I love the old Sinclair Service Station. My grandfather owned a Deep Rock Station on 71st Street in Tulsa for around 20 years. It is sad that there are so few left, when you still see a mom and pop service station, it is usually in a small town. I like what the brother said about the secret to his business -- suit up and show up -- that is the key to success.
That sinclair service station in Perry helped me out one time when I got lost ran out of gas and my phone died, The owner lady gave me free gas and directions back to where I came from which was Stillwater (The town over bout 30 miles), Til this day over 10 years later I still pay it forward to help others because of the kindness I was shown there. Perry is also a wonderful town full of nice folks!
This is one of your best videos John! I love old service stations like this, it's something I wished more cities & towns had these days. There's so much history in old stations like this, no wonder you had to make a separate video. Thank you & the Kemnitz family for the tour.
Wow. What amazing story on the gas station! Awesome video as always. Traveling my Route 66 trip it was a must to check out all the old gas stations but nothing compares to one that has kept it going all through the years.
Brent has told me for years about the station, so it was great to be able to tell others their story too! Like you I also check out those stations - especially on RT66!
Brent Kimnitz was a coach at WSU since I was a kid going to Shocker baseball games, back in the day when that baseball team was still a national championship contender every year. Thrilling teams. He is a familiar name to me for sure. Wish they could get back to that level again.
@@TravelwithaWiseguy I'll be honest with you I was pretty mad when the school fired Gene Stephenson. It was right after the team had just made the NCAA Tournament again. They haven't been there since. Stephenson deserved better than that.
Incredible footage! Such a cool town with a lot of history. I, of course, love the service station as my Dad owned and operated one in SE Missouri! I had to chuckle about 91 year old Mrs. Kemnitz and her Thunderbird convertible! They're BOTH beautiful!! Thank you for such a great video!
Now that's a marvelous place, very clean and well maintained, except for the old baseball stadium, they should restore it. Back in the 80s I hauled Cattle into Perry ,lots of calves to go out to pasture. Thanks for Sharing, Love that gas station. Years ago my uncle was a Phillips 66 jober in Clearwater, Kansas.
Wonderful place. Thank you for the effort you put into your videos. Prime example of family based businesses that support the community. Thank you again.
Another great video! Congratulations on 15.6 thousand subscribers, you truly deserve 10 times more! Hearing that bell ding at the service station brought back memories. We had an old service station in Sperry where I grew up. I think The Outsiders movie used it. My brother and I delighted in stepping on the hose to make it ding, I'm sure we weren't the only kids that did that- GOD bless the attendant lol. Thanks for showcasing a great town with great folks, great history and great memories. Enjoyed this and the bonus video. Stay cool, stay safe and GOD bless
Thank you! I never would’ve imagine that many people would follow/subscribe 😊 Wow that’s awesome about The Outsiders - classic movie! The bell dinging was great 😂😂
The Yankee Dime Merchantile is located in Perry, an amazing antiques store. I spent a day in Perry back in February. Was drawn to go there because it was listed as one of the top10 "nicest towns under 5000 to live in." Watching your video makes me want to go back and visit again! Thank you!
Great video! What a cool town! Love all the history stored there! Wish the gas stations were still like that today! I miss them! Love that old ballpark stadium! Beautiful! Def going to look at the xtra footage!
Awesome video, one of your best !!! Always a special treat when you can have tours and information from the local celebrities. I think I knew that Timothy was arrested there but I had forgotten about it. Congratulations to Brent and his amazing success, and also to his brother for the success at the station. You don't see that kind of service anymore, however we do have a little station here in Willow that is like that. Will pump your gas, wash your windshield, check your tire pressure, etc. Having little full service stations like that is a lost art. Excellent video, thanks for sharing a little bit of Perry, OK with us.
