    Thank you so much for taking the time to review our new Homefront™ knife. This is an awesome review and very detailed. Really liked all the information and the different ways or situations as to way you would need to clean the knife. Again awesome review! Thank you again!

      a lot of knife customers do not like Aus 8 Steel not for this price point. for maybe a little more you could have went with s30v or 154. this is a very ingenious design but the quality of Steel used in the blade is not favorable amongst our peers in the night industry

      I agree, with that price tag I expect better grade steel than that!

      Making different blades with better steels and different shapes and finishes would be amazing to sell separately so customers could swap them out to get exactly what they want with the amazing field strip design.

    I bought 2 of these knives from one of my distributors. One of them operated well straight out of the box. The second knife, however, would not disassemble right away. using the supplied torx wrench, I removed the pivot bolt to disassemble the knife, trying to discover if there is a problem. There was nothing obvious, so I reassembled everything. Upon reassembly, I noticed a small amount of sideways play with the blade. To adjust the play, I slightly tightened the pivot bolt. This corrected the sideways play of the blade, but it was back to being unable to be disassembled. Eventually, I decided to test what would happen if I slightly loosened the pivot bolt. This solved the problem of being able to disassemble the knife as it is designed to be, and to reassemble it as well, however, I do find that I have to pinch the blade pivot area a bit to get the lever to fully move into the locked position. Problem solved!

    That's the first knife that I've seen in a looooong time that is a MUST have this week. I'm one of those "SNOBS" when it comes to the steel and I'm not a fan of AUS-8 at all, but that's because of a failed blade back in the 1980's so maybe things have changed since then. I just know I love this folder. Keep up the great work.

    • @reds7vn644
      @reds7vn644 6 років тому

      cwrowe Why? There is ZERO point. WHY do you need to disassemble a folder to clean it? You don't. I've got slipjoints from the 40's and they are in perfect working order and in fact can't be disassembled. I just wash them, dry them and oil them and they work just fine. Same goes for ever frame lock/tactical/locking knife ever I own or ever made. Other than just someone's undying need to Tinker with something is the only reason you would ever have to disassemble a knife to clean it or oil it or anything. I love watching these videos of people who disassemble their knives to clean them and then they put a couple of drops of oil on the bronze washers or bearings or whatever and then talk about how much smoother it feels but what they don't realize is soon as you stick it in your pocket and carry it for a day you automatically got dust and debris right back in it in the viscosity of the oils going to break down it's going to get gunked up so that serve zero purpose. A good friend of mine and knife maker Jim Allen from Three Sisters Forge told me when I asked him what's the best way to run a bronze washer knife he told me bone dry period in gym makes some of the toughest nice on the planet.

    When assembling the knife and the lever binds as you're locking it DO NOT FORCE IT you'll risk breaking the locking lever. Simply push up firmly on the pivot screw head. It should then easily lock in place. I love my Homefront and have had it apart many times to clean grit and crud out of it.

    I think it's a great looking design and knife overall. And I'm not a steel snob by any means but I do have a problem paying that price for that steel. Being field strippable it's not marketed as a edc knife but more of a police/military tool. Being marketed in that manner I'd expect them to use a steel that would hold an edge longer.

    I have a Buck 110 (for over 40-years), and a true Victorinox Tinker (about 20-years). They have been through hundreds (if not thousands) of hunts, fishing trips, backyard fiascos and more. They have been 'bathed' several times, oiled frequently, kept sharp. I have YET to have the need (at 60-years old now) to take one apart to 'clean it'. This seems like a 'gadget' approach to knife making. What is so 'vulnerable' to this knife that unlike the Buck 110v, it has to be 'disassembled' to be cleaned properly?

    I have to send mine back. The lever is almost impossible to move. I finally got the knife apart but it will not reassemble. The lever is not catching properly and the blade is very loose in the knife. From all the good reviews of this knife, I assume I happen to have a lemon. Hope they fix it right or send me a working knife. I am not bashing it. As I said, I assume I just happen to have one bad knife. I'll see. I am calling CRKT tomorrow regarding return.

    1. Being able to take it down that quickly really is not necessary. 2. That wheel will become completely jammed with dirt and gunk if it were ever used in a dirty situation, gritty water, etc. Try using the tightening wheel on a Stihl chainsaw after it's been gunked up, it won't move.

    I don't think I've come across any type of filth that's rendered my knife either inoperable, or unable to be cleaned by a quick swishing in a puddle or sink. Not sure the breakdown feature is super necessary or worthy of the price tag. I think I'd prefer my money to go toward quality materials and assembly over a kind of kichy design.
