- Exploring an old mine in the Yukon Copper Belt for Bornite, Epidote, Pyrite and other cool minerals. Collecting at this sites was soooo easy. Nice specimens are everywhere.
Was collecting with Paul from the Whitehorse Rock Shop. Here is his Facebook Link:

So many minerals and sadly so little room for them. Those blues and purples make my heart go pitter pat! Thanks for taking us along.
There is always next time. ;-)
Oh my goodness! Those rocks are beautiful. Ive never seen purple and blue like that in a rock and now I want it.
If u would like to rockhound north carolina ill be glad to bring you on a prospecting trip
I think every rock you touch is a good one !!! Wish I had the touch. Everything I touch turns to Limestone...lol
Limestone can be good rock for crystals. Just look for vugs
Dude! That's some beautiful stones right there, Nice! I like, you like? Yes I do....lol but so beautiful, I like the way they glessing in the sun.
I always see your video here in Brazil, congratulations
Love my Brazil friends.
Another awesome video! You're finding some really great stuff! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for dropping by. It was fun to visit there, but it would have been nice if I had a way to bring home some of the larger rocks. ;-)
@@meMiner no kidding! Lots of man power or equipment might help!
I get mouth watering of your beautiful gold panes.
Likão in the Brasil
Thanks my good friend.
Nice vid...rock beauty!!
Thanks
2:00 - I see some IRONDITE sticking up out of the pile - it looks nearly pure and I'm marveling at its extruded structure. There must be some granite dies buried beneath that pile. :) LOL
You had me. I actually tried to look up irondite. LOL
This spot is on the edge of a dump so irondite, rubberite and glassite in quantity amongst the waste rock. Good thing no black bearite on this trip.
@@meMiner Glad you liked my joke - keep up your fine work. I enjoy your channel.
@@meMiner Too old for plasticite?
Awesome video!! Cheers from a Portuguese rockhound!
Thanks Hugo
I love your videos it wouldn't hurt my feelings if you sent me some thumbnail s of some Crystal's for my granddaughter she loves rocking.
Beautiful
That boranite is pretty and so is the blue copper stained stuff. Bottle was a cool find too 😀
Where can i find a rock dump like this? I got so excited i almost puked!
This was in the copper belt outside of Whitehorse, Yukon. Don't puke. That might attract bears. ;-)
Drove into Whitehorse back in 2002 on a road trip from Fl to AK.. beautiful indeed.. loved it! Don’t know how much it’s changed over the years, fly it now!. Thanks for the video .. regret not having started chipping away years ago!
That would be a heck of a nice drive. My brother in law worked on the Alaska Highway. On one blast, they exposed a huge vein of copper. There were all disappointed that it wasn't gold. I should have asked him where it was but at the time I was only interested in gold too. Now, it is too late to ask
I want the old miners license plate
It is still there.
Man oh man! Those colours dude! Just astounding! I don’t envy you in having to figure out what to take home!!!!!
Just pretty man! 👌👌👌
Nice relaxing hunt !!!!!! you found some cool piece's
I learned today, we see the purple in some copper mine dumps here as well now O know it is Bornite
Probably bornite or bismuth. Both are very nice to find.
just a tip filming things. put the rock down and move cam closer.helps with focus
thanks
Incredible place! Quite the variety of rocks for a rock hound! Thanks for sharing.
BEAUTIFUL!!!
Cool looking Rock's Bro keep up the great work and Get Those Chrystals 💪😎🔥💯🍺🦅
You were the first comment. ;-)
How much rock could a me miner chuck...If a me miner could chuck rock.👍👍😎
meminer would chuck, all the rock he could chuck and meminer does like to chuck rock.
@@meMiner 🤣
meMiner, while our love for rock hounding is equal, but our knowledge isn’t even close.
I both live and learn trough your channel. Thank you.
I am still learning too Gene.
Awesome beautiful rocks awesome stones awesome opportunity thank you
Great video minus the music. Scrap the music it does not enhance the video rather makes you want to turn the vol down but then we can't hear you when you talk. All you need is nature and your cool voice...
thanks for the feedback
Now those are some rocks Charlie Brown would love to get at Halloween!
