Love Waynoka, my dad was born and raised there, my grandpa work as dishwasher at the Harvey House when he was young. Then owned a Texaco gas station and finally was a mechanic for the Santa Fe railroad.
loved this video. Spent my summers in woods county in Alva with my Aunt and uncle. We would go down to the dunes. So many memories of this cool little town.
My grandpa owns the shop to the left at the 1:31 mark. He sells gems, rocks, and fossils there. Just visited it the other day. Super quiet town. Love it.
@@TravelwithaWiseguy John, it would be really neat to see a rattlesnake roundup....would make an interesting video. (seeing as you are now a daredevil, lol)
Cool history there in Waynoka. Sand buggies are super fun. Thanks for sharing. Having lived most of my life on the foot hills of the Cascades and now up in the north Okanogan high lands, it always amazes me how flat things are "out east".
Our Puppy Woodrow always barks when the dogs start barking on your video LOL That said, So far this video is my favorite. You did a good job with it. Thank you for the day trip.
The city hall, rail depot and Methodist church are beautiful buildings. What prizes in such a small town.. Great video, including the "you've only rolled over once? Let's keep it that way" Lol
love those kids getting excited about a little UA-cam time lol. you ever go into a cafe in one of these towns and do vid chat with the locals about their life in these small towns?
Yes I’ve done a few of those chats - the one in Loving County, Texas and Monowi, Nebraska has received the best response. Most of the time people don’t want to be filmed, however.
This is a awesome video John! Looks like a nice little town with some good bit of history. I really enjoyed the dune buggy, you guys seem like you were having a great time out there. Nice video!
We have Nebraskans that head down for a go at it once or twice a year.many years the Platte River gets low enough that they run up and down it's channel. It is a sand bottom river, so gives similar effect, just no dunes. The town was a very interesting looking places. Definitely much history. And it looks like many of the downtown buildings have been kept updated. It was great to see it. As always, a very good video of our wonderful towns where so much of our country's history and lifeblood was in the past, and shouldn't be forgotten. With just a little twist thrown in for good measure!
OH my goodness, look at that black vehicle parked along the side of the road. I can't even describe it. Looks like a cross between a car from the 50s with its tail fins, a monster truck and an SUV. Bizarre. I love seeing unique vehicles like that.
WAYNOKA WAS AT ONE TIME A SANTA FE SHOP TOWN AND A CREW CHANGE POINT BACK IN THE 1990s TRAIN CREWS TRIP LENGTHS WERE INCREASED FROM 100 MILES TO 200 MILES, SO CREW CHANGE POINTS WERE CUT BY HALF! ANOTHER RAILROADING THING WAS ORIGINALLY THE TRACK CREWS WERE ORIGINALLY 6 MILES APART, WHICH WERE THE BEGINNINGS OF MANY SMALLER TOWNS! IN THESE SMALL TOWNS THE TRACK WORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES LIVED IN COMPANY SUPPLIED HOUSING. AS TRACK MATERIALS IMPROVED AND HAND WORK WAS SUPPLANTED BY MACHINERY CREATED THE ENDING OF THE 6 MILE MAINTENANCE DISTRICTS, ALONG WITH MANY TINY TOWNS! A GOOD EXAMPLE OF THIS IS AT CLARE KS BETWEEN GARDNER KS AND OLATHE KS! .
I hope you got to show off your karting skills from back in the day! Fun video, looks like my kinda place. The “Waynoka” next to me isn’t nearly as fun unless you want to cruise the lake. Safe travels!
Andy wasn’t going to let me drive it and I understand haha. Would be fun though! Yeah it’s a little different although Lake Waynoka does have sand on the beach 😂
At one time Waynoka had one of the largest ice plants in the United States. They made blocks of ice to ice down the refrigerated box cars. During WW2 German POWS were brought in from the POW camp in Alva to work at the ice plant. Another thing Waynoka use to be famous for was the annual rattlesnake hunt. First weekend after Easter, people would go out and catch diamond backs and sell them at the carnival.
Wow! Looks fun! My guess is that all of strange fast moving and disappearing UFOs, were, yep you guessed it, a bunch of guys flying over sand dunes in the dark. LOL.
You should have toured the Harvey House at the train depot. The history of the Harvey girls is fascinating. Plus, the best German restaurant is in town.
They have guards when you enter and they check to make sure you and your vehicle are fit to drive. Everyone seemed like they knew what they were doing.

I live in Waynoka and after reading all the comments it filled me with joy seeing the love for my little town. God bless you all
That’s great to hear 😊

My cousin out of Oregon is in Waynoka. They are at big UTV take over this weekend. They are there every year. Looks like loads of fun!
Nice! Yeah it’s definitely a lot of fun in that area. Beautiful area of Oklahoma too!
I've been to Little Sahara. The rich kids at my school bragged about going to Cancun for spring break, we loaded the bikes in truck and went Waynoka!
Fun video and kudos for the “Fletch” reference. “That your whole hand Doc? Mooon River”!
😂😂😂
Hi john thanks for the tour such a beautiful town . Cheers mate🇦🇺
Thanks Peter! I had a lot of fun with this one obviously 😊
What an interesting town.... I love it when you travel in Oklahoma, my family was from McCurtain, OK, so maybe you'll travel there some day...
Thank you! I’ve got some more Oklahoma videos on the horizon as well!
WooooHoooo what a trip !!!! You guys are having way too much fun. Awesome video, thanks for letting us share a little bit of your excitement.
Thanks! It was a blast!
If you like those dunes you should come out here to the Christmas Valley Dunes! Thanks for taking us on a fun ride!
Went there as a kid. There was a small zoo there with a camel. Also the day we were there they had a rattlesnake roundup, a memorable experience.
Oh wow that’s interesting! I guess a camel would make sense in the dunes!
@@TravelwithaWiseguy John, it would be really neat to see a rattlesnake roundup....would make an interesting video. (seeing as you are now a daredevil, lol)
@@CindyinArizona Haha sounds interesting but I wouldn't get too close! :)
COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I lived in the panhandle of Oklahoma for two years back in 1965 but never heard about this place.
Definitely worth a trip if you’re ever in the area again!
Cool history there in Waynoka. Sand buggies are super fun. Thanks for sharing.

