Excellent review! I'm a long time MKC collector, have this book, and appreciate you presenting it in such a beautiful video. I'm saving to watch again and again. I've been asked to do a presentation on my collection of MKC to my small group of friends that belong to a group called CAMEO - Collecting Antiques and Memorabilia and Educating Ourselves. We often have presentations on art work, ceramic collections, etc. It's not limited to actual antiques. I'd love to share this video for as part of my presentation. Thank you for sharing this review!
That would be great. The concept for CAMEO is inspiring. The motivation behind a persons collections has always fascinated me, as people sometimes collect the most unusual items. My grandfather collected antique wooden airplane propellers and golf clubs, along with hand carved pipes. My grandmother collected Lalique perfume bottles and coins with birds on them. I think they passed the desire to collect on to me. I can't imagine not collecting.
@@thetartantopiary I agree! Personal collections have a story to tell. It's fascinating. I've been a collector of things since childhood. I try to curate my collections, share with others, and enjoy what I have. Memories are represented in many items. Today's generation is more into trends, but I'm encouraged with the renewed interest in needlepoint as a hobby and thrifting as a way to afford beautiful things of the past. Thanks again for this excellent review. You are most talented!
Its very sad that Richard and Victoria can't profit from their own name or designs! They were stolen by corporate sharks who even hire Victoria imitators. What an evil thing to celebrate their works while they are penniless.Does the book mention this?
What a delightful video! There is indeed something about the McKenzie-Childs patterns that bring out the child in me! And I love the brass thistle that you added to the one picture frame---such a classy touch to make it personal! Thank You for adding joy to my day!
Love MC... Their Beautiful hand painted furniture and decor treasures were awesome one or two of a kind in the 80's and early 90's. After they went bankrupt, and American purchased them, their handpainted trademark pieces began being manufactured in China! So, those of you who are avid MC conasures... make sure you look for Vintage pieces! Good Luck... the added bonus of purchasing MC, now includes, the thrill of the hunt!!!
I remember the first time I saw the painted terracotta ball knobs. I purchased 12 for a chest in my daughters first bedroom. They delighted me in every way.
Mary, I am so glad you got the book! I bought mine with the book box and I reckon it supports Mackenzie-Childs because I paid more than you did! I love the frames you made, especially the gold embellished frame. I could put a picture of me in a tartan dress I wore at 15 in that kind of frame, so I will be looking for the thistle! What you add to reviews is so rich in a personal touch, that I experienced from my Mom over and over again because she was an avid textile artist, and cooked well and sewed that tartan dress I wore. My favorite Mackenzie Childs pattern is Royal (Blue) Court. They keep adding to new patterns and styles every year. My next favorite is Queen Bee. I love the designed and made in America pieces. I have been collecting Mackenzie-Childs for more than 5 years. I haven't become tired of it, so I reckon I will keep collecting once in a while! Thank you for such a beautiful review of a book that is delightful.
What a sweet picture that must be and what a great memory and tribute to your mom. I have a photograph of my daughter in her Scottish Dance attire that would also be nice for that frame. You might enjoy watching Victoria MacKenzie Child's UA-cam channel.
@@thetartantopiary I do watch Victoria on UA-cam! I also watch one inspired vlog “Bold and Graceful” painter who loves checkerboard. I can name 6 artists who have made checkerboard designs too. Suzy Toronto is one.
@@thetartantopiary I did until she became political in one vlog. I have known many people with ideological differences who were not upsetting. Lack of ethics always upsets me in politics, religion and life., so I quit watching Victoria. She has my Great Grandmothers name, so I was sad.
Mary another fabulous video and book review! I love MKC their style brings me such joy. I purchased a package of the Courtly Check paper napkins as I plan on creating a few découpage pieces with them. I will certainly rewatch your video several times for inspiration. Thank you 🙏 ❤️!!
What we cannot imagine, though crafty we may be, we can appreciate and enjoy in others' creations like those of MKC. I have picked up my counted cross stitch hobby after a long hiatus. Your frames were lovely gifts and show how embellishments can enhance the simplest of items. Isn't it fun to see how we can make special things from a few basics.
Very cool, I've never been to the NY shop. The Neiman Marcus in Dallas had a great MacKenzie-Childs section in their store the last time I was there. It was a large corner of the store with beautiful displays of furniture, accessories and kitchenware.
Not in this book. They sold the company and this book was written after the sale. Victoria does have a UA-cam channel you may enjoy- www.youtube.com/@victoriamackenzie-childs7215
Mary, I enjoy your videos very much. I wold like to recommend a book you may want to review. It is titled “Beatrix Farrand, Garden Artist, Landscape Architect,” by Judith B. Tankard, Copyright 2022, The Monacelli Press. She was a niece of Edith Wharton and the first female landscape architect in the U.S. I learned of her only through a documentary I saw. That is when I began looking for a book to learn more. It is a beautiful book.
The Edith Wharton connection fascinates me. I've heard of Judith Tankard, but know very little. I will definitely look into this book, thank you for suggesting it.
I'll simply say this with respect to MKC... a little goes a very very long way. That being said, as a man, I can appreciate why some women like it (it's both eye-catching and theatrical), but I would never bring any of it into my own home. If I did, I'd have to turn in my man-card, and no man would ever do that willingly. Cheers!

@@thetartantopiaryIm wondering how many people think profiting off their designs is ok because they had to file for bankruptcy? Its obvious they were tricked into signing over their company if you watch their channel. I too won't buy anything from this company. Victoria should not have been pushed out. And I stop buying American girl dolls too. More people should stand up and not support this behavior. @@AuntBee185
