@@thetartantopiary Oh Mary, you do provide us a welcome respite for sure. I look forward to your beautiful videos every single week. I collect Shelley China and use my grandmothers “ Indian Tree” by Johnson Brothers for everyday use. Happy Mother’s Day and thank you. 💕💕💕💕
In the early 1980’s I bought a very thick Chinese patterned rug in blue, pink and beige. It is heavily carved and I treasure it despite it having gone out of style which I totally ignored. Hurrah for pretty and those colors coming back (which I also ignored) my bedroom is pale blue Toile, white Métalas bedspread with chintz baby pillows I’ve had for 40 years. Blue and white plates on the wall…. pretty should always be in style, it makes you smile.
I feel the same way. I had an interior designer tell me that I should "get rid of" the ribbon and bows above two of my paintings (Mario Buatta style). I never did, and Mario didn't either! After Mario Buatta's death in 2018, Christopher Spitzmiller bought several of Mario's paintings at auction and has continued to display them with the bows and ribbons!
Mary I just love the different ring and love looking at the different ones and as you close the book and lay your hand on the book like laying it to rest it’s beautiful and peaceful. Thank you for such beautiful tours, so relaxing.
What a lovely book. I love the history of your plate collection. I have such a weakness for pretty dishes. I would love to have a whole room dedicated to just pretty plates!
Thanks for the reminder of my Laura Ashley bedroom that I loved so much. I had the same entire bedding set, wallpaper and border that extended to my bathroom where I had the matching towels. The memories have made me happy.
I collected vintage green and white transferware china for a number of years…the number and the beauty of the patterns was intoxicating…I finally decided to stop, as to continue would have been to cross over from collecting to hoarding 😬. (It is very true that there can be too much of a good thing, even a beautiful good thing.) But I will always cherish my ravishing green and white china. Thank you, Mary - I love your channel.

Yay for the return of traditional, pretty design! I completely ignored the 20 years of the ugly MCM design trend, except for simplifying layered 80s window coverings and bringing in a few more modern paintings. My home, a Victorian cottage, would look ridiculous with modern decor and I believe that compatibility with a building’s architecture is important.
I admire the way the Victorians seemed to want to make even the simplest objects and the humblest structures beautiful by embellishing them with details that were attractive to the eye. While of course anything can be overdone, to my mind the Victorian impulse to embellish is more nourishing to the soul than the modernist impulse to minimize and pare down.
