    I’m happy to hear that about the netting. I’ve been on the fence about it, going from less than 100 plants last year to thousands this year. This is giving me the confidence to skip it. Thank you!

    I tried lisianthus (plants purchased online) for the first time this summer and they did great, even in our heat (zone 7B, north MS). They have developed new basal growth, so I am hoping they might even survive the winter for me. Everyone who visited my garden wanted to know what that flower was!

      Struggled for 3 months to start the lisianthus seeds but found out it was the grow light with 3 branch lights off amazon I was using. Needed a t8 light bulb or the small plastic green house kit with led light I'm using now on a heat mat. Got sprouts in under 10 days,need to mist with a spray bottle at least once a day. Good luck,hope this helps!

    I'm interested to try your method on our flower farm in Upstate NY zone 5b. I have a few questions, what group do you purchase to get an early harvest? I usually plant my lis. in early May. and I would love to get blooms from mid-June-November. What group of plugs do you get for the late planting in June? I was reading groups 3 and 4 do better in warm summer months and 1 or 2 are used in winter production in the greenhouse. I don't think many people do succession planting for lisianthus. I also pinch back half of mine for a staggered harvest. Thanks.

      @@PepperHarrow *It dawned on me that you may be too busy to read this long story! Maybe someone will enjoy it.* So, can I tell you a story? THIRTY ++ years ago, we were stationed in Ft. Hood, TX. I had been drooling over pictures and descriptions of lisianthus for years, in the Park seed catalog. Finally planted some seeds, babied them, kept them covered with gauze and misted frequently during transplant, and they were so magnificent. One day driving kids to a post recreation area, I turned the corner -- and there were blue lisianthus as far as the eye could see, all wild. After all my babying! I learned later that they were native, also called "prairie gentian." Comeuppance, but a happy one!

    Thanks, Jen. If I understand correctly, you plant out the tiny plugs without potting up and growing on in a greenhouse. Is that right? It would be great to save that step (especially with as many as you are growing), but they are so teeny when they come in the plug trays. Thanks for the clarification or explanation of how large they are when you put them out.

    This was a VERY HELPFUL video on growing and harvesting Lizzies! What is your spacing when you plant? I heard Steve and Gretel Adams say that they plant 2 Lizzie plugs per hole for stem length and weed control. I plan on trying that next year with at least some of mine. I have been growing Lizzies for years, but the last couple years I lost some to weeds even WITH landscape fabric. Not fun! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and experience!--Sarah

    Hi! My field grown lisianthus, particularly the dark purples, get spots on them from rain. Do you find that as well?

    • @PepperHarrow
      @PepperHarrow  3 роки тому

      Most of the spotting we see is usually from big damage. We get pretty dry around lisi harvest time so we don’t have to worry too much about rain. But if we do see a rain coming and they’re ready to harvest, we get them harvested out before the rain comes in. If they’re still immature, we don’t find rain to damage them before bloom.
