Some of the questions I was asked in my (in-person)interview:
1.) If I had an older computer and I wanted to keep that computer but it was booting up slowly, what would you do?
    2.) What is DNS?
3.) What is ping used for?
4.) Where would you use ipconfig and what information does it show you?
    5.) What is bandwidth?
6.) What is a static ip address?
7.)How would you deal with a angry customer?
8.)What do you think would be the most challenging part of this job?
9.) Where do you see yourself in the next few years?
10.) Tell us about a time when you made a mistake on the job and how did you go about correcting that mistake?
11.) Tell us about a time when you were given negative feedback and how did you deal with it?
12.) What is one misconception that people have about you?
13.) Have you ever worked with somebody who was difficult to get along with and did you deal with that situation?
Oh and I was also asked to do a typing test at the beginning of the interview.
If there's one piece of advice I would give to anyone before their interview it's this:
Be sure to ask LOTS of questions of your own after they ask you their questions. The more interested you seem in the job the better.
And don't worry about not knowing every answer to every technical question. They want to know that you're easy to get along with, you love learning, you're tactful and know how to deal with uncomfortable situations and most importantly that you're HUMBLE. Work on your interpersonal skills first and foremost!
Nobody wants to work with a highly knowledgeable person that's arrogant and highly disagreeable.

PSA for new folks: Novice A+/N+ have a catch-22 hurdle : entry level positions requiring 2-4 years experience. The A+ is just 1/3 of the puzzle. Get the N+ is another 1/3. The final part is the most important, be an intern/volunteer at a church/school/community center for x # hours per week for several months. You need to get the name, email, business address, good phone, of that IT person you assist. That volunteer gig will be the key for your resume getting past HR madness to the recruitor. Peace.

Thanks for the questions. I can definitely confirm that 4/10 of these questions have been asked in my technical interview. I see the monitor isn’t working question is a standard one I was asked. I was also asked “what is an example of remote assistance, and what can you do with it?” And “How would you handle a customer who’s problem you’re not able to help them with?” I also can’t wait to hit my interviewer over the head with my BSOD answer lol. Anyway, some basic questions. I have another interview this week and I hope your questions will help me.

Thank you! Wish I saw this before my interview. I think I did terribly lol.
They (four technicians and a corporate manager) asked me curve ball questions like "What would you do if a penguin came through the door behind you?" and "If you were on a boat, what five things would you want to have with you and why?" I've heard people ask questions like "How do you make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich" or "If you were an animal, what would you be and why?" so be prepared to answer questions like those, it might happen.
I actually don't think I was asked any questions about "domains" or "IP addresses" in my helpdesk interview. I was just asked what my experience with computers and technology was. Tech questions I was able to answer, but there were very few of them. I have done plenty of interviews to be able to answer questions, but they definitely threw me off my usual gam with those questions. Not sure what this means, but I will be hearing back from them later this week. Fingers crossed I hear good news from them!

Thank you for these! These are some of the most important parts of IT: the helpdesk/support aspect. I really appreciate that you took the time to explain these commonly asked technical questions. One question that I've gotten quite often during interviews: Someone comes up to you/there's a ticket saying they cannot connect to the printer. However their internet/wireless connection is just fine. How do you troubleshoot this?
Just like the monitor question, it's simply answered by asking which network the user is connect to. (Usually the Guest network by auto reconnection.) I've flubbed this question and it cost me an interview despite knowing this answer.

Some questions I was asked in my interview.
    Tell me about yourself.
Why is customer service important for a company.
How important is the it IT helpdesk for a company?
What is one of your proudest moments in or outside of work?
If a users computer monitor was flickering off and on and now they are getting a bsod, what troubleshooting steps would you take?
A users home laptop connects to the internet but their work laptop is not showing an internet connection. How would you troubleshoot this situation?
Name a time when you made a mistake and how did you handle the situation and what did you learn from it?

      0. very first thing to do is restart pc,(resets drivers, gives you a good base to troubleshoot from)
      1. I would then verify the monitor is getting power, (by checking for lights, press buttons, -no lights check power cable plugged in both ends, check power outlet, switch outlet.
      2. if has power, check data cable (swap cable) if no luck
      3. cable good, check video out on pc, switch to secondary out if available, cant determine, grab a known working monitor with cable and plug into target pc, if you get picture you know the issue is not with the pc, take the black screen monitor plug into known working pc, if stays black definitely the monitor, monitor is bad replace.

If they are getting an error message, that implies that the computer can turn on so the problem is unlikely to be power related; you can discard power problems.

I've been there myself, it's not till you do a few interviews, and get a understanding of the process, that you realize it's not really as bad as it seems in the beginning, you won't be chosen every interview, its a numbers game, the more you do, the better you get at doing them, you begin to understand the interview blue print, then you start shining in interviews, and get more picks