I've always wanted to go to the Yukon. Lucky you. I hope you brought back lots of bornite!
What were they originally mining at this site, gold I would presume.
Copper. But there is some gold
Nice. I think many humans are "auto" attracted to the the magnificent shades of Cu minerals in oxidation. I very much like the pink Cobalt matrices you have up there. Don't see that around here.
Another observation. You love what is rare in your area. ;-)
Fantastic finds. I love your videos and please keep them coming.............
We just got snow and it is -18 where I am going tomorrow. The videos will slow down a little bit soon. ;-)
That Wollastonite is beautiful . Jealous !
A Christmas gift for Uli? It would look good on your shelf and I am sure you would immediately put it under UV, which I have not done yet.
meMiner You should . Some of them are fluorescence . Let me know.
C,'mon Greig, you know the copper staining is Malachite, not Marcasite!! Hope you managed to bring some specimens home??
oops, I said it again
@@meMiner LOL!! I knew what you meant!
@@CoinandRelicOntario I said on another video, that I am still working on audit vs adit. Which reminds me. I am heading to Cobalt tomorrow for a day and drop off my camper at indoor storage. Too much snow for detecting, but I might try getting into an adit.
The planet is full of Rocks, why am I so addicted, must be God's same addition, otherwise there wouldn't be so many! Salute to a Good World of answers, Then What happened we've so many Gemstones ?
So many. Which one gets to go home with me. 😁
Thanks for sharing.
WOW!, such an assortment of beautiful minerals
Quite the place. I would definitely go back
That is such a striking blue color, amazing!
agreed
I’d be there all day 😁⛏🤔looks fun 👍✊️✊️
Places to go and people to see. If I had more time...
Some fun hey kid, some fun, thanks again Santa Maria
Thanks Warren
Excuse me sir ... may I ask what you have in your pockets ??? Lol 👍
Something big and heavy. Wanna see?
meMiner lol 😂 Like Charlie Brown ... just rocks sir ✌🏻
Awesome rocks, Awesome colors and crystals, Thank you Greg.
It was a fun place to visit. Next time I will spend more time with a hammer.
@@meMiner 👍🍻
I don’t think I could do that
It hurts me to see you drop such beautiful rocks
Hopefully, next trip I will drive rather than fly. Easier to take some extra weight.
You can always send yourself stuff in the mail, and then you can take as much as you want(within reason)!
Can/will you tumble any of them? If so, I'd love to see it!
It must have broke your heart knowing you could only bring so much or so little back home!
Always difficult. But there is always next time ...
Man you sure get around. I imagine it was very difficult to decide on which samples to take. I almost felt sorry for you. ALMOST! Speaking of feeling like a kid in a candy store, I took my daughter to a regional gem and mineral show yesterday for her birthday. We escaped with "aboot" 30 samples for just under 2 bills. Enjoyed your vid as always.
Nice birthday trip!
Very good
Thanks much
Thanks for the videos. I have wanted to do rock tumbling since I was a preteen. Your videos have pushed me over the edge. The wife and I are finally going this. Thanks for the encouragement. We will be uploading to youtube as well so we can track our progress. Successes & fails, what we did right or wrong, etc. without the risk of losing everything to a hard drive failure. I think this is something I can get into for a long time. Thanks again for that push.
Good luck with your projects.
Wow sulfide city there.. very cool place to poke around.
As Paul said when we were leaving "So many rocks, so little time". A very interesting place.
@@meMiner That Wollastonite with the Bornite you grabbed was a really cool piece!!!
Oh I could see that wow
Beautiful Rock, I like it ❤
road trip both ways next time?
I considered it. 70 hour drive. Longer because there are so many places I would stop. Known places plus 100 km/hr prospecting. ;-)
so, I've recently got some good gold panning equipment, I was going to get a sluesbox next but I'm pretty sure I'm getting a rock tumbler now lol. I can't stand by letting so many cool rocks go uncollected and unpolished lol. One day I'll be bold enough to get a metal detector, but I need to find some cool stuff before I can justify that kinda spending.
