanity, fellowship, and trust in one’s ability to follow their passion and succeed. Truly inspired by you, Mr. Jordan. Just ordered me some 17” Paiste Jordan hats! Pax Amor
As an amateur musician these interviews are inspiring. The style of Fomularo asking intelligent questions and letting the guests express themselves, literally making space for the interview to breath, no egos involved it's fantastic!
yes - growing up in NYC - I can relate.. back in the day every night there was a great musician playing somewhere, where it was the Blue Note, SOBs, CBGBs, Carnegie Hall, The Apollo, Madison Square Garden,,, and on and on... all kinds of great music... then DJ shit came along. Nothing like live music. Steve is awesome !
I've always dug his playing. One thing I love about UA-cam is rediscovering certain things, and time to time, I reference back to the early- mid '80's Dave Letterman Shows just to watch and listen to that band's clips. I still think those original opening theme tunes that band wrote for the show were Soo damn cool!. Best ones ever written for that show! Along with some of the newer vids up of him for VIc Firth, Yamaha/ Paiste, Clinics, playing old K's etc.
What a great interview. Very great information from Steve. I like his point about woodshedding even after you think you have "made" it. Hubert Sumlin was fired by Howlin Wolf. He told him he needed to go work on his playing and find his true style. That was just tough love from Howlin Wolf. Hubert came back and was an integral part to Howlin Wolf's band. He respected Howlin Wolf for that for the rest of his playing days with him. Steve Jordan is giving us that same advice.
... another terrific interview from Dom yet again ! Quite honestly I was sorry the interview came to an end .Steve Jordan , such a straight ahead , seasoned , honest talker , and I might add a humble person in respect of his talent . Untouched by his gift he admits his limitations , realizing the road ahead is never ending to the quest for '' fame '' so to speak .
Steve Jordan, what a dude. Such well rounded perspective's here, I'm going to recommend this interview to all of my students'....was hang'n off every word. I dig Dom's interview style as well. Drummers - such great people! Keep em' coming Dom.
This interview has a wealth of hidden treasures in the principles and values discussed in the form of anecdotes and examples. Fifty one minutes of wisdom. Thanks!
Amazing. Great stuff. As a recent drummer at 25, and a lifelong on again off again muscian with guitar, small bands with friends, and high school orchestra, and now playing with musicians in New York City, this is a huge aspiration. Trying to make the plunge into a music business is tough enough, but being old enough to know how crazy the idea is now, this sort of story gives me a lot of hope. Because from what I gathered about what Jordan said, he's not successful because he's the most talented or best musician, but because he puts his best on the line constantly, tests and pushes himself to grow, puts the sake of the music first before his own pride, and uses his resources like they're going out of style. His playing is a huge influence on me, I enjoy his groove like no other, and am inspired to put in the time and effort and do what it takes to "be good". Thank you Dom & company for making this happen.
Great interview. Steve is one of my all time fav musicians. My only complaint is that I couldn't see those gorgeous eyes of his as he told his stories. ; )
Great interview, great drummers! Amazing insights from growing up with the musical education of being around legends. Really agreed with his Steve's comments at the end too of focus on being good vs. famous, & how "reality" shows have affected music these days. Awesome!
Dom, when are you going to interview the Allman Bros. and Doobie Bros. that pioneered double drummers with a vengeance? The Allman Bros drummers were some of the most intense improvisational work in RnR history.
This is great, I love how much I've learned from listening to Steve here. But I wish he would've said more about John Mayer, instead of just mentioning his name, because John Mayer definitely helped him get his mortgage payments taken care of for the last few years. LOL!
OK I still love you Steve Jordan, but a guy who claims he knows his history slams Donald Trump love to have a conversation with you about history. You school me about drumming I’ll school you about history. New York liberals you got a love him I wasn’t going to get political until he made that ridiculous comment. Social engineering works very well especially in a place like New York and California.
Anyone who has seen the documentary chuck Berry hail hail rock and roll Steve Jordan nails the drumming that was done on the original recordings
Isn't it the coolest thing when a great artist, whatever his craft his, turns out to be just an outstanding humble guy like anyone else struggling to be better every day? God I love this series of interviews SO much. Keep it up!!
Love Steve's work with Steve Khan.
This Artist Series is just brilliant, man. Every bit as inspiring as actually watching them play. More so, even. That being said, I'll pretty much watch Steve Jordan talkin' bout anything 🙂
Thanks Rob!! Our goal of The Sessions & the Artist Series is to Empower*Educate*Enrich*Entertain.....and inspire!!
Rob Brown
It's a real tribute to Dom Famularo and the respect that these artists have for him.
Robert Dore Thanks so much!!!
I didn't know ol rob was into this vids
I saw him with John Mayer his solo spot was the best solo I’ve ever heard in my life and I’ve seen all the best. The sound of his drums and the way he tuned his drums is otherworldly. Fucking groove personified!!
Steve is a groove machine.
And maybe the coolest person alive!! Steve would give Miles a run for his coolness!
Rest in peace, Dom. 🙏 Thank you for everything! ❤
My theory about playing music is that the person that you are on the inside comes out in the way you play, now I know why Steve Jordan is such a great musician.
Man at the end when he broke down the industry, fame and the craft were true words of wisdom.
an embassador of good will - yes
Over and over again Steve talks of his parents, their support and especially his father. That is so, so important. More than being a great drummer, he is a great son. Guys, if you are a father, be that first, drums can come second, because you may be raising the next truly great one.
I love to listen to Steve Jordan speak as well as play.
Steve's energy is outstanding *
this interview just blew my mind through the roof. wow.
who else just wanted to be there to see steve jordan SHEDDING his brains out until turn out to be a LEGEND???

