Understanding Nomadland (2020) | What is a Good Life?

What is a good life?
How do you go about and define such a thing, because a good life can vary between each individual.
It could be about getting your dream job, finding a partner, or to be rich and famous.
A good life depends on everyone’s circumstances.
But there does seem to be a conventional look at a good life. That one where it seems a majority of people are compared too.
The nuclear family.
You marry your childhood sweetheart, have two beautiful children - preferably a boy and a girl, you have a stable job and live in your own house.
That view of a good life has dramatically changed because life has moved on from that era.
Houses are getting more expensive, jobs are getting harder to get, or in some cases just don’t pay enough.
So that look at the ideal life has gone because that has now become unattainable.
Because of that, the goal posts have moved and a good life seems to be to just survive. Like I said in my previous video.
Not suffering nor thriving, just surviving.
But that in itself is still difficult to achieve. That way of living makes sense to me, someone who lives in the UK.
Because here, I don’t need to worry about anything else. I just have to stay in my lane and I hope for the best.
But in other countries, just surviving is a struggle. What is a good life to someone in Afghanistan right now?
Is it to leave the country or to just keep their heads down and do as they are told. To literally survive.
What is a good life is a question that cannot be answered by one person because everyone’s circumstances will dictate their answer.
And that is what 2021’s Nomadland represents to me.
