Redken freehand with a half scoop of flash lift mixed in kicks up your result for a balyage lightener. No foil or saran wrap necessary. If you're worried about bleeding between sections, placing cotton in between subsections takes care of that.

I love this video! Thanks for the advice, I thought I was going crazy trying to follow this whole balayage trend (actual freehand). But I love foiling so much, I feel like the results are so much more consistent that way and I feel more in control. ♡

I know-most colorists won't even answer question or give tips minus important parts.SOme of us have to do our own hair.

Just discovered your videos! I'm from LB, but moved to phx a few years ago and now do hair in scottsdale. Love how well you explain everything. Thank you for that!! Next time I'm home I'll have to check out your salon!

great tips! thank you!! I always stress about how to do someone's color step by step. and I'll stress about how it needs to be done before I see my client. but I have experienced it is much better for me to just go with the flow and place the color the way the hair is laying. :) one section at a time! brilliant!

So helpful. I agree i have tried so many lighteners for balayage and feel like without foils it rarely gets light enough. I will try your technique

you are doing real balayage lol It has become a catch all phrase for customized hand painted highlights these days with a lot of overlap and customization that we haven't seen before which i love. Nice work :-)

I like to do different size highlights and different stopping points up the hair shaft. you can create beautiful hair if you mix everything.

You really shouldn’t put anything in your mouth that will be used on clients. Sorry as a stylist that really popped out at me. Otherwise great work!