Steve's playing on Briefcase 💼 full of blues blew my mind, his playing on that record is his best to me, his chops kick ass😎🇺🇸💪👍.
My favorite interview EVER..For so many reasons...Such class..

Steve Jordan, Mr. Groovemaster! Thank You..
I used to watch DLetterman in the 80's specifically to watch the band! Jordan/Bullock/Miller...insane!
What an inspiring man, thanks Steve.
Badd ass, Steve is a class act. So much wisdom contained in this interview!!
Such a joy to listen to this selfless giant. Homage to all that helped him be him So rare these days~ God bless his humanity and his skills of heart that brings such music and thoughtfulness to this otherwise ignorant world..Amen! God's speed!
Incredible
AWESOME
Oh my God, every word is a gold!

Interesting to hear all the back stories of how these greats started playing. Really enjoying the series.
Incredible grasp on the music, the players, our music culture...and the biz
Fabulous !!
Steve likes to talk. :) Great. I particularly like that Dom, a knowledgeable drummer himself, lets his interviewees talk as much as they want.
Hands down a true ambassador of soul, humanity, fellowship, and trust in one’s ability to follow their passion and succeed. Truly inspired by you, Mr. Jordan. Just ordered me some 17” Paiste Jordan hats! Pax Amor
The last three minutes of this is the best part. Sage advice from one of the greats!! Love Steve!
Great job on the interview!
As an amateur musician these interviews are inspiring. The style of Fomularo asking intelligent questions and letting the guests express themselves, literally making space for the interview to breath, no egos involved it's fantastic!

Great great story, fascinating.
Very cool, Thank you!!!!!!
Hey, I know you))) The interview is great!
Wow , this video I was searching mounth
After the first time I heard Steve Jordan play, I through out 80% of what I was playing and became a better drummer.
Unfortunately I didn't become a better speller; threw not through.
steve is the...S*U*P*E*R G*R*O*O*V*E!!!
Nobody hits a snare drum like Steve Jordan. Cool interview, but now you have to interview his alter ego Charlie Drayton!
LOL!
Wesley Snipes has so much groove and is such a great actor, I love this guy.
What's that intro tune? Thanks in advance!
Glad you like the Legend Series...Our videographer used a yt royalty free track without an artist name & doesn't have title :-(
is it just me, or have some of Keith Richards mannerisms rubbed off on Steve. just the little things he does lol
Obligatory Trump dig at 49:45
Remember to take off your sunglasses when your in an interview kids.
OK I still love you Steve Jordan, but a guy who claims he knows his history slams Donald Trump love to have a conversation with you about history.