Love that! Thanks again - it was a lot of fun!
This looked like so much fun! I'm glad you got to experience some fun in Oklahoma. Thanks for taking us along. Stay safe and GOD bless
It was a lot of fun! Nice to mix it up a little!
Excitement plus. Neat in daylight it was full impact. Lighting at nite was neat. Impressive. Great video. 😊
Thank you! Very fun day!
I have enjoyed the videos. Wonderful history and beautiful sites to see. Thank you for what you do.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
Riding around in the dunes looked like so much fun!!😊
It was a blast!!
Thanks for taking us on this adventure . Andy trying to make you a real daredevil. Probably not much to there
Haha! I used to be more of a daredevil than I am now, but I did go skydiving a few years back! 😊
There's the dog/s! I was afraid maybe we wouldn't get our twice weekly dose of doggy fun!
😂😂 of course! Hahaha
came here for the ride and left with some history . those wheelies were badass 🤟🤟
Andy is awesome! Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
The city hall, rail depot and Methodist church are beautiful buildings. What prizes in such a small town.. Great video, including the "you've only rolled over once? Let's keep it that way" Lol
Thanks! Yeah you could tell it was much larger at one time and probably very busy. Glad we kept it at one!😂😂

I really love your fun attitude during this.
Thanks! It was easy! 😊
Looks like you were having some serious fun.
Wild and crazy ride. We used to know friends who went to the Oklahoma dunes. What a ride! 🤪
It was! Lucky I had a good pilot with me 😊

Well, we get an idea of what you do concerning your "off time". That looked like fun, be good, be safe !!
Haha thanks! Fun off time 😂
@@TravelwithaWiseguy It looked like a real blast, not kidding.
GOOD TIMES! Woohoo, I'll have to check this place out 😊
Very fun place to explore! Especially if you have a friend with a fast vehicle :)
This was way cool! Loved this one! Not sure I could do the night version tho....I'm a scaredy cat!😂 Nicely done, fun to watch!!
Haha I understand! I felt safe with Andy as my guide! Thank you 😊
Miss going down there for rattlesnake weekend. Nice drone shots.
Thanks!
that drone shot at night looked like you were filming remote control toy cars.
this town could also be the plot for once upon a time in the west.
Yes! And absolutely it could be!

Maybe a Plymouth with homemade fins? Sitting on an F-150 frame? Would like to know more about this Frankencar

I know a lot of Wellington railroaders used to run to Waynoka...now they have to go to Amarillo.

Haha yes it was very intense! Andy was a great driver though and I had full trust in him 😊
I lived there for several years. It’s a nice town.
Agreed!!
At one time Waynoka had one of the largest ice plants in the United States. They made blocks of ice to ice down the refrigerated box cars. Awesome! Thanks for the info. Very cool town to hang out and explore!
My dad loaded the cars with ice when he was in high school
Great little town, not keen on the buggies.... maybe on a bike hell yeah!
I’m sure that would be a blast too!
Dud, what away to end a video. That was great
😂😂 thanks! It was fun!
I sure didn't know all that about Wynoka
Wow! Looks fun! My guess is that all of strange fast moving and disappearing UFOs, were, yep you guessed it, a bunch of guys flying over sand dunes in the dark. LOL.
Haha good hypothesis! :) Thanks and it was a lot of fun!
Speaking of trains, right on time
Nice catch! I didn’t realize it until I was editing. 😊
You should have toured the Harvey House at the train depot. The history of the Harvey girls is fascinating. Plus, the best German restaurant is in town.
Unfortunately the house wasn’t open when I got there late.
Yeah bro!!
Woohoo 🙌🏼
If you enjoyed the Waynoka Dunes you should go to Monahans Sandhills State Park. It probably wouldn't fit in any of your videos, but just to see it.
I think I’ve heard about it - I’m always intrigued by places like this. Especially when it’s so different from the places surrounding.
I'm surprised you're allowed to do that in the dark
They have guards when you enter and they check to make sure you and your vehicle are fit to drive. Everyone seemed like they knew what they were doing.
I don’t live to far from there go to the rattlesnake hunt every year.
A buggy with suspension is so much more enjoyable.. although not as old school and cool..
Who is the artist making the soundtrack?? Is it you playing?
I list the music in the video description - this one had Dan Lebowitz and Silent Partner - both are free to use on UA-cam. Definitely not me playing!
Can you pay for buggy rides or do you have to know somebody/have one yourself to experience that?
It’s kind of both. Andy had his own, but you can rent vehicles. I’ve heard it’s expensive though.
We're you 😱 scared.....I was
Haha not too scared but it was definitely exciting!