Depending on where you prospect, river sluices may not be allowed or you need to own the claim to do anything but pan. My advice is to forget about sluicing until you have tested/found a good spot with a pan. That might save you some coin for now. ;-)
Great to know! That sounds like the plan! Thanks again.
Very good mr miner
Thanks for taking the time to tell us the names of the minerals .
I could spend a week here 😍
me2 (if I could carry more)
Mr.MeMiner your in with the rock and the rocks are good!!!; )
Fantastic rock hound Video!!!
Thanks!
What’s your favorite stone or crystal ?
Probably ruby
Sweet samples! I really love the sound of the rocks tumbling down hill.. the Yukon looks amazing.. thanks for the education as always.. peace!
I think I have finally talked my wife into a visit there. Next step on my long term plan is to buy some property. I love it. She reads all the comments, so I am probably in trouble now for being so manipulative. ;-)
Sweet! Yukon ho! 😇. Show us mo!
cool love your vids
The music is from iMusic and UA-cam Studio. Typically, the short ones are iMovie
You Like? I like!! lovely specimens mate
It was fun. I'd go back there in a heartbeat
SIR WHY DINT YOU MOVE THERE. ITS AMAZING 😉
I still have a job back in Ontario.
Awesome man there was sure some sweet looking samples u got some beauties must have been hard to be able to take only so much. Thank u
I could have happily filled a pickup truck.
I think I remember you saying one of your other videos that pyrite is brittle and gold will dent is that true
Yep. One quick test is try to scratch with a pin or good knife.
Thank you so much for taking us along. Beautiful pieces you found!
You are so welcome!
I think you gave me the interest for a new hobby! Thank you for your videos!
Thanks Chantal
The Nevada desert is also a great place to look for interesting rocks and no bears no trees to cover the ground
nice bottle too, you keep?
I left it there.
Amazing colors! Too too many samples! I borrowed one of your sayings (You like, I like) and I try to sound like you me miner... lol thanks for another great video
Thank you for showing us quality in your "take home" rocks and allowing us to see your discriminating efforts. Great education pricess for us.
Also you need to drive back and fill your boot (trunk). Some nice pieces there.
Only a 70 hour drive. Maybe next year
@@meMiner I grumble about driving 4 hours from one place to another in the uk. It's easy to forget how huge the American continent is. At least the scenery is nice. I spent some time over there 4 years ago and it was breath taking driving from state to state.
@@craigdickinson8247 And Canada is even nicer. ;-)
Some beautiful bornite there. You know, you are going to cost me a fortune when I see my rock guy Thanksgiving weekend (U.S. one). I have been making a list from your videos of things I want to look for. I will have to practise a lot of self control.
Or you have to go collecting yourself. ;-)
@@meMiner I am not as lucky as you. I don't have any where descent here to go hunting. I can find fossils, iron pyrite and arrow heads and that is about it. Some quartz and granite but that is a dime a dozen stuff. If I go over to the Mississippi, I can find some geodes but that is about it.
@@mamasgonecreating1967 I have to visit. I love geodes. ;-)
@@meMiner wish I could afford to come to Canada. I would bring you some as payment for showing me where to hunt for some of your treasures.
@@mamasgonecreating1967 Very few of my spots are secret. Canada would welcome you
Yes, many leverites
And some pocketites
@@meMiner haha, yes!
@@meMiner Oh, that's a good one!
Interesting I know that mineral as peacock ore it beautiful stuff
No shortage of samples to choose from , looks like you did well.
It was fun. Are you the Johnny from PA that likes long drives spring and fall?
@@meMiner Nope , still the wrong Johnny, but i sure did love long road trips seeing our beautiful country.
What pretty rocks!
Minerals I have never heard of before. Thanks for showing us.
I would be a little freaked out buy the thoughts of bears being close by. Yikes!
The pyrite would be hard to tell apart from gold if they are both heavy eh?
I have a friend who lived there up until last spring, now she lives 5 hours north of there.
