i have done a fair bit of cod on fly from the bank, in a hole say 100 m long there might be two fish in the 100 meters you have to find them , cast parralell to the shore up and down , a lot of fish hog the bank so if the fly is stripped back 1 m from the shore, you can do this with top fly or sinking , keep moving and you will find them ,they are very moody fish , if there is a thunderstorm coming up over the horizion you are on to a good time
Fantastic video. I have no idea how you can pedal and steer the kayak whilst fly casting and strip setting at all those weird angles. Well done, you make it look easy.
Some of the fly stuff still messes me up but a lot of the kayak control became second nature over summer. I was fortunate enough to spend a couple days a week fishing for them for the majority of summer and autumn
You're pretty accurate with the fly rod casting... a bit different from the old baitcaster. If you do another video like this can you show the setup, including the "flies" which you use for surface and sub-surface? I reckon Trout Cod are much more aggressive than Murray Cod, for some reason?
Thanks mate, won't be another video like this for quite some time. My outfit is a sage bass II Largemouth bass and the floating line is the line made for this rod. The sinking line I use is a scientific anglers sonar titan intermediate tip. The flies I'm using are from BWC flies, the popper here is a new england fishing boof frog and the subsurface is one that isn't tied anymore
So far I still find pretty much everything easier on BC gear but I have noticed that the takes on fly are usually just them trying to suck the fly in as against completely smashing it. Might work well on more pressured fish too idk. I just love that feeling of direct contact through the line fighting them
OMG u posted early, while I was in the movies with my niece and nephew watching that rubbish dinosaur movie. My phone was lighting up from my mates teasing me for missing it while kid sitting. Now watching it while they get Maccas. Some epic fly fishing for cod bud, that first one was a stonker. BTW my niece says u need a haircut coz u look like a Bogan, her new favorite word. What was that surface u were using and the floating line.
*had the same net. I managed to lose one off the back of the yak this season. No idea when it came off, turned around to grab it to net one and it wasn't there. Will be getting the same again because I haven't found anything else as good for the fish

Good session legend! Definitely a challenge the old fly rod. 🤙🏻
Thanks ate, definitely adds another element to it all
Awesome mate!! Would be a great challenge to get them on fly, for me would be a challenge to cast a fly rod hahaha.
Thanks mate, the fly rod definitely adds to the challenge but the direct feel through the line is incredible too
Fly fishing off a kayak… mad skills.
Great vid
Thanks mate, took a bit of practice to sort out casting off the yak

@@HawkesyFishing Many thanks for your reply. Looking forward to more of your videos.
Nice sesh there Alex, how do you rate the take on fly vs regular cod gear off the top? Pros/Cons?

Epic vid

great fish...that song gets a bit tired after 10minutes, just saying
Foot in the landing net.
