You guys don't realize that Frank was nuts(1), he thought of these crazy, badass segments(2), he taught somebody else how to play them(3), then he records it(4), then his extremely talented son carries on his father's vision almost note for note(5). Pure genius.
Shiela Gonzalez is an AWESOME Talent along with Dweezil, Napolean and this amazing group of musicians ! They dont need the showboat ego of Steve Vai or Terry Bozzio, as good as they are. Dweezil & the group ZPZ stand on their own . What a tribute to Frank !!! I just got the ZPZ 5 DVD SET ! Dweezil has created a masterpiece from Frank's classics !
Zappa trumped 75% of the things I suffered through in composition class, wouda mowed his lawn, carried his equipment, dumped the trash whateer, for just 1 lesson. Might have saved a lot of wasted tuition.
I was there for Dweezils 1st tour & watching them blew me away , after seeing the Mothers in the 60's & 70's , then Frank in the 70's & 80's I went in not expecting much , I mean after seeing FZ do all this stuff I didn't have high expectations of Dweezil , boy was I happily wrong , got the DVD/CD box set now & watch it all the time , getting too old for concerts anymore .
Scheila Gonzales is a bloody genius. Her sax playing has that staccato Maceo influence that I love so much. The Rhodes piano intro is nothing short of classic. Zappa has constructed a wonderful vehicle for improvisation with this song. ZPZ does a fantastic job!
great great music God the weasel you get there you getting there man the saxophonist was real good too I like to say the whole group was great I appreciate that thank you.
I have seen Zappa plays Zappa...Good show but i have also seen Frank in concert two times, There is no way anyone can replicate Frank and his bands. If you didn't get to see Frank and even if you did seeing Dweezil is worth while.
Great version. Somehow , stupid me, I didn't feel like buying the whole ZPZ idea in the beginning, but after seeing several videos, I believe that FZ is smiling from Rock Heaven watching his son keeping his legacy alive.
Just saw them play this tonight and it was a monster. They destroyed the place. More swing and feel than this version. Tonight's was both jazzier & heavier. Chris Norton killed the piano part and Scott Thunes just about did structural damage to the theater. Outstanding!!
Sheila Gonzales is a real musician and nice person and can play better than most sax players out there. She is NO amatuer!! So whoever used that term to descibe her does not know her or has not heard her play.
You know, Ruth was such at one with the band, totally there, that I never thought of her as a Chick In The Band. Says a lot for her and perhaps a bit for earlier onset of althz. Ruth was such an epic additon to the band - in fact - Frank wrote stuff just for her, her mere presence made the band and the music much better and he chops, her skill, challeneged Frank. I have to admit I never once thought of Ruth as being anything other than One Of The Band.
this was great, but this is one of those songs that was perfect on tape and just sounded different when Frank and his selected co-conspirators played it. though Dweez always treats his dad's music with respect. something I'm not 100% sure Frank would approve of. haha
A beautiful rendition by a fuckin kick-ass sax artist! and although I love Dweezil to death, I wish I could find a video of The Man performing this piece. I dream of this piece, it is the rockingest work in all of music-dom!!! Que Viva Frank Zappa!!!
To All Dat! Freaking Funking Frank Approved - For Sure! We miss you Frank! You must be lookin' down, proud that your family torch continues to burn talent and desire. Zappa for President! And Merry Fucking New Year!
I would like to quote DZ from Ann Arbor MI. "ifeel my fathers music has skipped a generation". So why is the ZFT trying to sue every other band including alumni for performing his music?? Good job keeping it alive!! Instead of wasting the money trying to erase his memory it should be used to celebrate it!! ZPZ alone can't carry the tourch!! Sorry DZ will never be half the guitar player his father was !!
Ahmet? Is the one who is doing the sueing. He has gone after Dweezil, stopped ZPZ. It's sad but very common in families. It's now 2020 and Dweezil is a superlative guitar player.
Okay, look - we're all used to Zappa being the Man's Last Refuge band - chicks don't like Frank. Frank never had chick's IN the band, right? So here's Shiela and it's..Whaaa. It does jolt. The inner guy voice thing is going - Should be NMB! Or Randy, or anybody but a .. a.. a Chick! She will never have the same groove as a guy but she does have chops. All shit aside - she deserve props. Not sure how I liek her singin Dirty Love, but she does play. It's D's band now, get used to it.
@IAmTheNietzsche in fact i prefer that Dweezil plays in HIS style, i don't want to hear an imitation of zappa cause he is unique, it is better to have dweezil play in his own musical language!!! (even if it is frank's songs) Don'tcha agree?
Scheila Gonzalez is truly amazing! The real epitome of a Zappa band, top-notch musicians pushing the boundaries. ZPZ is doing an outstanding job!
You guys don't realize that Frank was nuts(1), he thought of these crazy, badass segments(2), he taught somebody else how to play them(3), then he records it(4), then his extremely talented son carries on his father's vision almost note for note(5). Pure genius.

