  • In this episode of FLY TV, we get to follow Steffan Jensen and Patrik Bjurenstål when they fly fish for Swedish cod in Öresund. For them, the cod fly fishing started out as a complement to the sea trout fishing. They took their pike equipment and it didn't take long before they realized how easy and extremely fun the cod fishing is. During the episode, they will show you how to get started and which gear you need next time you decide to fly fish for cod.

      Hej Simon.
      dom fleste tillverkarna av ekolod, har bra lod till rimliga priser! Jag hade tittat på Lowrance modellerna som heter "hook" eller "elite".

    Reckon this type of thing would be doable on lighter rods than a #10? Say #5-6?

    • @steffanjensen282
      @steffanjensen282 8 років тому +1

      we tried, and of course it works, but the problem is to lift the fish off the bottom on lighter rods. Where we are fishing there's often a lot of current, so you are not only fishing the fish but also the boat drifting. I guess if you are fishing a spot with less current i would be a lot easier.

      I was flyfishing for Cod a few times, in northern Germany, where i live. Most of our Cod are a bit smaller, about 50 cm is the average size and in my opinion u need atleast an 8 weight, if you fish deeper than 4 meter. In shallower water u could take a 6 or 7 weight. But as i said our Cod are a bit smaller :)

      Moin Steffan,
      what fly line do you unse for Pearch (the one in Pearch Pro 2017) for example? Could you unse the same one for cod from shore as well?
      Thanks a lot!

      i use 5-weight for pollock and sea trout. you need power in the rod to keep the cod out of the kelp, so 7 would be appropriate imo (which is what i use)

    when doing catch and release, you should really push the barb down or break it off. makes a big difference for the fish.

    What is the point of doing this when you do not even have to cast? That the point of fly fishing. Its all about the presentation. You might as well use conventional tackle. This is not fly fishing. This is fly jigging.

      +Dan 2c plus Nah, man. That's a pretty uptight perspective... Fish however you find fun.

    • @DanielFantini
      @DanielFantini 8 років тому +1

      bustedcrunk no it just confuses me why they bring out all of their gear (like a strip basket) when they could just drop down the fly, drift, and bounce it off the bottom

      The point of fly fishing is catching fish and having fun.

      It's fly TV Dan. If they used spin tackle it wouldn't make sence to make a video for FLY TV. More videos more money.

    Hey guys, I'm not familiar with fish in Sweden, just wondering what that fish could have been besides a cod that you lost? Do you have White Sea bass there?

    • @elliotprsn2288
      @elliotprsn2288 7 років тому

      CoLbEeBrYaN late answer, but rather late than never. I live near and fish where they were, there are also different spiecies of flatfish and sea trout, also mackerel and herring. But most likely it was a sea trout

    • @steffanjensen282
      @steffanjensen282 5 років тому

      ElliotPRSN could have been, but most likely it was a very big cod!

    On a lot of these shows they are using stripping guards that look to be made of neoprene. Where do they get them from? The most brand in the states makes their's out of lycra.