It would be a bit pricey, but you may have been able to mail some of those rocks to yourself?
We are in the bear's backyard, not the other way around. ;-)
Holy cow awesome i like those.
Glad you like them!
Cool lookin stuff there
And so easy to collect. ;-)
Wow, what a great spot.
I'm up here in interior Alaska, I know the pain of every rock is a cool rock. Just limited by what can be carried. Poor subarus a lowrider now. You did a good job being discriminate.
I should post a pic of my wife's Crosstrek. I had imported bull bars for it from Australia. Looked tough. However, she drove it off the road into a forest in Dec. Took down the little trees but a big one stopped her. Shopping now for a new car. ;-)
Amazing again thanks
Your the best by far for any Canadian rockhound to learn from and get excited to go rock hounding especially in Ontario you turned me and my wife into one's
The wife and I have at least 150 to 250 rocks in the house
Not sure what they are. Most of them atleast some we do
I'm so sorry about all of the rocks. LOL
Awsome video man I wish I could prospect and rockhound up where your from its not that bad where I'm from in north carolina but up in Canada it looks much better
I have never been to North Carolina, but the gems and gold in Georgia when I was there was pretty good
4lb woulda been my hammer of choice there. Some nice samples for sure tho!
I would have liked a large sledge, but not on the plane. Heck, I was already overweight with my bags.
Yeah rock collecting.... Or picking up interesting rocks it can be very entertaining for sure! But the best find was that license plate!!! Nice place to get samples of bornite. I always did love the Yukon..... Jack! Drove through there in the 80's on my way to Alaska.
I want to do that drive.
Does anyone think about rockhounding the rock piles from the sluicing machines on the reality series Gold Rush in the Yukon? There has to be some great material they collect while mining the gold.
Or the road they drive with full loads of high grade and spills
nice thanks for the video
Thanks for dropping by
Thank you. Enjoyed !
Thanks Myrtha
I envy your decense - When I would be there, I would carry as much speciments as I could.. 🤣🤣
I can always go back. Only 3 planes and 17 hours travel with stopovers. ;-)
I heard bornite is where a peacock... oh, never mind. Travel safe, stay ‘most awesome’.
The farm up the road has peacocks. If there wasn't fresh snow, I could check your assumption. LOL
the bears are OK just make them a peanutButter sandwich
I’m new to all of this. Just subscribed. I metal detect but I’ve always wanted to do stuff like this. I live in south western America, think I can find some cool rocks out here?
I think you can. There is a learning curve, but it is fun every time you try.
Looks like you had a great day in the Yukon. Be careful of the bears.
Lots of rock to toss if one showed up. ;-)
Thanks for bringing me along on that adventure 💪💪 so awesome
Glad you enjoyed it
Cool vid as always. A place like that makes it tough to decide between the keeperites and leavitnites!
agreed. ;-)
Can epidote grow in kfeldspar? Is it fibrous and waxy and elongated and baryl shaped in crystaline form? Cause i keep finding that . i thought it may have been anipate .epidote or diopside or dioptase or maybe even a yellow tinted dark green baryl...not emerald. It isnt tinted blue enough to be .
I have found epidote mostly in quartz or calcite. No reason it for it not to be in or along the edge of Kspar. However, what you are describing doesn't sound like epidote. Sounds more like Antigorite
@@meMiner i will have to immediately look it up. Ty.
Hey meMiner.... Why is my opalized tiger eye able to be picked up with a magnet?
I have not heard of opal tiger eye, but there is a rare opal called cats eye. It should not be magnetic. SiO2 · nH2O
Your stone could have some iron minerals associated with it. Sometimes, there are jaspers which are sold as the generic name tiger eye.
Was that gold in those rocks ?
There is gold in some of the rocks. My buddy had one that he showed me that definitely had some gold
@@meMiner thanks.
7:06 🔊 what's that sound 😎
Enjoyed the episode
That was a cartoon horn added to the video. Smacked the little rock on a large rock, with no success. Then hit the small rock with a small rock without success. Finally, used a big rock to break the little rock.