As someone who has lived in this wonderful town for almost 4 years I can confirm that this is a very special place, my family and I moved here on 7/21/2021. That may not be very long but it’s long enough to confirm this is an awesome town! The library is gorgeous, the town is gorgeous and Jim Franklin is awesome! Jim Franklin makes statues for the town, the one in front of the library was made by him and so was the Danny hodge one! Me, my aunt and my siblings met Jim Franklin in 2023 he’s a super nice guy! All the people in Perry are awesome! If you ever visit Perry make sure you visit Jim Franklin!!
I was apart of the Cherokee Strip parade for many years during my youth. I started my wrestling career at 5 yrs old in Perry (shot out coach Edward). I took my highschool wrestling team picture in front of that Sinclair with 2 motorcycles. I went to jail in the same courthouse Timothy McVay was in (maybe the same cell😊). I was homecoming football king in that small town. I wasn't born there but definitely raised. The Wrestling Capital of the World.
Very few towns in Northern Oklahoma or Southern Kansas have a town square, but Perry does and may I say---it is one of the most beautiful town squares in the Heartland!
@impalaman9707 You seem argumentative or defensive. I merely stated a fact related to your comment. Five is very few indeed. Town squares are rare in Oklahoma.
When his brother said when that gas station opened my eyes popped! It opened the day my mother was born! I had to stop the video and go to tell her. I said we need to take a trip and see Perry, Oklahoma! Have her stand in front of the gas station and take her picture.
It's a cute little town I've stayed at the comfort inn a couple of times while traveling in Oklahoma 😊 great history there !! My dad grew up there partially and nowata ok .
My grandfather was from Gotebo OK, he used the word "traded," in California we used "do business." Only those of my vintage and older may recognize the bell of the cars running over the hose to signal their arrival. As always...
Nice video. Loved the Sinclair station...my Dad ran a Deep Rock station in Ada OK when I was a kid. The Mom and Pop businesses like that are only successful if they put in LOTS of hours.
Pretty nice to get a local and and his brother to star in the video. Your co worker has had an amazing career. Now get out there and find some animals. please
When I was a small boy we lived 3.5 miles south of the Sedgwick/ Sumner county line on us 81. In the early 50s my parents car got stolen. Dad reported it to the Sumner county sheriff's office and the insurance company. They found the car in Oklahoma. The insurance company paid for a bus ticket and one meal in a cafe. Dad rode the bus to Perry Oklahoma county maintenance yard. A sheriff's officer told dad I checked the oil , put gas in it I drove back to yard. It seemed to run fine. Mom and dad were told it's good you slept through it. The thieves committed armed robbery in Wichita.
What a great history lesson. Kudos to Officer Charles Hanger for pulling Timothy Mc Veigh over with an expired license plate. The Sinclair station opened exactly 11 years after Route 66 came into existence.
Oh, Perry's place in history did involve the OKC bombing. I forgot that is where he was captured. And I just went to that OKC museum last year, too. duh. I knew I'd kick myself
No, "it's not the best video", but it is good. You've got some good friends there. Thanks for sharing their story. Being old enough to have worked in gas stations like that one, it brought back good memories.

Brent Kemnitz ... Wow what a career full of success! Big cheers to him for a life well lived.
Their school has a great band! I go to a larger school than them but it's always impressive how well they do on the field at marching contests
Their band is great!
Great job, loved the family dynamic of the brothers and the mom. Small town life is a blessing 😀
She was great! Thank you!
Man, i love this video. What precious people with a special story.

I lived in Perry for a few years. My wife and I both love that town. It was a wonderful place to live. We miss it.
Absolutely one of your best videos! Nothing like small home towns with a history which lives on without fading into obscurity. 🏆
Thank you! Great to see them still successful to this day!

Perry is so nostalgic.. I LOVE IT!! Thanks for another awesome video John. 😊

Thanks! Probably not too far for you to stop and and check out sometime - stop at the gas station and meet Craig!
What a beautiful town! Thank you for doing such a great job! So glad the Kemnitz brothers were able to show you around!
My pleasure! It was a lot of fun!
Beautiful huh, go there your self and take a look around. Just a trashy old town. they just showed the nice parts of perry.

I think you may need to cover Ditch Witch too since it started here in Perry.
I thought about it but there was so much I had filmed there. Ditch Witch is a great story too!