Jazz isn't dead. It just smells funny!!!!
Scheila is a QUEEN!
Scheila IS terrific, actually.
@@michaelshalom5622 Her solo reminds me Lou Marini's one on Purple Lagoon in New York which is my favorite sax solo !
Feckin Stunning Musicians......what a band.....
I seen this group of zpz in 09 in Omaha! Ray white was there, it was amazing
Zappa trumped 75% of the things I suffered through in composition class, wouda mowed his lawn, carried his equipment, dumped the trash whateer, for just 1 lesson. Might have saved a lot of wasted tuition.
The Grand Wazoo...ah Dweezil thanx for keeping this gem alive!
Damn. Scheila completely ripped the asshole out of her saxophone. That was intense. Loved it.
I have never enjoyed her solos.
Just saw them at the Keswick in PA on 3/8/20 - Sheila is still killing it!!! (and so is everyone else)
best intro ever [grand wazoo]or is it 21st century schizoid man[king crimson]
I was there for Dweezils 1st tour & watching them blew me away , after seeing the Mothers in the 60's & 70's , then Frank in the 70's & 80's I went in not expecting much , I mean after seeing FZ do all this stuff I didn't have high expectations of Dweezil , boy was I happily wrong , got the DVD/CD box set now & watch it all the time , getting too old for concerts anymore .
Got the box set too.... Dweezil signed it..... it is now a treasure! I keep it in a plastic sleeve.......
oh, Sheila!
Can't wait to see ZPZ in june, gonna be the greatest night of my life!!!
I bought the dvd and I fell in love, Scheila, ohhhh Scheila!

Frank Zappa is smiling down on his son.
nothing less than a masterpiece... wonderful solos great performance! great musicians and above all a genius spirit! Frank ftw
Wow, Scheila is absolutly stunning!
Great tune by the greatest musician the world has ever seen.

By the DVD. Well worth it.. Zappa does Zappa. The audio and the filming is nearly flawless.
Who is the guy on the keyboard? Nailed the original intro
My first Zappa concert was nearly 50 years ago. Wow.
This would be a little bit of saxophone teenage heaven, right here on Earth!
I have seen Zappa plays Zappa...Good show but i have also seen Frank in concert two times, There is no way anyone can replicate Frank and his bands. If you didn't get to see Frank and even if you did seeing Dweezil is worth while.
damn! i'm 47 & i'm crying with a large stooped smile!! just beautiful!!
had not seen this before. quite awesome. thank you.
does anyone feel like Frank is intervening through Dweezil?
Yes! I do...
No. Dweezil is a musician in his own right.
Just sublime!!
Great bass player!
What a fantastic line-up. Frank would have loved ZpZ.
Frank`s music is like a big treasury of different music styles. SO SHREWD!!!
Quel bonheur!Great les ami(e)s,Zappa notre ami!
love it!!
Marvellous! 🙂❤️
Utterly astonishing musicians!!!!
You go girl
Sheila Gonzales is a real musician and nice person and can play better than most sax players out there.
@SidVicious10101 We are lucky enough to be going to see ZPZ in June too! My wife bought us tickets for our wedding anniversary. We are thrilled!
From one of the Finest FZ compilations: The Grand Wazoo.
Sounds like Sheila has been listening to Johns Coltrane!
Zappa is great !
Great, like he's father's Band...
Thanks
"spinning in his grave"?
That's dancing, not spinning.
Great version. Somehow , stupid me, I didn't feel like buying the whole ZPZ idea in the beginning, but after seeing several videos, I believe that FZ is smiling from Rock Heaven watching his son keeping his legacy alive.
Sweet version of one of my favourite Frank tunes. The Rhodes riff is Monster !
Her solos were absolutely better live, when I saw ZPZ in Warsaw. I'll never forget the time she played theme of Pink Panther :)"
See the question in her hands? Upside down :) Good sound of her feeding herself a question
Music is the best!
Just saw them play this tonight and it was a monster. They destroyed the place. More swing and feel than this version. Tonight's was both jazzier & heavier. Chris Norton killed the piano part and Scott Thunes just about did structural damage to the theater. Outstanding!!
Regor Atalante and Sheila shit Torpedoes
brilliant
Hahaha yes!
Dweezil inherited his father's talent
YEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHH
Sheila Gonzales is a real musician and nice person and can play better than most sax players out there. She is NO amatuer!! So whoever used that term to descibe her does not know her or has not heard her play.
that was fun

I WOULD LOVE TO LIKE IT MORE BUT IT ONLY LETS ME DO IT ONCE!!!!!! AMAZINGLY GREAT PERFORMANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know, Ruth was such at one with the band, totally there, that I never thought of her as a Chick In The Band. Says a lot for her and perhaps a bit for earlier onset of althz. I wish that I was that saxophone...
HO VISTO LA MADONNA
glorious
this was great, but this is one of those songs that was perfect on tape and just sounded different when Frank and his selected co-conspirators played it. though Dweez always treats his dad's music with respect. something I'm not 100% sure Frank would approve of. haha

Napoleon Murphy Brock is a handsome man indeed
Don't mess with Sheila Gonzales......after she drops that sax she'll drop anybody at arm wrestling. And I'm only serious!
@TheFriendlyMoosh

@kroggwaff Indeed. The listener's eternal enemy.
detta äger fett!
5:33 wow lol
@NickDanger3
If you don't like improvisational soloing why would you even be listening to Zappa? Or any Prog for that matter.
@darkalleyheroes : OH, YEAH! :Q
Okay, look - we're all used to Zappa being the Man's Last Refuge band - chicks don't like Frank. Frank never had chick's IN the band, right? So here's Shiela and it's..Whaaa. It does jolt.
